The picnic had been a great success, Sam felt. It had obviously done a lot to help the others accept Max, and it had been a good way for the senior staff to spend time together without any stress or situations hanging over their heads.
Of course, they had teased Jack after the picnic since he had missed it even though he had been invited. Everyone was fairly sure...what he had been doing. Jack - in his usual way - told them exactly what they could do with themselves, much to Sam's amusement. A couple of days later, he informed them that he and Maggie were getting married the following month, and then said exactly what Woosley could do with himself if he made protests about having a marriage license issued.
Sam continued to work half duty shifts so she could spend time with her daughters. She knew at some point she'd have to get back to full shifts, but at the moment, she was enjoying spending time with CJ and Molly and being their mother as much as she liked being Atlantis' leader. It was a role she once never thought she'd never have the chance to fulfill, but Atlantis actually gave her the chance while she got to do what she loved.
She was just finishing up some work before going off-shift one day when the Gate spun to life. Getting up from her desk, she walked over her office door to watch as the event horizon coalesced before Chuck turned to her.
"Colonel Jackson, it's General Landry. He's patching through a call from Doctor Beckett," he told her.
Sam smiled. "Thanks, Chuck. Put it through to my office."
Returning to her desk, she pulled her laptop toward her so she could take the call. Ever since Sam Beckett's return from leaping through time, Project Quantum Leap had been in touch with them a few times to trade information. Sam had been passing everything on to Fred and Rodney.
"Sam, good to see you again," she said when he appeared on her screen.
"Sam," he said with a chuckle. "Just wanted to touch base and see how things were going."
They talked for several minutes before exchanging some of the project's and expedition's recent scientific work. After Sam told her that he was working on securing permission for another visit to the city, they said goodbye. Sam then copied the information the other Sam had sent to a disk and headed down to the science lab to Fred and Rodney.
"More information from Quantum Leap," she told them, handing the disk over.
