He'd only been in town a couple of days and, already, Riddick was starting to make something of a name for himself. The outcasts of society - the rapists and thieves and general scoundrels - were coming out of the proverbial woodwork to either shake his hand or try his patience. He'd already had no less than three offers of those willing to join him and at least a half dozen attempts on his life by those wanting to cement their place as a bad-ass in the world they chose to inhabit. Even the demons were starting to sit up and take notice.
Deciding that another night spent downtown was only going to lead to yet more proving that he was not someone to cross, Riddick headed for the beaches. The ocean was quite a sight to behold in the moonlight, the waves lapping at the sand in an almost hypnotic fashion. Perched on a short cliff overlooking the water, his goggles loosely clasped in one hand, he took a few moments to appreciate the natural beauty of the place.
The sound of someone behind him and just off to his left, no matter how muffled the footsteps might seem to anyone else, caught his attention easily enough. Rather than jump to his feet, though, he simply stayed in his crouched position and enjoyed the salty breeze that blew across his skin. The footsteps paused for a second - perhaps they had finally noticed him - and that was when he spoke.
"Not very polite, sneaking up on a person. Might land you in some trouble if you aren't careful." His attention remained on the ocean rather than looking over his shoulder at the person he was speaking to. Sometimes, he'd found, the best way to disarm someone wasn't to face them head-on but rather force them to make the first move. Their response would determine if they were friend or foe. He would only react accordingly, as was per usual.
