WHO: Kris and George
WHAT: Setting up the awesome solar non-internet thing at Grand Central.
WHERE: Why, Grand Central, of course!
WHEN: Backdated slightly. 11/11/18, morning.
RATING: Low, more than likely.
To be honest, he didn't know how anyone hadn't come up with this idea before. He didn't know why he hadn't come up with this before! Yeah, it required a lot of work and yeah it was a little more difficult than just tweaking a couple of wires – especially with the current state of things – but Kris had been here the whole time and he could have done it easily. Yes, the internet was a luxury, and yes, online communications could easily have been considered a thing of the past, but Kris didn't think so. He'd had all the proper equipment for ages, so why hadn't he pieced two and two together and tried to do something like this?
It had taken some convincing. A lot of convincing and a clear, concise diagram of what he planned to do, but he'd eventually convinced the Men in Charge that it was possible and smart to hook up an intranet of sorts to go from safehouse to safehouse. Communication would both help morale and help people find their lost loved ones, and the downsides were pretty limited. There were a couple safehouses that didn't have computers, but Kris knew he could could put a few pretty basic ones together for them out of scraps.
It would have made sense that they let him do Grand Central first, since he lived there and all, but they hadn't. Their reasoning was somewhat sound… they wanted him to start at some of the more secluded safehouses and give them a means of communication, so they'd sent him out to Liberty Island first. It had been rough goings there, but eventually, he'd gotten it working. The same had happened at each subsequent safehouse, and he almost had everything ready to go. All he needed to do now was configure things at Grand Central, and his brilliant little system would be up and running.
He lay down flat on the floor near one of the internet jacks in the corner of the Grand Central safehouse, his solar panel over his head as he tweaked the wires to properly connect. It was a precise art and required that he take care not to fuck up. It was almost more nerve wracking that remote detonation, and he sincerely hoped that he got through it without being bothered too much.
