Oh that was excellent. What a perfect role for Sirius to play in this. I definitely thought his and Severus's relationship rang true, still snarking at each other even once they began doing other things. *g* I really quite liked the moment when Sirius discovered Severus was only checking up on him, obviously he was quite hurt by the news. Very well done.

Oh, now that's the way I wish the story had gone! Sirius--grown up and more grounded--is just as sexy as destructive!Sirius, but definitely, infinitely more fascinating.

Severus' reserve is spot-on! That's one courtship that will bear bruises as well as fruit for ages!

Well done!

adorable! i loved the development of their affair, and how snape can have dirty (deliciously filthy) sex with him, but not allow sirius to give him a kiss.

you broke my heart when sirius had to find out that snape was asked by dumbledore to keep an eye on him. and i loved that showdown in the end, where snape gives up his cover to save sirius, and sirius turns into an animagus to save snape!

wonderful! thank you for this!

Snack! It's been forever since I read a deliciously long and good Snack. The way their "association" develops is wonderfully believable -bit by bit, conversation by conversation, incident by incident. Snape's jealousy of how Potter manages to get through to Draco while he gets nowhere is so him, and so very hilarious. Loved Remus' cameos as well. Also, hotness.

And A+ for a story where the adults think for two minutes and don't let Dumbledore decide that the sixteen-year-olds will be solving all the messes. Yay Order members who actually do something significant!

Stories like this are what remind me why Snape/Black is my OTP. :)

The level of thought and detail that went into this story are impressive and I love that the sex -isn't- the main focus but rather it's just a really well told story that just happens to have wonderful sex scenes in it.

The development of the relationship is gradual and believable and Snape's reservations about letting Sirius close to his heart are just so true to the character. You really nailed what makes Snape so appealing and frustrating at the same time. I also love the development of Sirius as a more mature but still cheeky and slightly reckless man. He's still Sirius but changed in a way that is credible for how someone would be after a close brush with (permanent) death.

It would be very easy for me to gush (I probably already have) since there is a lot here that just made me smile but I'll just say this was a really nice way to end what has been an otherwise trying day. Thank you for this!

I love this. The pacing was so tight, the story so vivid that the words just flew by. It's amazing how well you were able to retell the Horcrux hunt without it feeling like information I already knew. And then there was the delicious, snarky Snack. OMG, how much do I love how you wrote this pairing? SO MUCH. They're still fighting, always fighting, always have to one-up each other and watching Sirius come to the realization that maybe that's not really what he wants? Fantastic. It made that final scene so much more poignant and lush. This is romance without the fluff, snark without bitterness and I loved every moment of it!

I love Sirius' POV and how their relationship develops. Especially with the added adorableness of Sirius just not getting it XD

And ouch, Dumbledore, that was not nice.

Great story :D

Wonderfully done! This was a real pleasure to settle in with. I don't often read in this pairing, but this is exactly the kind of AU that works for me. This is clever, well-written, and the dialogue is spot-on. Thank you so much for writing (all of) this!

What a brilliant job with what's often a difficult pairing for me to enjoy!
I loved the slow evolution of their relationship, the way you diverted from canon was masterful (and thank you for having someone tell DD that he shouldn't be using poor Harry for Horcrux hunting AND step up to the plate to do it) and I the moment Sirius discovered that Regulus wasn't the bastard he'd thought he was I teared up.
Also, the way Sirius longed for slow lovemaking with Severus just pushed all my fluffy buttons. Mmm.
Really nice job with this, mystery author!
This is one I'll be re reading. :)

This was a brilliant take on what could have happened had Sirius been rescued. I loved him as a more mature (while still the rogish imp we all love)protecting Harry and taking on these tasks. The wonderful build from animosity to sex buddies to begrudging romance between Snape and him was spot on perfect. I've never been a fan of Sirius/Snape but this I completely bought and loved. A wonderful read and one I'm sure to enjoy again and again.

Yay long plotty Snack! I enjoyed it very much! I admit I usually like my Snack more hate-flavoured but Sirius's change of attitude was believable and you kept Snape sharp-tongued and wary and unwilling to open up. Plus, they kept delightfully snarking at each other. Well, delightfully to me, though I think they rather enjoyed it too. ;)

Also, yay for Sirius-back-from-the-Veil AU! It was great how you used so many canon facts and events from HBP and DH in an AU way, incorporating them into the story. I loved what I assumed to be little meta moments like what the locket Horcrux said about Dumbledore and Sirius's throwaway comment about Hagrid's conception, heh. And something else I'm now forgetting - damn, I should have taken notes! When Sirius found out about Regulus I was so moved. Oh, Regulus. <3 If only that could have happened in canon! And Snape killing Nagini - that was a wonderful, gleeful moment. :D

Dear Mystery Author,

If there's a formula for taking Snack way beyond hatesex and still keeping Snape and Sirius in character, you've obviously got it scribbled on your chalkboard. The sex was hot and the characterization was believable -- which is what I totally want in Snack fics. What started as just physical one-offs turned into a relationship very smoothly. Sirius's anger when he discovered that he was Snape's "assignment" was just delicious, as was the final scene. Making this Sirius's POV was a very effective choice, and for as much as I love full-on anal sex, having them not quite go there (yet) was hot and realistic. Brava, Mystery Author! Writing Snack that's neither hate-sex nor romantic fluff but just a great all-around fic is quite the achievement. :D

That was luuurverly! I really wish canon had gone like this. Sirius' plotline has always been one of the things I hated most about OoTP. I always felt like he was verging on awesomeness, and then he died stupidly instead.

I love how you've characterised a more 'together' Sirius, who is still a bit of an arse, but has finally had the chance to grow up a bit. And your prickly defensive Snape is perfect. Their developing relationship was glorious.

I adore Sirius dealing with the Horcruxes as your plot flirts with Deathly Hallows while maintaining its independence.

This was so great.

When Sirius returns from beyond the Veil with knowledge of Voldemort's Horcruxes, he takes on the task of finding and destroying them.

This is a great premise for a story! =) B/c 'going at it alone, each person separately, while having no idea what needs to be doing nevermind how to do it in the first place, is a rather *bad* premise. (I am imagining that this fic is as good as I think it will be! *hasn't read yet*)

This is one of those stories that makes me believe in Snape/Black as a viable pairing. Both of their characters come out to play and create that push/pull dynamic that is so 'them'. As others have said, I'm so glad that *someone* decided a teenager should not be solely responsible for saving the world and tracking down bits of a powerful Dark Wizard's soul. Dumbledore lost most of my respect over that -- honestly, all those experienced, adult order members sitting around, doing bugger all, and he sends three teenagers out. Thank you so much for fixing that.

Just a wonderful story all around.

This isn't a pairing I often read but it was recc'd to me for having a very good Sirius. I was not disappointed! Your Sirius is fantastic! I very much enjoyed your characterization and the slow development of his relationship with Snape. I love the banter and the snark. I love Sirius' change in attitude and how he approaches Snape. The plot was interesting and engaging. Just a really great fic that I very much enjoyed.

Sorry to be commenting so late - was unfortunately tied up in work for a while & didn't get a chance to give this the attention it deserves.

Anyway, this is such a great piece and so exactly what I wanted! I love the way their relationship develops, and how they both really stay in character throughout, and all the plottiness. I also enjoyed their snarky conversations, and the way they both seem to grow emotionally - you show very convincingly how they can be good for each other. Thank you so much and I'm so glad I finally got to sit down and read it, it really made my day!

I have over 300 HP slash recs - almost all of which feature Snape - and only five of them are Snape/Black. As soon as the reveals take place and I see who wrote this really excellent story, that number will be increased to six.

Truly fine work. Good pacing, and very believable characterizations (plus extremely hot sex scenes, which - for somebody like me who's started skipping over most sex scenes because they're all beginning to seem "by the numbers" - that's saying something *g*). Well done, mystery author!

Excellent, just excellent. I normally find Severus/Sirius very difficult to believe, but you do a fine job of making their relationship plausible, developing it slowly and skillfully, bringing them together in logical ways.

I like AU plot -- it covers all the main canon points in believable alternatives, and I particularly enjoyed the way you dispatch in a line or two things that took chapters upon chapters in canon. (Example: the destruction of the Ravenclaw diadem.) I'm not criticizing the canon presentation, since in that version of the story, these incidents were important. But they're not needed in your alternative story; you just need the characters.

And what characters they are! My favorite parts are the conversations between Sirius and Severus: so beautifully IC, so well-structured and paced, just so satisfying overall. I could quote dozens of lines, but these are typically fun:

"One lager? That hardly makes me a drunkard, Snape. But I dare say you could use one more than me. Might loosen you up enough for you to get that hot poker out of your arse."
"Alcohol has never helped you to get your head out of yours."

You show us so clearly the adolescents still raging inside the grown men. And a great job with Remus, too -- all of them, really.

I was sorry to see the story end.

This story is as good as the prompt! :3 The 'final battle' you described actually reads better than the excuse for it in actual canon! What you wrote actually makes sense (and tends to give everyone involved more of a task to complete, instead of leaving people to 'hang' while three people complete the entire mission.). This way everything is more balanced. :) *goes to add to Memories*

What a satisfying read! I think it says so much about the development and narrative depth of this fic that, though I had to read it in fits and starts due to RL issues pulling me away, the plot and the characters stayed with me quite strongly, and I had no need to refresh myself on what had happened just previously, because the threads were all very well woven together.

I really liked seeing how Sirius gets his chance at action -- all kinds of action! ho ho! -- here. It's a great contrast to his frustrated isolation and stagnancy in OotP, this AU's scenario allowing him to insinuate himself into the most secret and most dangerous part of the plot to take down Voldemort. It was a relief, as well, to imagine Harry getting more space to have some coming of age without the enormous pressure of the later Horcrux Hunt, though I think Harry might not have comprehended the depth of what Sirius was attempting and accomplishing until after the game had been at last played out.

The hints at H/D were great fun: a nice parallel to the adolescent ire being gradually re-purposed by Sirius and Snape's sexytimes. Seeing glimpses of Harry and Draco perhaps becoming friends, perhaps becoming more, while they are still in their actual adolescence (and that enabled by Sirius's willingness to take on the Horcrux Hunt), provided a sense of how Sirius and Snape could be just as challenged and changed by their relationship though they are of course now adults.

And Snape's sour reactions to Sirius's joie-de-vivre (nice to see that angle of Sirius that must have hearkened back to his young adulthood, though now with the tempering of what he learned and gained through his near-death experience) were great -- I can absolutely believe him feeling trifled with, but also drawn to, this independent and mysterious (and more unflappable) version of Sirius.

Glad they were able to take their interactions to a far more intimate level than either of them could have predicted -- I like that they went through the crisis of revealing Snape's initial reason for sticking around (of course Snape's role in the struggles with Voldemort would have inescapably played a role in his interactions with Sirius), and that they each took great personal risk in order to save one another in the moment of greatest crisis.

Well done!

That was just awesome. A much better, and much more satisfying book 6 and 7 than she wrote.

The sex was hot.

And the story that tied it together even hotter. It's possible to get those two to have sex, but getting them to have sex, and actually like/care about each other and have it feel wonderfully and sexily inevitable is so much harder, and you did a spectacular job.

Now I must re-read some parts.... ;>
