Tony hovered the suit down to a landing, right on the corner of West 82nd and Columbus Avenue, next to the Natural History Museum. It looked like people had gotten the hint and many were running to hide inside the large building. Police cars were racing south to clear the way for a twister that looked like it was in hot pursuit.

Tony considered this a local issue, not a world-wide one, and not a world-wide threat. Sure, tornadoes with sharks dropping down out of dark holes in the sky might not be normal but it was in a localized area. Mostly. So it wasn't a big deal in that capacity, but it was when it concerned some of these things might land on a cop car, bite a fireman, or kill a civilian. Wow. The messes he found himself in sometimes.

"Ready to test out the upgrades?"

"I'm always ready when you are," was his AI's vaguely flirty response. "As requested, the feed of the upgraded targeting system is now being uploaded and recorded to your private server, so you can watch the footage later."

"Sexy!" Tony crouched down and then took off, directly toward an incoming tornado. "Let's try to save the people holing up in there, before it becomes a nom-seum. Ha ha, did you get that? I'm kraken myself up."

The recent algorithms should let him simultaneously maximize damage with minimal structural damage taken into account, and rule out as many civilian casualties as possible. The new HUD display lit up like Christmas morning. Tony was already having to throttle the repulsors and twist and sway to counter the excess wind shear that was sending mailboxes, litter, and tree limbs flying at him. A water tower at the top of a building teetered and toppled over, the winds blowing the water off and away to one side. This was going to be a mess.

It probably wasn't the greatest idea ever for a man in a metal suit to go flying into a tornado like he meant to punch through the eye of it, but it wasn't like that ever stopped him before. He was thinking that at the precise moment a shark trying to bite onto his leg, and found himself almost missing as he blasted a second shark that was off to one side. It landed against a lamp post instead of the glass doors of a nearby store, where people were huddled together inside for shelter. A few of them were filming, so he gave a wave and tried not to ignore that the post was bent over like it was made of wet clay instead of metal. The HUD finished flashing red to let him know that the end result hadn't matched the expected trajectory. Obviously.

"My bad. Let's log that for Damage Control. If anything else goes wrong, let minnow?"

"You should dolphinitely scale back on the fish puns," Friday suggested.

"Niiiiice."

The winds shifted and the tornado started to sidewinder down a side street, taking off the corner of a building and pelting the entire area with loose bricks. When he finished avoiding being hit by the barrage, he looked up and found three huge grey sharks flying out the back of that tornado. Their mouths were wide open to reveal rows of teeth, and they were shooting through the air like missiles aimed right for him.

With a smirk, he shot back.

In Greenwich Village, Stephen Strange was trying his best to open portals, to send each and every shark flying out of a tornado back out to the Atlantic. It was the third tornado he had encountered in this area, so far. It was taxing to keep up, to throw up shields at the last second and try to rope a few sharks by the tails with conjured eldritch whips.

The temptation to open the Eye of Agamotto was non-existent. The risk that it could destabilize the timeline further kept him from doing it. Not even when he saw someone lose an arm to a shark was he compelled. He wouldn't, not even by a single minute. Not even by a matter of seconds. Instead, he helped to stop the bleeding with a tourniquet and a nearby EMT crew swooped in and took over. When the gave a second glance at his attire, he gave them the standard excuse: Comic con.

They didn't look like they believed that one bit, so he shrugged at them. Then the cape shrugged, and he gave his second most used excuse: Wind.

After they left, he took advantage of the chaos to keep out of sight as much as possible, using the cloak to lift him up to rooftops and down into the meager shelter of alleyways, finding the best vantage points to use spells to assist those in the area. He should have known this would happen. It had weighed heavily on him for days now, a creeping dread, the sense that a great disturbance was brewing. It was an unknown threat that was hanging over all of their heads like the sword of Damocles, poised to drop down on the city at any second. If only he had known exactly what it was and when it would hit, people could have been warned or evacuated.

But who would listen? A lot of people now knew that aliens existed, but the existence of magic was a whole other concept that seemed harder to grasp. The scientific possibility of life beyond their world always existed, but belief in the fantastic and intangible did not. He knew that from personal experience. His mind had utterly resisted the concept, until he was shown otherwise.

A whole other thing entirely was believing that there would actually be sharks in tornadoes. For the vast majority, it was unbelievable too. Not until they saw it, first hand. Some were taking it better than others. Case in point, he didn't understand Stark's fascination with it. Fine, he didn't understand Stark on the best of days. But Iron Man was helping out, so beggars couldn't really be choosers in this sort of situation.

The cloak levitated him out of the way of a shark which missed an already open portal as it thrashed sideways in midair. A bent bicycle flew into it instead, before the portal closed up in a shower of sparks. When the shark landed and stopped thrashing, he opened another portal beneath it and the shark almost comically dropped out of sight, the portal closing up and leaving a street strewn with mundane fare, with blowing newspapers and other small debris. After regarding a tornado that was nearing a nearby apartment building, he sighed as though it was trying his patience and simply waved one hand to put it into the mirror dimension. That one could wreak havoc in there for a while, until it either weakened and died out. Or so he hoped. He might have to see how far it traveled later on and deal with it then, when he remembered to.

Now all he had to worry about was if he was seriously unbalancing the ecosystem by putting a hundred and fifty-eight great white sharks into the ocean, only a few miles away from the Florida Keys.

Thor was in the center of the city when the strange phenomenon began. He could tell instantly that it was not a normal weather pattern. He was attuned to the air and electrical currents in the atmosphere, and this was not normal. As the crowd began to scatter, a smaller funnel broke away from a larger one barreling down 42nd Street. He was able to summon a counter-wind strong enough to unravel the smaller funnel, and as it dissipated, several large sharks dropped to the street, flailing and snapping wildly.

On the ground, Thor pulled one man out of the way after he'd been pinned by debris and was about to become shark food. One shark had not survived, and had been impaled on a lamp post. He did not know about the breed or how long they could survive out of their element, but he knew they were meant to be in water.

One by one, he grabbed each remaining shark by the tail and took off on the tumultuous air currents until he could toss them into the river. He knew he'd only stopped one small funnel, however, and taking the time to transport sharks one at a time was not reasonable. He needed to find a more efficient way. Not for the first time, he wished for Mjolnir back again. His abilities were enhanced still further now, but his control of them was not as precise as it had been with his beloved hammer.

It was then that he spotted the Valkyrie and headed straight for her.

Valkyrie had seen tornados before, even other kinds of 'extreme weather' but none, in any planet she had been to, had included wildlife in them. Or at least this volume of it, straight out of the ocean somehow, according to Thor. This made absolutely no sense, not that Valkyrie was a scholar of weather patterns or wildlife behavior. Given the reactions around her, this was just plain not normal.

She had been screaming at random citizens to go inside, many of whom did not live here, but she didn't care. Inside seemed better than outside for now, given they were away from glass entrances, windows and skylights. She had shielded a child before pushing her into the closest building with one hand while pushing away a shark with the other. Her arm hurt a little.

Her sword was out now, and she was actively trying to stab and throw the sharks away from people while still screaming at them to run inside and try to board the windows. Just as she cut the fin off of a shark and sent it sliding through the pavement, Thor ran her way.

"These people know you, right? Tell them to stop filming and go inside!" She screamed, though she looked as thankful as she felt to have him join her.

Thor was 90% certain that no one was going to heed him amidst the chaos, but the Valkyrie had asked it of him, and so he would try. He reached a hand up and summoned a bolt of lightning down to the ground, cracking open the street right in front of the Midgardian onlookers.

"People of Earth! Get inside! Stay away from windows! Save yourselves and your children!" he bellowed in his most commanding tone. But there were bigger fish to fry, so to speak, and he turned back to her. "I believe you wished to ride one?" he asked, smirking.

Sword at the ready, Valkyrie protected Thor from the sharks that flew in their direction while he attempted to make the humans save themselves. She turned as her sword sliced through a shark, and the blood flew at her face before she, too, addressed the humans.

"Heed Thor, Lor- God of Thunder! He's protected you before!" Another shark flipped over and away from the people. "Get as low as you can, do not leave before this is done. Lock the doors, board the windows! Please!"

Finally, as people seemed to heed their hero (and take pictures of him and some of her before running) Valkyrie turned to Thor. "I did. I do! I've never seen animals in such a storm but I've seen these storms. All we can do until it passes is try to save people and make these sharks not hit anyone or anything important. If I ride one and the storm it's carried on, perhaps I can try something." Really she just wanted to ride both wind and beast, but it wasn't a good look to say so. If she could she would even have ridden Hela's beastly wolf Fenris. Maybe she just really missed her winged horse. Val put her free hand on his arm. "No thunder on this one, just wind and fish, but you're still my vote for most likely to get this uncontrollable destruction under control."

Thor grinned at her, enjoying her confidence in him. He sank down onto one knee and cupped his hands together atop the other knee. "Step up. One comes this way. I had an idea, as well. I will loft you up upon a shark, and then I will try to push the funnel towards the river."

He wasn't sure it would work, but if he could steer one wind tunnel over the water and then set an opposing current to unwind it... he would need only do that many more times. But sharks safely in the water where they belonged were preferable to sharks flying at their heads.

"Ready?"

Valkyrie looked down at Thor as he knelt down, then smiled in approval as he explained his idea. "Alright... I'm intrigued. Tell me how I can help while atop a shark."

She stepped onto Thor's hands, keeping her balance by steadying her hand on his shoulder. Looking down, Val grinned excitedly, then looked over to where she would be thrown and sheathed her sword.

"Ready!"

Honestly, he'd assumed she wanted to ride the beast because it would be fun. "Hold on tight and don't get eaten?" he said. "You will see from your vantage point where the next is coming from," he added, because that would be useful. "We can pick them off one by one. When it reaches the river, leap to the closest tall building. It will save you swimming back among the beasts in their own habitat," he said.

Yes, that seemed like a solid plan. "Right. Hang on," he said as the tornado closed in. He pushed off, leaping high into the hair and tossing her right towards one of the fearsome beasts. His aim was impeccable, as he saw her land upon its back, and thankfully not in its mouth.

Once he had her successfully placed, Thor stood at the base of the funnel and summoned another wind to force it down the street towards the west. Slowly, the swirling miasma started to turn, spinning down towards the Hudson.

"CAN YOU SEE ANYTHING??" he called up.

Valkyrie couldn't help an amused cackle at Thor's advice. What a kingly thing to say, really. She wasn't sure she could really identify where the tornado was coming from any more than cardinal points or 'left/right' but she would certainly try. It was a stupid plan, the leaping, but if anyone was up for it, it was Val. Like hell she'd be eaten by a Midgardian fish.

When he said to hang on she did, nails digging into his shoulder armor as Val turned and flexed her knees slightly in order to spring towards where Thor would throw her. "Alright, make me fly, Majesty."

And he did. Valkyrie couldn't help release a whoop of sheer excitement as she sped towards the shark, grabbing onto its fin with one hand, then the other, and then hopping one leg over its form. Finally, she was riding the shark who rode the tornado, and she grinned over at Thor. Anyone else would have been too confused and frazzled to see, but Val had flown before, ridden flying animals before too, and wind was a common thing in those situations. She looked around, grimacing. She rode the tornado towards East River between two bridges, though she had one on her left and two on her right. She pointed to the right.

"IT'S COMING FROM NEAR THE LITTLE ISLAND OVER AFTER THE TWO BRIDGES." She pushed hair off of her face. "THE PEOPLE ON THE BRIDGES ARE GETTING DEMOLISHED!"

Thor forced the funnel further towards the river. "JUMP OFF NOW," he called up. They could find her another shark to ride on the bridges where they were most needed. When he saw the Valkyrie jump safely off the shark and onto a rooftop, he called up a counter-clockwise wind to push into the cyclone. It dissolved over the water, dumping the sharks in as it dissipated.

He climbed quickly to the top of the building and strode across to where she stood. "Shall we head for the bridges?" he suggested. Now that he knew how to level each funnel, they just had to try to protect the bystanders from the sharks. The bridges were surely more dangerous than any other spot in the city. If they could clear them, they could be shut down until they could guarantee everyone's safety.

The dismount was going to be one of the trickiest in Valkyrie's life, but she was nothing if not confident enough to put her worries behind her and try. Once the shark was right above a building Valkyrie climbed onto its back, holding onto the top fin, and launched forward, diving into a somersault in order to land mostly on her feet.

She didn't, as evidenced by the scuff marks on her left cheek and both hands. But it could have been worse. Valkyrie stood up and watched Thor push the cyclone into the water, not looking away until he was standing next to her.

"Yeah. There's a lot of cars, a lot of debris, a lot of people. It'll be a mess. It probably already is." She backhanded his chest. "C'mon. How're we getting there?"

Stalking down the street in the guise of a mundane Midgardian, Loki was searching for secret paths from weaknesses in the veil of this world and others. There was one close by that he could try to use to skip past countless city blocks, to make his way to where Thor and the Valkyrie were in battle. Left in his wake were many items that were formerly sharks, littering the street: a broken harp, several smashed tables, tangles of tumbled chairs, broken vases, smashed platters. There was also one large gutted shark in the middle of an intersection, its entrails splattered all over pavement and a couple crashed cars. That part had been satisfying.

Another tornado turned a street corner ahead, with yet more sharks within. He raised an eyebrow as though considering what to turn those things into, and flicked the fingers of one hand toward the tempestuous whirlwind. Every creature inside burst into shreds which became a flurry of dead leaves, showering the area as it passed with shades of rust and faded gold.

The wind itself was more of an annoyance than the sharks, pelting him with objects torn from the very buildings around them. As he would with bullets, he threw up a shield as pieces of roofing tile rained down, and sedately walked into a coffee shop. This was the area where that thinnest of tears could be used. He was about to head for it, but stopped short. Two young female employees were huddled together behind the counter, over which Loki leaned onto give them an inquisitive look.

"Ah. I would very much like one large iced mocha with extra whipped cream and a dusting of chocolate powder. Please."

"Sharks and tornadoes," blurted one of the terrified girls, with eyes as big as saucers. Despite any fears, she had one hand held up and her phone was filming the front windows. "Stuck out here. Some guy ran into the bathroom. Slammed the door."

"It seems safe enough and, by some miracle, you have power to operate your machines." He smirked and raised his eyebrows like 'Well?' "Must I make my own?"

"Dude, you're serious?"

"Quite."

Loki stood unnervingly still while waiting for his beverage, pausing only to pull at the collar of his armor and peek down to make sure the sleeping Darcy dormouse was still nestled in place near his collarbone. There was tiny snoring. Good. He paid for his mocha and walked to the restroom door. He pulled until the lock broke and the man was trying to hold onto the doorknob to keep it shut. Door now wide open, Loki leaned down until they were eye to eye and said in a murderously cold voice, "Get out, or prepare to suffer the very bloody consequences."

The man ran out without a single debate. A quick spell - blocked from view by his body - mended the lock. Those issues taken care of, he turned to tell the two terrified employees, "Wait but a moment, and then you may take shelter herein."

They mutely nodded in perfect unison.

He entered and closed the door behind him, reaching out with his magic and willing himself to go wherever his brother was. This was not going to be an easy path. Prying it open hit him as though he had leaped from a great height, his vision nothing more than thick grey fog rushing by streaked with wisps of iridescent mist. It was increasingly difficult to move through, and Loki was almost certain this passage was going to collapse at any second. By the time he reached the other side and emerged back into tangible existence again, he was staggering a few steps before leaning back against a nearby wall for support.

A quick check proved that Darcy was still unscathed. Ahead, he could see his brother and the Valkyrie already taking advantage of the winds and sharks. A moment of glorious battle for the Revengers, to proudly commemorate on the walls of their home. For as long as they were living there, at least.

Loki took out his phone and held it up with one hand, sucking on the straw of the iced mocha as he idly snapped photos from the sidelines.

It was a little bit funny to be the alien teaching the terran about the subway system and yet here Gamora was, walking Peter through it while they were out on a purposeless outing that was absolutely not romantic in nature despite the lovely views and the closeness - both emotional and physical, since the mass of people in each subway car tended to make Gamora mash into Peter whether she liked to or not.

Once they emerged near what Peter had said had always been the go-to place for 'musical theater'; a kind of fiction that included both dancing and singing, only the singing served the story being told and pushed the narrative forward, things had changed. Gamora's hair whipped around and onto her face, she felt about as wet as if tangentially caught in a garden hose crossfire and there were large grey animals flying around.

She didn't know what they were, but when one came their way Gamora pushed Peter and launched herself out of the way immediately after only to see it smash the subway sign and a couple of people as its long, heavy body continued on its trajectory. Gamora pulled Peter into a building's door alcove, though it didn't offer much cover.

"What do we do?!" She asked him, but the answer seemed evident. These things were killing people, as was the odd weather. As Gamora prepared to help, she spotted someone familiar, and pointed. "Look! It's Loki. What's he...doing?"

This was not a date. It was two people with a lot of unspoken moments between them going out and trying to have a good time. Gamora was showing him how the subway station worked, and Peter was taking her to see a Broadway show. It was not a date. But maybe it was, okay maybe but they couldn't call it that because that made it real and that put some sort of label on it and that wasn't what they were trying to do right now while they were still trying to sort this whole being on Earth thing out.

Subways were weird. Navigating them was even weirder so he was totally letting Gamora run the show. At least, until they came out and suddenly were whipped by window, rain, and very nearly were fishslapped by flying sharks. "What the fu--" Before he could finish his question, Peter found himself being shoved and pulled out of the way of a snapping shark's mouth and into an alcove for temporary safety. Very temporary.

"Uh," he stared in the direction of where Loki, who he recognized from Thor's party, standing there drinking something and watching. "No idea, but definitely not helping." It looked like there were others moving around, trying to gain leverage on the situation. "Look, I know this brand of crazy might seem like a normal day for us wherever we end up but on Terra this is so not normal. First, we need to see what he's doing, then we gotta help get this under control."

Loki took care of two entire tornadoes and helping out two baristas already, thank you very much. So what if he left a mess behind? It was infinitely more neat than shark carcasses everywhere.

Sharks went ignored. Ever fickle, his mood had shifted from helping to not feeling inclined to help at all. He looked exhausted as he sucked down the last of his iced mocha through a straw, finally discarding the cup into thin air, where it landed a mile away, in someone's passenger seat. They could deal with it for him. He took a couple more photos before Vakyrie and Thor were no longer within range of the camera's zoom function, and made no move to catch up again. While this dimension had plenty of little tears he could use for secret paths to move to and fro, he was in no hurry to try that again. Not for today, at least. Thor and Valkyrie were more than capable of fending for themselves.

He put his phone away and caught sight of Gamora and her paramour, giving them both a lopsided smirk. Pushing himself away from the wall, he sauntered toward them with the wind tangling his already mussed hair, throwing a couple knives into a shark that was flying past him. It might not stop it, but he didn't exactly turn around to check if it killed it, either.

"Hi," he said, the smirk turning into a sly smile. "We do keep running into one another. If only the circumstances were as festive as when last we met."

Standing there looking from side to side, Gamora could tell before Peter did that this was absolutely not normal. People were panicking, screaming, running...and some were filming or taking pictures. Like Loki, apparently, when she looked closer.

"Well obviously, Peter, I wasn't gonna stand here and wait for this to pass! But we need a plan, because you can shoot and I can slice but these things will keep coming and crashing onto people anyway!" Gamora admonished, grabbing onto his forearm to keep either of them from losing their flimsy balance. She didn't return Loki's smirk, still very confused and caught by surprise by this weird event. What Loki was doing seemed to be the very least he could be doing. That didn't put her in a good mood either.

"Uh, hi. Yeah, too bad about the flying giant fish killing people." She looked at Peter, then back at Loki. "We're going to try and help these people, at least get them out of harm's way. Are you... in?"

"Ah." Loki looked skyward for a moment, as though contemplating the situation. He looked back at Peter and Gamora. "I have helped clean up an avenue already, and have expended much energy in doing so. However, should you be in need, I suppose that I can offer further aid to you both. Be it by shielding you, or otherwise keeping you from harm while you dispose of these beasts."

Of course, what drained a fair amount of energy was the shortcut he took, but he wasn't volunteering that information. He could use some more sugary beverages, but this street corner didn't have a Starbucks. Maybe there was one on the next block over. If they were open.

"Lead on," he said, gesturing to the street, "and I shall do what I can."

Given the plethora of weird shit he'd seen over the course of his life since being abducted from Earth as a child, the sharknadoes were pretty out there. Not the weirdest, but they still ranked pretty high on the weird-shit-o-meter on Peter's scale. The real question he had on his mind, was what caused it? Or who? He was definitely more the type to act first and think later, but he couldn't help but wonder if this was just some bizarre phenomenon or if there was more to it than that. He supposed he didn't need an answer now. Taking down the sharks before they killed anyone else was more the priority.

"On it," he said when told to lead on. "Not sure if there's actually an effective way to do this. A start from the bottom and work up or just.. aim and hope but this is probably going to be more trial and error than anything." Since they were still in a very unstable situation and didn't know what to expect, both he and Gamora were always armed when they left the hotel. Even on their not!date he hadn't left without his quad blasters and enhancements on his boots to allow him to fly. He tapped his heels on the ground and kicked off upward.

"I realize the reference is lost on you," he called down to Gamora and Loki. "But this is like some weird Jaws meets Star Wars battle and I'm kinda digging it." He aimed his blasters at a shark as it passed by and shot it out of the tornado.

"Gamora!" He called down to her; not that she wouldn't see a falling shark, but still.
