New sitescheme

Previous Entry Add to Memories Tell a Friend Next Entry
With 52.4% of the vote. Worksafe (sidebar) is the defacto winner and is now the default scheme on InsaneJournal. This really brings IJ into the future. In addition we have removed access to most of the older schemes. We have left 'New Tweak' for those of you who liked the previous scheme, and 'Lynx' for you who prefer the lightweight schemes.

We are also working hard on a new way to display the ads so they will no longer be a hindrance to the site schemes. We hope to have this rolled out by the weekend.

Once agian, I want to send a warm round of applause to the [info]ij_siteschemes crew and [info]branchandroot for all of their help in getting these new schemes up and running!

Edit: We pushed out some new stylesheets. This should help some of you with the font size issues.
  • Kudos, you guys! It's looking great on Firefox! The new default color scheme is easy on the eyes and I'm loving the sidebar!
  • Squeeky - sorry for the off comment, but I got a completely blank email from: "InsaneJournal Comment" <lj_dontreply@insanejournal.com>

Is something wrong with email notifications?
  • I like the new sceme with ONE exception:
The actual entries, if you have a table or a centered list or anything in fact, once it goes past the banner ad it shifts further to the left, disrupting everything.
    It's driving me crazy.
  • While I love the new site scheme, there is something I think you should consider working on the next time you update/mess with your code: icon previews as an option. The most frustrating part of commenting or RPing on IJ for me is that, unlike GJ before it, we can't preview our icons when we select them from the list while posting a comment. The BROWSE thing often doesn't work on my browser, and doing the Picture to use takes so much longer than just cycling through my icons when they're all there in front of me. Consider it? Thank you!

  • I think I'm the only person w/out font issues! I feel so blessed:) Am loving this, thank you.
  • Why is it every time I close firefox my viewing options seems to reset? Every time I come back to IJ after re-opening FF it's back to the new default scheme even though I keep setting it back to New Tweak.
  • yay! the new one is my favorite. i've been using it from the beginning too. i dont seem to have a problem with ads because i have all ads blocked in my browser, so i cant really comment on that, but it's lookin' good for me :D
  • So, I don't know if this has been asked (probably) but is there a way to keep the site scheme from changing every time I close my browser? It's not the end of the world to click on View Options, but it's kind of irritating.
  • the whole ad on the left is really difficult
  • Now if some of us are using some of the styles that you got rid of, will we still be able to use them? For example, I'm using the Hand one. Will I still be able to use that, if that one was one of the ones that you got rid of?
  • what happened to bugs being fixed? since that last post, I think we've all been getting fairly frequent time outs and page errors, with no word from you about anything but selling permanent accounts and the new site schemes.
  • Uh have you to tally lost my Abuse report? I filed it June 13th, and haven't gotten a word yes OR no. Can you all at least give me an update? I mean seriously. JUNE 13th! In case you HAVE lost it, it is request #2475.
  • Is it feasible to allow users to specify font size within the InsaneJournal options? Adjusting my default browser font drastically changes the way I see Google and other pages.
  • Actually scratch what I said, I just realised I'm on a different computer so that's why the font was small.

I don't understand why IJ has to use the browser default, most websites actually HAVE a stylesheet and it's never been a problem, so why is it suddenly a problem for IJ? I'd rather the site have a consistent layout than it being different for every person because of their settings, and it's bad business to just say "change your browser's font size!!" just for IJ and then having to change it back when using google or whatever. Why can't there just be one font style and size used for this place?

You said before it was for personal reasons to have it like this but you never actually went into it and I don't think it's fair to us paying users (yes, I've bought permanent accounts and such) to be told "change YOUR settings if YOU don't like it" because this font size is not even standard.

I mean I'm not saying have it at 8pt but LiveJournal has Verdana set at a reasonable size I don't see why it's being made into such a big deal to do that here.
  • This doesn't have anything to do with this, but I just wanted to point out that on the faq page whenever I click a link, it doesn't take me anywhere else but keeps me on the main faq page.
  • I'm not sure if this applies to everyone, or just me, but today the update page has either been extremely slow (7 or 8 minutes) or it times out and gives me an error page. Any news on why?
  • I'm having problems with using the browser default font too, if I change it everything else goes all wonky. I tried Verdana with a smaller font size and the profile layout (in my other journal) became unreadable and so did google and my email account along with other sites.

Also, I paid for a self-committed account a week ago, it didn't upgrade, nor has anything happened since I opened the support request. I'm still on a free account.
  • I didn't see the answer to this specifically in the FAQs so I figured I'd ask here:

If I rename a journal to a journal with a paid account, will the paid account transfer over?
  • I know you've got a hell of a workload on your hands as it is, but I've got to be honest... I'm thinking the journal site scheme issue should have been the last priority when there are other bugs on the site that have worsened since the change. All of this focus is being paid to what is essentially an aesthetic change when there are still errors coming up for people who try to join closed communities, forcing them to backtrack and try again. I've lost threads of literally thousands of comments from both my main journal (this one) and one of my roleplay journals. I know there are multiple people who have lost their threads as well. Even last night, my friend tried commenting to me and the comment showed up for her, but by the time I got to it? It had mysteriously vanished. This isn't the first time for us and I've been hearing about it happening with many people. I don't care about being able to see my icons in order to choose them, it's as simple as keeping a secondary window open with my icons pre-loaded so that I can glance and choose. I don't care how the site looks when I load it, so long as it's functional and I can get to everything I need. I don't care about fonts, styles, icons, blah blah blah. I care about a service that I paid for that's being disrupted all over the place and making the actual experience of using InsaneJournal more aggravating than it needs to be. Notifications seem to pick and choose when they'd like to work, comments both new and old are making disappearing acts or magically posting echoes two and three times over so that their poster has to delete the extra, the site is continually functioning more and more slowly, to the point where all I can get it to do is load a completely blank white page, PMs I send aren't always received and PMs sent to me aren't always delivered. I've had my custom style that I made for this journal disappear four times on its own and overrides seem to like to go hang out with those crazy migrating comments. Sometimes I have to refresh my friends page four or five times before it gets away from a blank page and actually shows me anything. I've even had issues with logging in, where I know I've typed my UN and PW right, but it will decide to tell me that either my PW is invalid, or my UN doesn't exist. I love all the hard work and effort you obviously put into keeping this place running, but with such a serious list of issues that have yet to be addressed/resolved, why are we creating new circumstances and a new workload for you by way of ironing out the new glitches with a site layout? I honestly don't get it. When are the real issues going to be dealt with?
  • Like users above, I too have had a VERY SERIOUS Abuse ticket in which I was personally threatened that has not been responded to. I filed this report on APRIL TENTH and... nothing. I'm seriously upset about this and am considering renewing my paid account on LiveJournal and giving up here. PLEASE address this because this is an issue of my PERSONAL SAFETY here! It has been over three months!
  • I approve of the new site scheme!

I've noticed a new error, however; it's making random icons that have transparency borders (nothing fancy; a 1 pixel border in .GIF) very blurry and.. no longer transparent. As if the icon was somehow resized from 100x100 to 96x90. =|
  • Icons.

I don't know if it's my computer or what but when I view my icons sometimes, they look squashed, are noticeably smaller and I have to highlight them to get them back to how they're supposed to look.
  • am i the only one who the "browse" feature for icons when commenting is no longer working for?
  • How about answering abuse tickets before you make your site fancy? Geez.
  • this is probably a stupid question but when you rename a journal to a journal you already have and get left with the "ex_username" can you rename that to something else?
