So, yeah, peeps

I. AM. HOME. DAMN. IT!!!

I am also bloody knackered and still awake at 2 AM... shut up. *grumbles*

I downloaded Merlin, haven't watched yet though, since I put Hot Fuzz on - which I bought in Dunfermline before leaving.

I have one thing to say.

I may... possibly... have a thing for Simon Pegg in full uniform, bulletproof vest, sunglasses and with an arsenal that would make Rambo weep with envy

Is there any help to be had for that? Is it considered healthy? Should I just admit to having strange taste in men?

I got fic, wheeee!!!

I got my Kinky Kristmas wish at [info]daily_deviant yesterday and I'm so very lucky because this is wonderful. :)

Idle Threat by Anonymous (Sirius/Regulus, Severus/Sirius/Regulus; NC-17; ~4,400 words)
Severus finds Sirius and Regulus doing something brothers should not be doing, and exacts payment for his silence.
Warning for dub-con bordering on non-con, and incest, obviously.

This is rather dark, and oh, so, so good! The kind of fic you don't often see anymore - it felt quite oldschool to me. :) Marauders-era, and I loved how there's clearly deep affection between Sirius and Regulus despite their family issues, and then there's Snape, who's malicious and cruel as he jumps at the chance to extract revenge on Sirius for all his bullying. The Snape/Sirius dynamic is perfect as for me, very canon. The fic is power games and blackmail and wrongness and great dialogue. And there's angry-wrong-hot sex, too. It all filled me with such glee. I definitely recommend it and not just because it's my gift, though it is a marvellous gift! :D

I'm super busy with work and stuff till Dec. 17, but I'm still trying to read and look at anything that grabs my attention, so there might be holiday fest recs at some point. (As long as I get out of my latest bad habit of posting only once a month. >.>)

Drawble: Magical Baby (Merlin/Morgana, G)

I did this drawble for the Merlin/Morgana Love thread at Camelot_Fleet on Dreamwidth, for their episode 2.10 party, to answer miarrow's prompt of "Pretty. Magical. Babies."
Yeah, I used pretty much the same profile reference photos as in "Chasing a Dream", because they were, you know, there.

Title: Magical Baby

Fic: Like This (Morgana/Nimueh, NC-17)

Merlin, Morgana/Nimueh, ~350 words, NC-17
Warnings: explicit rimming, straight-up PWP, nasty
Summary: There are many ways to be fucked.

Hey, I needed a break from writing fest fics. And [info - personal] b_hallward seems to like this pairing. *g*

HP Holiday Recs Part I (and some other things, too!)

Here, have some recs! :D I'm in the process of reading several [info] hd_holidays fics at once (current mission is to finish Savage), so if there's not a fic here, it's just because I'm behind. This is more a reflection of what I've had time to read and liked. ♥

Also, remember to check out the postings at [info - community] snarry_holidays and comment, if you can!

Sorry if you saw this earlier - I posted on LJ first and now crossposting to IJ and DW.

I haven't done this in ages, but I can't resist. :D

If you could resurrect/bring back five characters, who would they be?

i cleaned my room!!!!!! O.o

It took me all day, mostly because I got distracted and went onto tangential activities (caring for my plants and laptop, mostly). I cannot wait to move downstairs into my new room, there isn't enough shelf space in "my" current room and some of the furniture isn't really mine.

Agh. The tail end of this is getting very tedious. Taking a semester off was probably a good idea, but I all I have done for the past 4 months is think, plan, and daydream. It isn't exactly my natural state of being, but at least I've gotten to the point where I can be entirely self-sufficient with my time. Never again will I be bored! And never again will I have this much time to relax, of that I am 100% sure. Sadly I feel no bit of regret.

lol  Though, I have read at least 20 books in the past couple months-- and I am possibly a passable piano player now. I'm working on sight reading for the next week, by giving myself one chance to play a piece right at first glance. It's pretty motivating, and someday I'll go back through both the books I'm using to fine tune my technique. I'm still crap with peddles and get muddled with tempo (though only when it is not 3/4 time.....).

[I love my iPod touch so much more than any other piece of technology I have ever owned. The honeymoon period will never end.]

PSAs and soapy musings

Public Service Announcement #1: InsaneJournal's running a permanent account sale for the next month. I know I've got some new friends at IJ *cuddles you all* and if you can at all afford it, this is a very good deal. *cuddles my 500 icons*

Public Service Announcement #2: Speaking of things that must be purchased despite being unreasonably outrageously priced: the Gays of Our Lives con FINALLY got their website up and running. Looks like all the DeRo-centric stuff is scheduled for Saturday; I'd love to try to swing the VIP ticket, seeing as it's for charity and all, but it'll be tight. And to be honest, the other stuff doesn't appeal. (Brunch? Do I really want to see these people in the morning... or have them see me before I've downed a bucket of coffee? [info - personal] shellydkitty and [info - personal] aldiara can verify that it ain't pretty.) But there will be an EKP kinda thingy there during some of the free time, and we will have to get our "AWZ: This show's not for wimps" t-shirts.

Anybody else thinking of going?

So [info - personal] aldiara and I are rewatching DeRo v.1 together, and I haz thoughts...

And now? Now an intervention is required before I set out to make an AWZ moodtheme. Somebody handcuff me to my laptop and make me work, please!

Day 5 - Cardiff to Blackpool and Day 6 - Blackpool to Dunfermline

Day 5 - Cardiff to Blackpool

In the morning, we set out to go to Blackpool - our midstop before we would be back in Dunfermline. We chose to go via the A49 instead of heading to the M6 - mostly because we knew from the way down that south of Manchester was road works about every 20 mins and in a lot of places we'd been forced down to 40 mph - sometimes less and a few times full stop. So we decided to avoid the motorway up until south of Preston - then we headed onto it and then off toward Blackpool.

Blackpool... was... a bit kitchy - the permanent lights were REALLY kitchy XD - the Christmas lights were okay, nothing extreme light sleigh-riding Santas. They make me want to barf.

Day 4 - Cardiff by day and night

So, the next morning we went to the Doctor Who Exhibit (again, since we went this summer) and I was roughly 50 quid poorer when we came out *flushes*

Outcome:

♥ John Barrowman's new biography (signed)
♥ Two sets of mini figures (doctor who) - one for Nicci one for me
♥ A special TW version of Jack - with a blue shirt! numbered too *g*
♥ TW playing cards
♥ A tardis key ring

Ahem, yeah, shut up!

a random rant + stuff

Getting e-mail responses from my senators always makes my blood pressure skyrocket.  It's not that I don't understand that they are pretty much absolutely opposed to my views on just about everything, but I still get so peeved to get these long involved letters that pretty much tell me that I am an idiot. I may be over-sensitive here, but I wish they would just skip the overly text-heavy reply and just say that they received my message, some intern made a note somewhere of the general gist, and they are going to do what they want anyway. Better that than this ridiculous response in which they pretend to relate to me when it couldn't be more obvious that it's a canned platform response. They even say that it's because of citizens like me that they will keep blocking the very legislation I wrote in to support (or vice versa). Do they have no concept of a constituent writing in to disagree?
Also, I don't appreciate the informal greeting, nor the generic "Friend".  I'm not a friend of my congresspeople, I am one of their many constituents.  Call me "Constituent" if you can't automate a Title and Surname off the e-mail form. Let's be real about our relationship.
One good thing I can say is that so far I haven't gotten any letters. My old rep (Democrat, not that it seems to matter) used to send those canned, patronizing responses on expensive letterhead (sometimes two pages worth!) even after I asked the folks on the phone not to send me a response.
At least the interns who answer my phone calls have so far been unfailingly polite.

Maybe I should go have a drink and relax. I am obviously overthinking today.

Can I just say, too, while I'm ranting, SNOW?! In December? In Houston? Seriously, what is that? Oh, climate change, how we love you. The birds are going to be so flipping confused. Not to mention the trees. They all still have leaves!  Anyway...

Lunchtime is over. Got stuff to do today and then I'm driving to Austin in the morning. Cons... there are some events when having a smartphone with web access would be quite useful.

I'm going to add in a small squee, because I can: Merlin Series 3 got the green light from the BBC! w00t! Why must my only currently airing fandom be something none of my RL friends likes or has heard of? I need some folks to squee with...  oh, well.

Day 3 - Alcester to Cardiff

Now, day 3 went very well. We ate a big breakfast across from the Travlodge at the Little Chef's. Then we went our seperate ways (after making sure we'd chased everyone else off by being... well , us LOL). Nicci and I dropped [info] toastedtoad in Stratford at the Morrisson's so she could have a bit of coffee beore she caught her train.

Nicci and I, not wanting to pay toll to get into Wales, drove up and around the top of the river Severn. It would have been okay if there hadn't been a minor traffic accident and we had to be diverted onto some odd B road, driving almost behind a rather large lorry. And there were parts of the road with more than a little flooding. We finally made it down to Cardiff and although we managed to do a slight detour into the Butetunnel, we realized right away and got turned around on the other side and the Travelodge was located without any problems.

After checking in, we went for a walk and stupid as I was, I forgot my scarf and I now pay for that with a cold. Fully medicated, I bring you pictures of Cardiff bay at night. At least some of it, as I was bloody freezing!

Any Turkish speakers in the house

This is a totally random question, but we are befuddled by a Turkish word used on our German soap. It sounds like "shoe-pus" and might be spelled şöpaz or çepaz or shöpas or [insert your own spelling], and it's just baffling us. (Well, baffling [info - personal] aldiara anyway, because she's awesome like that and won't rest until she cracks it.)

In context, one character is complaining about her family and her boyfriend says he could get his brothers to beat everyone up, and she replies, "Yes, then the [shöpaz] would be over." So we're thinking it's something like "drama" or "idiocy" or "trouble", but none of those meanings are churning out anything that remotely looks like şöpaz or çepaz or shöpas.

Here's the 15 second clip where they use it. Repeatedly.

Any thoughts?

ETA: OK, so a query at [info - community] linguaphiles turned up... well, nothing, other than that it's probably a made-up word. Or possibly slang Turkish used in Germany. But with native speakers as baffled as we are, we don't feel so bad.

SOLVED! Thanks to [info - personal] frogspace and [info - personal] gin_tonic who explained it's a faux-Turkish pronunciation of 'Spaß'. THANK YOU!

There's a an enjoyable short piece over at [info]snarry_holidays, posted tonight. It's a crossover, but don't let that scare you away. ;-) Bouncd and Chained (To You) (PG) has great writing, it's cute and Snape is wonderfully snarky.

wednesday stuff

[info]glockgal has started a meme for fanartists to share the love. my fanart meme entry

It's really cold here, which is weird. And I've discovered that I'm kind of unprepared, so I'd best go pick up some things before the end of the month when I go to Philadelphia.
By the way, northeast folks - I'm going to be in Philadelphia for the end of the year. I'll probably have a day or an afternoon to meet with locals if you're in the area. Give me a call or drop me a line.

Good lord, I have less than a month before I leave.  Eek eek eek.

Art is proceeding well, but as usual my list of projects keeps growing ahead of my ability to finish anything.

Writing not proceeding so well, but slow is ok as long as it gets done.

Austin this weekend for SMOFCon, then next weekend is the election and then the next weekend is meeting and parties and when exactly was I hoping to get anything done again?  Hmm.

Still making my way through Doctor Who, although I took some time to listen to the three episode commentaries on the Volume 1 DVD of Merlin Series 2.  Interesting.  I wish those DVDs could include deleted scenes, even (perhaps especially) ones played out against CGI stand-ins or greenscreen.  It would be so interesting. Plus we might see some of the characters that appear to have gotten pretty short shrift in the show as aired. (Hi, Morgana!)

Right, gotta make art now.
