The Windshield of Destiny

Four  scans from Captain America #49, in which there is an emotional scene, wacky dreamscapes, and quite possibly the best line of the series so far.

So, most of the issue is a fairly standard Brubaker character piece, ie, a damn great character piece, focussed on Sharon, as she tries to put her mind back together.  Then, one day, she notices (or allows herself to notice) for the first time that she's got a scar on her abdomen:

Look on Sam's face there?  Perfect.  This is definitely Ross's best issue on art yet.

At issue's end, with more memory back, she has the latest in a series of bizarre nightmares:

She then wakes up, and is left wondering what the machine was doing before she destroyed it back in #42.

Also:

"Shut your chattering gob, you frail wench! You are but a gnat splattering on the windshield of destiny!"

Is a line so awesome that only a robot-Nazi mad scientist could possibly pull it off.

I'd be more impressed if it wasn't just an extension of the now *two* freaking years of her bieng a weepy useless mess. Weepy mind controlled murderer, weepy angsty guilty turncoat for the Red Skull, weepy pregnant kidnappee, now weepy post-abortion chick.

How much did Peter and Mary Jane talk about losing Baby May? I personally was wondering why it didn't come up when Luke and Jessica were having their baby, especially how MJ was all "D'awww baby!"

When was Dazzler pregnant?

When was Dazzler pregnant?

Early days of Adjectives-less X-Men. (Might have been in Uncanny, but about the same time frame, 91-92). Professor X detected Allison was pregnant, and the broad hints were that the kid would eventually grow up to be Shatterstar (Longshot was the daddy, BTW). As far as I know, she never actually looked pregnant, in story. In fact, her pregnancy was only ever mentioned again twice: Once in a back-up story, and once in UXM, years later. There, Bobby was about to ask Dazzler how the baby she would've obviously had by then was doing, but Jean cut him off, telling him not to bring the baby up to Allison. As far as I know, it's the last ANYBODY mentioned Allison's pregnancy.

Do women normally lactate from their eyes like that?

On seeing the scans I rather thought that she was tipping a glass of milk into her eyes in "It was then that I developed my drinking problem" fashion.

I think she drank some strange kind of Gatorade that's gone a bit bad. It's coming out of her as vaguely white, so I don't know what flavor that would be... and it seems to be... stringing off her chin? Ewwwwwwwww...

...Is it just me or is Zola's head thing different in both spots? I actually like the weird "hands holding the head thing" look. It makes him look mysteriously less silly and more goddamn surreal.

I think that sequence is part of her nightmare, although I too like the "hands holding the head box" look. It's creepy, could almost be a little giger-ish.

Can you please refrain from describing the issue outside the cut in the future if the issue just came out, like you did with this post and Uncanny X-Men?

What is it that the name "Sin" is so popular for established character's kids?

Red Skull's daughter: Sin.
Black Canary's daughter: Sin.
Ky Kiske's son: Sin.

And I'm pretty sure there is a fourth one I can't remember.

Yeah! What's wrong with naming a kid, "Minor Faux Pas" instead?
