Re: log: hannah and ren
Hannah was largely unaware of the bigger picture and the larger world. Her focus was small, small, and gave Ren a bright-pure smile, grateful from corner of mouth to corner of mouth, when he lifted the boy from the table. And Hannah didn't hesitate then. She nodded to the woman that approached, and then she nudged at Ren's hip, go and I'll follow in the touch of her fingertips to his back. She wanted to make sure no one followed, that no one blindsided him or did him harm. But she stayed close, close to his back, and she didn't look behind herself even once. She was no Orpheus trailing behind Eurydyce. She followed.
Outside, the young woman led the way to a truck, and inside were a few other stolen AIs. A young man was behind the wheel, impatient and looking back at the warehouse with obvious concern. "Come on, man, hurry up," he told Ren, and he reached back to open the door to the extended cab. "Get in, Janey," he told the young woman, and the woman dithered, clearly wanting to go in and rescue more. "No," the man behind the wheel insisted. "We're pushing it as it is. Thank you," he added to Ren.
Hannah nudged Ren again. She trusted these people, and the boy would be fine with them. In the distance emergency vehicle sirens neared, and chaos was pouring out of the doors of the warehouse and running, trampling. After all, there were two dead men inside, and no one wanted to be held responsible for that.
