Log: Nish and Atticus
Who: Nish and Atticus
What: It’s super hard to sleep when there’s literal demons keeping you awake...
Where: the B&B
When: Monday, January 15, 2018
Nish didn't believe in ghosts, which the god living inside her head found hilarious. But she couldn't deny the strange vibe this B&B had, enough that she couldn't quite get comfortable, despite the plush bed and tastefully - if dated - decorated rooms. She and Sadie had quickly established a comfortable routine together, so that she happily considered the girl a friend now rather than brief acquaintance. But her presence still wasn't enough to ward off the nightmares that plagued her since the crash.
They always started the same, with her and James together. Happy. And then something happened to ruin that happiness, as it always did. Usually it was the crash, although sometimes it was other things. If they were on vacation somewhere, he’d drown, or if they were at her apartment it would burn down around them. Tonight they were out walking, hand in hand down Main Street in Repose, and he was suddenly shot by a masked assailant.
She woke up with a gasp, tears in her eyes, taking several minutes to orient herself to her dark surroundings; the warm weight of the duvet on top of her, the soft ticking of the clock in the living room. The suite was silent but for that, and her own hitching breath and discordant heartbeat racing painfully in her chest. She groaned and forced herself out of bed, padding with socked feet over to the bathroom where she fumbled in the medicine cabinet for the prescription bottle of nitroglycerin, sitting down on the toilet seat and aiming the spray bottle under her tongue for one dose to calm her rapid heart rate. A few minutes of sitting quietly and she could feel it starting to work, though it did nothing to banish the nightmare still playing out on repeat behind her eyes.
Her thoughts immediately went to the minibar in the living room, though even she could see that for the bad idea it was. She wanted nothing more than to get drunk and pass out in bed, but with her heart acting up that wasn’t an option. So instead, she headed out into the living room and pulled on her boots, taking care not to make too much noise and disturb Sadie in the other room. She grabbed her room key and quietly left, locking up behind her and slipping the key into her boot as she did.
This place was huge, and if she couldn’t sleep, she might as well explore, taking in everything there was to see on her floor, wandering aimlessly in the quiet, hoping she could somehow focus on something else for long enough to forget.
