The infirmary and the veterinary clinic were right next to each other, so after David had finished with his work for the day (a couple of dogs who'd gotten some kind of pet flu, along with a lady's pet ferret who wasn't so lucky and needed to be put down; David's least favorite part of taking care of animals), he'd gone to visit his older brother; see if he had any time. They'd talked for a little while; David had whined at his brother about his stupid birthday prank and then they talked about Rae and whatever the situation between the two of them was and how for once, David had been right. And he was unable to wipe the smug smirk off his face. So rare were the occasions that he was legitimately, truly right—especially when it came to matters of the heart—that when he was, he liked to cherish them. When they made his brother happy? Well, that was just a bonus. Rae would be good for him. She was a good person; kind and friendly and she genuinely seemed to care about Elliot deeply. When he'd gone to leave, Elliot had asked him to send Rae his way, and David nodded. That was the moment that the smug smile formed, and it hadn't gone away yet. He got to the little sleeping area, where it was easily noticeable that Rae's bright pink sleeping bag had been moved a little bit closer to Elliot's, and he saw Rae sitting on her computer, chatting with someone. He waved her attention and nodded his head toward the infirmary, mouthing the words "Eli wants you," and planning to gather a book and spend some time alone reading. But apparently, Rae had other plans. "Oh!" she brightened up. "Speak of the devil..." she turned her head back to glance at her computer. "Eli calls. But I'm not done with you yet," she said, pointing at her computer. "Hey David!" she turned her head and glanced up at David and beckoned him over. "Mind talking to my friend Allie while I go see what your brother wants?" Arching an eyebrow, David looked down at the computer and then at Rae. You know I can't talk to girls dripped from his expression, but Rae's was one of reassurance, so he swallowed thickly and nodded, sitting down beside Rae. Rae spoke up again. "Allie? This is Elliot's brother David. David? This is my best friend Allie. I'll be back soon, promise! Twenty minutes, tops!" she said, before setting the laptop on David's hands and running off in the direction of the infirmary. David settled Rae's computer onto his lap, and he looked down at the screen. Oh. This was that... really pretty girl from the forums who'd posted the Christmas video. As if talking to girls in general wasn't bad enough... pretty girls? David already felt his cheeks heating up. "Um... hi..." he started, waving at the screen. |
