An awkward chuckle. “No,” he shook his head when asked if he was argumentative. “Whatever is the most opposite thing to argumentative, that's me.” David occasionally bordered on pushovery and he knew it. He just didn't like disappointing people, and would generally do most anything to keep it from happening. “As for you... I get the sense that you're opinionated, but you're still not a fan of fighting. Clearly this is the beginning of a wonderful friendship.” He was only kidding, but he wouldn't object, of course, if it ended up happening that way.
“Good to know that I have your seal of approval,” he smirked wryly. So all he had to do was be himself and that was enough for once? At least for now? David would take it. “For the record, you're off to a good start, too.”
David nodded. “And Elliot would be lost without me,” though he wasn't sure of the truth to that, since his brother had survived just fine for four years without him. “And Rae would be lost without Elliot, and without you, for that matter. She's always talking about her awesome best friend Allie and how much she misses her,” he added matter-of-factly. “So, it's settled. We're both important. For reasons far beyond the obvious ass-kicking and name-taking,” he finished, grinning at Allie and hoping that he made her feel better.
“I'll keep that in mind,” he nodded. And he would. Because while he didn't mind being alone, he greatly preferred not being alone all the time. Especially when Rae and Elliot went off and did their couply things. It was nice to think that he was a little less alone in the world.
Laughing once, hollowly, when Allie called him her hero, he shrugged one shoulder rather than destroy that image. “If you say so,” he said sheepishly. “I was happy to help though.” God knows that sometimes all he wanted was someone to tell Sanderson or Ethan that he wasn't useless. Elliot did and Rae did, even Guillien did sometimes, but Sanderson thought they were all useless and Ethan liked antagonizing Elliot just as much as he liked antagonizing David. Rae too, by proxy.
She would be his first dance, that went without saying. But he truly didn't expect the same in return. It was nice for her to agree in preservation of his feelings, but he genuinely didn't expect for her to wait for him to start getting into things. Rather than say that, however, he smiled, nodded and pushed a hand through his hair, thinking that he'd straightened it out when in fact he made it about ten times worse. “I look forward to it, then,” he nodded seriously.
So lost was he in the conversation that he hadn't noticed Rae's return. The woman stood over him, her grin a little mischievous and a lot satisfied, and she waved a hello. “Oh...” he chuckled. “Hi Rae. How long have you been standing there?”
Rae shrugged and smiled, shaking her head. “Not too long, but long enough,” she said evasively. “I'll take the computer back now, though.”
David nodded his head and turned his attention back to Allie with a smile, before typing a quick message to send to her. “That's my Facetime number. Like I said... I'm here whenever.”
