Who: Nick, Evie, Tegan, and Jack
What: Returning Nick to the hospital
Where: various apartments in Bellum Letale, then the hospital
When: Minutes after this
Warnings: TBD, although not many, I suspect

Jack woke up on the floor of his apartment, a bottle of rum empty beside him. The moment his hand had twisted into a metal hook, he had started for the liquor, panicked that Evie and Nicky would be right. Despite the desperate desire to chase down Pan, he had managed to waylay that murderous urge and instead, he drunk himself stupid. That was good, really, until Jack got the phone call that made his blood run cold.

Staggering to his feet, Jack was relieved to see his hand was back to normal; he was further pleased to discover the world wasn't spinning so badly. Still, he looked a wreck: his shirt untucked and half unbuttoned, his tie missing, his dress trousers wrinkled. It didn't matter. For once, he was utterly unconcerned with his appearance and he reached only for his wallet and keys before starting down the stairs to 1202.

He pounded on the door once before trying at the knob, shouting: "Evie, it's me! Open up!"

It hadn't been that long since Nick had made his phone calls, but Tegan had perched on the very edge of her bed, still smoothing her hand over Nick's hair, humming to herself a bit without realizing that it was the song her mother used to hum to her when she was sick. The repetitive motion helped lull her into a content little daze, even though she was still concerned about Nick.

The knock on the outer door of the apartment surprised her, even though she'd been expecting something of the sort since Nick had called his siblings. She didn't want to disturb Nick when he looked like he might almost be asleep again, so she eased off the bed as carefully as she could, whispering, "Stay here. I'll be right back..." soft enough not to wake him if he had, in fact, drifted off again.

She padded through the apartment on bare feet, hoping that the knock hadn't woken either of her brothers, wincing at the loud voice that called out. She peered through the peephole first, seeing two people standing there with, she supposed, at least a passing resemblance to Nick. Without undoing the chain on the door, she opened it the few inches it allowed, biting her lip for a moment as she studied them.

"Hello...?"

Great. It was a girl. Hadn't Nick learned anything about trusting strange women? Evie glared for a couple seconds and then rolled her eyes. Nick was okay as of five or ten minutes ago, so she wasn't worried. Much. "Are you planning on opening the door? Where's Nick?" She tried to see past the girl but couldn't. "Who are you?"

Jack glowered at Evie as she pushed around him, and he gave the young girl at the door an apologetic look. "Our brother Nick said he was here. He's...he needs help. We need to get him--" He didn't say the word but tried to offer a reassuring smile. "Is he still here?"

Tegan actually took a half step backwards at the girl's hostility, blinking in surprise. She was still taken aback at it when she turned her attention to the man. "He's here, yes. He's not feeling well, so he's laying down." She hesitated a moment, not especially wanting to open the door to strangers. "...I can go get him. I'd let you in, but... um. Other people are sleeping..." She eased the door shut again without waiting for an answer from them, and headed back across the apartment into her room.

She paused for a second, looking at Nick, before kneeling next to the bed and reaching out to touch his hand, whispering again, "Nick? Um. Your family is here..."

Nick cracked open his eyes, turning his head to look at Tegan. He gave her an awkward little smile. He actually had been awake for a while and had heard Evie's voice, but hadn't pulled himself up to get out of bed yet.

"Sorry about them," he apologized to Tegan on their behalf, "That's my little sister and big brother. Evie's kinda goes nuts when stuff happens to me." He pulled himself up to a sitting position, looking a little dazed for a moment. Nick stood up and let Tegan help him towards the door. He reached out to undo the chain and unlock the door, opening it up to them.

He couldn't help but roll his eyes a little at how they both looked. He told them he was fine. "Morning, Jack. Morning, Evie. Could you try to...you know, not bring down the whole building you knock?"

Evie was furious when the girl shut the door again, but the anger dissipated soon enough when it opened again to Nick. She darted forward into a hug that was perhaps a little stronger then she meant it. "Yeah, right. Gretel thought you had gotten eaten by a witch." She squeezed him a little tighter but tried to be mindful of his injuries.

"If you were where you were supposed to be, I wouldn't have to be knocking anywhere in the building," Jack snapped in response, his anxiety giving way to anger. Now that Nicky was safe -- in front of him, at least -- Jack felt confusing waves of relief and worry and frustration, even a flash of guilt, recalling the way he felt a mere six hours earlier. Nicky and Evie had been right, all their ridiculous predictions, and Jack loathed them for it.

"What happened?" He held out his hand, as if to urge Nick into the hall way, eager to get his brother away from the small, strange girl. Was she a companion from his time in the mental ward?

Nick made a little 'oof' noise when Evie grabbed him for a hug. He was surprised he didn't feel any pain, but he just chalked it up whatever Tegan was able to do the night before. "It's not my fault," Nick said indignantly, "Peter did it."

He pulled back a little and gestured to Tegan, "This is Tegan. She took care of me when I was Peter Pan. I'm pretty sure she's Wendy Darling." He turned to her as he introduced them, "This is Jack and Evie." He turned back to Evie, "We flew last night everywhere. It's how Peter got out of the hospital, which..I think I might be in trouble for..."

Tegan had been starting to try to blend into the background to give the family some space, but she raised her hand in a little wave when Nick introduced her, giving Evie and Jack a small smile. "Hello. It's nice to meet you."

A part of her wanted to keep Nick in her sight, making sure he was okay, and she wondered how much of that was just habit of looking after her brothers, and how much of it was Wendy. She knew though that she had to let him go back to his family, and the hospital if that was what he needed.

She smiled a little at the memory of flying with him, and ducked her head to hide it, knowing that the situation was more serious than that.

Evie's head was past Nicky's shoulders when he introduced his Wendy, so he couldn't see her deepening frown. The news about Teagan was the most completely unfair thing she had ever heard. He had just come back and had already had something horrible happen and now there was some stupid new girl that he would be obsessed with because their building was completely batshit and he had to. She gave him another quick squeeze and backed up, trying to hide her jealousy. After giving Teagan a terse nod of greeting but not actually saying anything, she turned back to Nick. "I'm pretty sure they're going to put you on suicide watch. And I don't even know how we're going to explain how you survived." Basically, Peter was a moron for jumping out the window and Evie was plenty pissed at him for it.

Jack winced at the Peter Pan references but he refrained from saying anything; only the tightness at his mouth and the balling of his fists gave his true feelings away.

"Did anyone see you--" He couldn't say the word, 'fly', and so he uncurled a fist and made a vague gesture. For a moment, he really wished he was drunk. Things might be easier to deal with then.

"No one is in trouble, but we need to get you back to the hospital." Practical matters soothed him; concrete actions with sensible steps and rational reasons. He flashed a smile at the young girl, polite but aloof. "Thanks for all your help with Nicky. I really appreciate it."

Nick may not have been able to see Evie's frown, but Tegan got a fairly good look at it before it was gone again. She nodded back at Evie's greeting, but could tell that there wasn't much (if any) friendliness to it. The thought of Nick being on suicide watch was startling, and she wanted to say that Peter would never be suicidal, but she knew that it didn't have much bearing on the situation, and wouldn't help at all.

The tone that Nick's brother took was annoying, as if Nick was a puppy to lead around and scold if it got off its leash. And he talked to her as if she had no place in what happened to Nick. It took her a moment to realize that she didn't, really. Not in the way that mattered; not like family. She frowned, wanting to speak up, but she knew she had to be careful around strangers, not sure which one might turn the three of them in. Instead of saying something to Jack, she just nodded and turned to Nick.

"It was nice meeting you. I hope you feel better soon." Her voice was as soft as her smile before she turned back to her apartment, closing the door behind her. The sound of the deadbolt and then the chain was audible in the hallway as she secured the door again.

Nick looked helplessly back at Tegan as she closed the door. He had begun to like her, if that was a good thing. The very vocal Peter part of him wanted to stay with her, play with her little brothers, and never leave. Especially not in to the care of a pirate, the care of Hook.

Sighing heavily, Nick turned back to his siblings and gave them an awkward shrug. "Well then, back to the hospital?"

Evie didn't so much as glance at either of her brothers as she spun around towards the stairs. If Nicky didn't want to go back to the hospital that was just fine with her. He could stay here with Tegan. She stalked down the hall ahead of them, a little more awkward than she would have liked because of the state of her feet.

For a moment, Jack considered not doing the appropriate thing. He stared at Nick, hating the clear resignation visible on his face, and he knew he was partially to blame for that. Then Evie blew past him, anger crackling off of her, and he shook his head. He couldn't start down that road, letting the two of them run wild, irresponsible. Thinking they were fairy tales.

With a sigh, Jack rubbed his face and shrugged at Nick in return. "I guess so. Do you need-- anything from the apartment?"

Nick looked after Evie and frowned deeply. He hated seeing her upset, even moreso when he knew he was the cause. It took everything he had to not run after her. Snapping his attention back to Jack, he shook his head. "No, I really should. Uh. They probably think I'm dead or missing, right? So please..talk to them? I don't know what to tell them what happened.."

"Since you jumped out a fucking window and there's no body, they'll probably believe just about anything." Evie crossed her good arm over her cast and turned around in a move that was sharp and angry. She wasn't mad at Nicky because she was never mad at Nicky, but she was still mad. She was especially mad at herself for being such a possessive bitch. A Wendy was a good thing, what with what had just happened to him. A good thing, she repeated to herself silently.
