[Warehouse in the Capital: Hannah & Ren]
Who: Hannah & Ren
What: An unpleasant adventure
Where: Beyond the Industrial District, an abandoned warehouse, the Capital
When: Fuzzy nowish, evening
Warnings/Rating: Evil bad guys being evil bad guys? AI torture?
Hannah returned her phone to the pocket of her jeans. She'd texted Ren the address to where she stood, to the corner just beyond the warehouse at the far end of the Industrial District in the Capital, and she was checking to make sure he hadn't gotten lost. She didn't think he'd gotten lost at all, and not enough time had passed for her to worry about that, but she was kind of really pins and needles about this excursion. Anxiety was new for her. It wasn't something she was programmed to feel, and she could almost feel transmitters zapping in her head as they were altered, changed, made new and different, and she tucked her hands into the pockets of her jacket as she waited.
She was dressed simply, in the only pair of jeans she owned. She didn't really like jeans, but she thought she should be able to move really fast, just in case they needed to move really fast.
There were a lot of people milling around, and there were a lot of people going inside, and she wondered if this was a really bad idea. She wondered if bringing Ren was a really bad idea, but she didn't want to go alone, and she knew it would be crowded and smushed and filled with people come to see terrible things. She knew because she'd researched this online, and she knew lots of people came, and she knew this was so frowned on that it happened really, really far away from the city itself. Originally, it had taken place in Second City, but it had grown too big, and it had grown too profitable, and now they were here, where there was nothing but rows and endless rows of warehouses and darkness and the sound of the river's water licking black and bilious against concrete and wooden docks.
But it would be okay and they wouldn't stay long, and she would know and see and it would be done, done and done. She pulled her phone out of her pocket, and she checked it again.
