A snarry day...

Previous Entry Add to Memories Tell a Friend Next Entry
An overload of snarry fic and art recs from this year's [info]snarry_games. A corresponding dearth of snupin and other pairings.

SNARRY FICS:

Last week, I recced [info]joanwilder aka raewhit's Sex, Lies and Audiotapes from the [info]snarry_games. This week I've got FIVE more recs from the [info]snarry_games:

>> The Shadowless Hereafter by [info]perfica.
Rating: pg-15
Warning: character death; infidelity
Summary: "Mr Woodlock is a reporter from a very important periodical. He is here because he wishes to interview me on my time in the Great War."
Genres: Literary, Alive and Kicking (EWE)
Prompts: Candle in the Window

A Wuthering Heights influenced story, with a lovely nineteenth century novel feel. Very well-written and moving. Snape is the perfect Heathcliff, and Harry works well in the Kathy role here. The narration reproduces the tone of the narrator of a Romantic/Victorian novel outstandingly well.

>> Two Lords a Leaping by [info]alisanne.
Rating: pg-13
Warning: character death (not Harry/Snape)
Summary: This is the story of what happened the day a Potions master teamed up with Time Lord to stop a megalomaniac from taking over the world.
Genres: Fandom Crossovers and/or Fusions and Alive and Kicking (or Snape EWE)
Prompts: Angels and Demons

A Dr Who cross-over - You don't need to be a Dr Who fan, or even know much about the Dr Who universe to enjoy this one. Very well-written, the doctor is very cleverly integrated into the HP universe - it's a brilliant example of a successfully managed cross-over.
This story is really lively and entertaining - the doctor is such an appealing character, and his interactions with Severus are priceless. I was surprised how well these two fictional universes meshed - there's a lovely scene where the doctor is anticipating Severus's surprise when he enters the Tardis... and Severus responds with sublime nonchalance.
This story is a perfect fusion of the worlds of Dr Who and HP.

>> Thrice Turned by ThreeSidedOrchid/[info]synn
Rating: nc-17
Warnings: het intercourse; implied non-snarry pairing; Harry is 17
Summary: Severus has always been bad at making decisions, when left to his own devices.
Genres: Genderbending/cross-dressing
Prompts: Consequences, Some Enchanted Evening

Initially, I read this one rather reluctantly, I didn't think it would appeal at all, but then I was trapped... and, wow, it is good!!
Thought-provoking, macabre & chilling in a non-Horror way - the sort of fic that stays with you long after you've read it.

>> D is for Defender by [info]amand_r.
Rating: nc-17
Warning/s: Fisting.
Summary: There's a man stalking the Wizarding world. Or a bat. Maybe a Man-Bat. Severus is probably having an affair, Harry's tired all the time, oh, and those drunks out in East Anglia are complaining about the green lights. Again.
Genres Alive and Kicking (EWE)
Prompts: Green Lantern, Enemy At The Gate

There really has been such a wide variety of sub-genres in this year's snarry_games. This fic is humour at its best - it's so fun to read, it's absolutely hilarious.
Who is the mysterious Man-bat, saving the Wizarding world from evil? What's going on with the green lights, and poor Draco? And why can't Harry find a decent cup of coffee?
The story is riveting, maintaining suspense (and humour) throughout. Harry is so appealing and engaging, Ginny is wonderful (yes, Ginny!) and Severus is perfect. It all comes together as one of the most entertaining reads. Do go read it, you'll love it.

ART:

>> The Hero's Return by [info]cluegirl.
Rating: pg-13
Warning:
A/N: In Ireland's Ulster Cycle of myths, you may find the story of Nuada Silver-Arm High King of the besieged Tuatha DeDanann in their war against Balor of the Evil Eye, and his Formoire army. Just when the black sorcerer's treachery seemed poised to triumph, a fiery young hero, Lugh the Longhanded, appeared on the scene to thoroughly upset everyone's expectations.
Genres: Historical / Literary
Prompts: Fire and Sword, Code of Honour

As I've probably complained before, I'm not as moved by visuals as I am by words. But this picture did capture me - it's hypnotically gorgeous, it's divine.... Do take the time to look at this beautiful picture.
