Happy July 4th!
Who: Open to all characters in the U.S.
What: July 4th is also Captain America's birthday, celebrated with the Annual Captain America Picnic to raise money for Veterans in need.
Where: Governor's Island, NYC

On July 4th, the hottest ticket was to Governor's Island for Captain America's picnic and fireworks show to benefit the Veterans. It was a who's who of superheroes, notable state and local politicians, celebrities, and a lot of Vets who wanted to meet and greet Steve Rogers.

Governor's island had ample space with plenty of walkways, set just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the city so close nearby. For those that couldn't fly, the easiest way to reach the island was by ferry. It's a family friendly picnic, and people have arrived with children and spouses in tow.

There are plenty of tables and chairs, as well as games and eating competitions. A brightly lit stage had been set up for live entertainment. Plenty of food is being served, the standard fare of hamburgers and hot dogs, and sandwiches, with desserts and drinks galore.

Fireworks start at 9:20 PM. Expect a really big show for the star spangled man with a plan, and to celebrate Independence Day!

Ned and Peter

True to his word, Peter took off looking for Ned the second his message came through on the network. It seemed surreal that after hiding the truth of the timey-whimey universal mess from his best friend for so long, he was actually finally in the know. After the disaster of the past month, it was the kind of win he hadn't known he'd needed.

"Sorry, sorry!" Peter almost tripped over his own two feet in his search, earning a wagging finger from a passing veteran shuffling by. There was a sizable crowd here, and it wasn't exactly easy to see over the tops of taller heads in the way.

Just when he was about to text Ned again asking for more specifics on his location, the crowd ahead of him parted a little bit - and he caught a glimpse of his best friend. "Ned!" Peter sprinted over and didn't hesitate before throwing his arms around him in a hug. "Oh man. You're not a ghost!"

He hugged his friend back without hesitation. In fact, after feeling like he'd been sent through a loop or two, it was nice to see someone who wasn't his parents - or Strange. "I am so glad I'm not a ghost." Because hugs would suck if he was, not to mention trying to date or anything else.

When he pulled back, he looked his friend up and down. "You look totally the same." Though he paused at the top of Peter's head while squinting. "Are you taller? You're taller, aren't you?" Of course if either of the was going to grow, it'd be Peter. Though the thought was abandoned after a moment as he hugged his friend again even if they were surrounded by people and a double hug might be weird.

“Taller? You really think I got taller?” Peter’s face lit up and he stood up a little straighter; regardless if the growth was actually there or not, it was cool that someone thought it. And it was cooler still that Ned was the one standing in front of him at all. Peter went in for the double hug, not even wanting to let go.

"I think your hair's longer. Maybe." Or maybe it wasn't, but it was hard to judge much of anything beyond his excitement. "When did you get here?? Did Dr. Strange explain everything? I know it's a lot to take in. Everything's different. I got here after the snap more than a year ago. I mean, I was in space one minute and then here the next and..."

He trailed off with the rambling, not wanting to overwhelm Ned too much. "Dude, I missed you so much. You were here but I couldn't tell you anything. And I really, really suck at keeping things from you."

Ned's hand went up to his hair when Peter mentioned his hair. Was it longer? Did he need a hair cut? Did he look cooler this way? The thoughts went to the wayside as his friend asked all the other questions.

"I know why you had to do it though. I mean, Strange is like, probably really scary? But I'm glad I know now though. I bet you have a lot to catch me up on. Which should totally be done with those hotdogs because they look amazing."

He nodded though. "Doctor Strange did find me though. I showed up at school in my pajamas. How embarrassing!"

"Better than showing up in nothing, right? Pajamas at school should definitely be normalized anyway. You're like...a trend-setter." Peter led them a little bit away from the crowd and closer to the hotdog stand line, rummaging for a few crumpled bills in his pocket. He ended up ordering four hot dogs for them to share, balancing the basket they were served in and some drinks thanks to his spidey abilities.

There were a few picnic tables off to the side, a good place to settle with their food without anyone listening in on what probably seemed like a very odd conversation out of context. "What's the last thing you remember? About the other universe?"

It was definitely better than being naked. Ned had had those nightmares before and no thank you. If he had found out it was real and naked, he might never be able to show his face at school again. He'd have to go online or graduate early or something. Maybe get a full body transplant and change his name.

He followed his friend and then was sitting, reaching for a hot dog and biting into it when the question came. Ned started to talk, but the words were undecipherable so he stopped, chewed, and then swallowed first before starting again. "We came home from Europe and you were dating MJ now and then there was this viral video that said you killed Mysterio and outed you to everyone."

He paused and then scrunched his nose.

"...Yeah. Yeah, that sounds about right." Peter made a similar face to Ned's, because those memories weren't the greatest. "I've been here since the snap, but all of that I remembered in these weird dreams? So it was me but it wasn't me. Just normal multi-verse things, I guess." Which, ordinarily would have been the strangest and coolest thing ever, but he was always afraid of being shuffled back to that universe - or more of those events being mirrored in this one.

"That hasn't happened here or anything," Peter quickly assured Ned, but them being able to eat hot dogs together in public probably confirmed that. "And Tony's alive, Cap isn't old, Ms. Romanoff's alive too. But me and MJ, we’re still, y’know-“ He gestured with his hand, blushing a little. “Dating. She’s been here for a while too.”

Despite how good the food was and how amazing it was to have his best friend here, he frowned, another concern poking at him. "But you were okay? In the other universe? The last thing I saw was the video. Not anything that happened after."

It was nice to hear that people were still alive for sure. He had even talked to Mr. Stark which was basically amazing in so many ways. It was nice to know that other people had survived too. No one deserved to die. What was nice, too, was that Peter was still with MJ. Peter had basically been pining after her for so long now, it felt, that Ned would have been super surprised to find out they didn't try to make things work.

"Yeah. I mean, I was at home when I saw the video. I tried to phone you, but I couldn't, and then I basically decided I'd try to find out if I could hack into the video to find proof it's fake when I ended up here?"

While Peter wished Ned was from a future point where he could confirm that everything turned out all right in the end, not having any super horrible news to report from the other universe was better than the alternative, at least. "Thanks, man. If anyone could help me out there, it's you." As daunting as the whole situation was (and how, honestly, he was probably pretty screwed), he had faith in his friends.

"When we finish these hot dogs, we should go find MJ. She's around here somewhere, and we could catch you up on all the stuff you've missed." Between the godzilla-esque creatures roaming New York and his newer stupider decisions with Loki, there were a lot of stories to tell. "I'm so glad you're here." Peter grinned, reaching his hand out to start their usual handshake. "Freaky mutli-verses don't feel right without you."
