New sitescheme

Previous Entry Add to Memories Tell a Friend Next Entry
With 52.4% of the vote. Worksafe (sidebar) is the defacto winner and is now the default scheme on InsaneJournal. This really brings IJ into the future. In addition we have removed access to most of the older schemes. We have left 'New Tweak' for those of you who liked the previous scheme, and 'Lynx' for you who prefer the lightweight schemes.

We are also working hard on a new way to display the ads so they will no longer be a hindrance to the site schemes. We hope to have this rolled out by the weekend.

Once agian, I want to send a warm round of applause to the [info]ij_siteschemes crew and [info]branchandroot for all of their help in getting these new schemes up and running!

Edit: We pushed out some new stylesheets. This should help some of you with the font size issues.
  • Thank you for trying to figure something out with the ads. I don't mind the new layout, but switched back to the original because the ads push my comments so far away from the original entry in the newer version.
  • i don't think the new scheme does a really good job of detecting the font, because on the old layout my font in my userinfo was normal, and on the new one it's gigantic... see here..
  • Is there any way that the older schemes can be brought back? The sidebar schemes go really really screwy on my settings, and the dropdowns are horrible for me because I can't right-click and tab. I don't know if I'm the only one with those kinds of problems or what, but the site is seriously almost inaccessible to me at the moment.
  • Looks sharp.

Seeing it in 1680x1050 resolution on a 22" LCD widescreen:

Yup, looks sharp. I highly approve. Congratulations to the designers and implementers.

  • i'm glad that y'all are working on something to deal with the ad problem, because i'd really like to be able to use the sidebar layout but right now the ads just completely mess it up
  • Should the site scheme change have suddenly made all the text on default-scheme journal and comment-pages (as opposed to ones that stay in the layout like this page here) all really huge? Is there a way to change the size at which text is presented on those pages and those pages specifically? I was just about to use the lazy-man's browser options to do that, but then that made the text on my main page illegible, as apparently that's remained the same font it's always been.

Aside from that, the new site scheme actually looks pretty good. I'm glad to see IJ moving into the realm of professionalism, aesthetically.
  • Feedback from my online friends - the banner ad should be default right hand side, not left next to the menus, and possibly drop the font size by 1. I like it though. :) I was already using it on several of my journals.
  • Is it possible for the font itself to be made smaller in the scheme? It might just be my laptop or something, but everything looks rather squashed in. Though it could just be the position of the ads. Hm. Either way - good job!
  • Thanks for keeping the old scheme around, I really don't like this one.
  • Wow, the font size is HUGE. Can it be resized? I like the scheme, but everything seems so...Bright. Maybe it's my laptop but the fonts have also seemed to have gotten bigger.
  • Okay. the text...

The ONLY thing I hate about this site scheme, is that its humungo big.

Why can't the default text be a nice, norma 10 or 11 pt font?
  • thank you for leaving the old one, i much prefer it.
  • Everything looks fine to me!
  • Thank you so much for not getting rid of the "New Tweak" layout. I like it so much better than the new default, so I am extremely glad it is still an option. Please never get rid of it XD;
  • This saves me so much time switching journals to the more GJ-esqur site scheme. Thanks, Squeaky!
  • Thank you SO much for leaving New Tweak for those of us who liked the old scheme. I don't mind the new ones at all, but the font is SO big, it's hard to see everything that's on my screen, especially when I was commenting friends' entries and having to scroll so far for the comment box.
  • Lovely!

I was using worksafe sidebar while it was still in beta. I'm glad its the default now, it looks amazing! Thanks
  • Thank you for keeping the old scheme as an option because I really do not like this one. I like the idea of a sidebar layout, I definitely prefer that idea to the "new tweak" layout; however, this is just WAY too bulky. And it's not just the fonts that are too big. The sidebar is just too wide in general. When you compare it to sites like Livejournal's sidebar scheme (which i still prefer to use) the sidebar is almost twice as wide. I tabbed back and forth between the two and was amazed at how much unnecessary space the worksafe one takes up.
  • I've got to say I am actually quite disappointed in the change. Aside from the font size (which really is a problem), and that the style is a bit amateur looking, when I attempt to change back to the "New Tweak" style because this one just doesn't work in so many ways, the settings will not stick. Randomly it will change back to the new default style, and when I go back to the site option page, it will say "New Tweak" is already selected.
  • awesome! :-)

i had no idea about the change (i've been off the net a bit lately) but signing in today and seeing the changes were a very happy surprise :-)

    thanks to everyone!
  • I don't know if it helps to have a visual at all, but when I logged in (before I changed the scheme back to New Tweak), the page looked like this. Any page that had an image on it, the space would stretch to just accommodate the image, but without an image all of the pages (including comment pages) were squished way over on the side like that.
  • woo!
  • Uh, I understand that people voted but the font is HUGE. It's very annoying. Can you at least make the font smaller?
  • Looks great to me, thanks!
  • I am not liking this font situation. :[ For some reason, mine changed to arial and now it's not changing to anything else when I go to my firefox options. But I don't want to change it either because last time I had to decrease my default font size by two notches and then it would make other sites too small. Honestly, I think the majority of us were fine with the font size of verdana before. The size in comments and stuff was perfect. It's like that with livejournal and it was like that with GJ.

As for the ads, I highly suggest that if you have firefox, go get the "adblock plus." It's amazing and I get no ads when I come to IJ!
