Why I like this fic: It's been a while since I read this fic, but I recently found it again. It's beautifully written, and absolutely addictive. I've read it twice so far, and plan on reading it again once I get a chance to (which will likely be once midterms are over...)

Summary: Saving Connor begins an AU of Harry Potter's school years, the Sacrifices Arc, where Harry's twin Connor (bearing a heart-shaped scar) is acknowledged as the Boy-Who-Lived. Harry and Connor have a loving relationship, and Harry plays the role of personal bodyguard/silent support for his brother to the hilt.
Why I like this fic: This fic is beautifully written. It's incredibly long- it took me a week to read this 3 million word monster (for comparison, it took me less than 4 hours to read DH). The OCs are well integrated- they're well rounded, and avoid Mary Sue-ism. It's probably the most angst-filled story I've read- part of the reason it took me so long is that I had to stop reading at points to keep from getting overwhelmed- hell, the bloody thing made me cry.

Animalia by gyzym. James/Sirius, Remus/Sirius, James/Lily PG-13, summary: Everyone assumed that Sirius and James got on so well because they were exactly alike and they were all wrong; everyone assumed Sirius and James got on so well because they were both crazy and that was true.

I was asked to beta this and... basically squealed a lot and (sort of) flogged her into finishing. The characterization! The Peter-actually-existing! The Remus and his marmalade! The Sirius! I shall include an excerpt to tempt you:

Why I like this fic: A fascinating character study of James as a Right Prick, and how he goes around basically screwing over everyone he supposedly cares about as a mode of self-love, and just. Mm. Reeeeead it.

Why I like this fic: This is really well written, the characters acts and thoughts are described realistically and the emotions seems real. The only thing that I don't like is that the update takes a long time, but it doesn't matter, because every chapter is a piece of art! And don't forget all the beautiful pictures that a lot of readers have done.

Why I like this fic: First of all, this is a long fic- 100 chapters plus an epilogue. It's well written, with a well-rounded plot, and follows Harry and Draco from almost immediately after HBP through to the end of their lives and beyond. A good read if you're looking for a novel lenght fic and don't mind a bit of het mixed in with your slash.

Summary:
Why I like this fic: This is the second piece I've read by this writer, and both times I've been really surprised that there's not more hoo-ha. The writing is sparse and elegant, and the twisted, hectic, and universally unhappy sense of it just adds to the elegance. The story spans each of Remus' seven years at Hogwarts, each starting off with something Sirius taught him that year. The progression is nicely paced, and though a few times I did think to myself, 'Aren't they a bit too young for this?' each time the writer ties it back into plausibility with their reactions to all of the weirdness. I really recommend reading this, and others by freudian_fuckup, because the sense of poignant despair, dappled with all-too-short moments of breath-taking hope, is just really, really groovy.

Why I like this fic: Podentes has become almost iconic in the realm of forced-bonding fics, and for good reason. It's well written, and while it is subject to some of the cliches associated with forced-bonding fics, Jordan adds a definite unique twist.

Now that school's starting up, I won't have as much time to devote to maintaining hp_slash_recs, and I'm looking for people who are willing to help out, especially as my computer has been giving me problems and I may have very limited internet access for a couple of weeks should it die on me again.

Title: Harry Potter and the Mirror Of Paradox

Why I like this fic: It's a reality-travel stroy, in which Harry was threw into alternate reality and was re-sorted into other House and showed us his gifted and intelligent side and blossomed under a false name. He's a totally different paeson from canon, but not unreasonable so. Mostly, it focused on how Harry grows and matures into a capable and powerful wizard.

Summary: Harry is in his last year at Hogwarts, which makes him 17 and therefore legal. (An aside here: I am still a little uncomfortable writing him at that age even if he is legal...guess I'm not real material for The Black List).

The War is still raging and Voldemort is giving the Order of the Phoenix a good run for its money. Things are tense.

Draco, also 17, also in his last year, has repudiated his father and all that he stands for after...well, who cares. Make up a reason that will please you. All that's important is that some newly revealed addendum of the Prophecy has indicated that he is somehow important to Harry's eventual success. Should, of course, Harry succeed.

Therefore, both lads have to work together.

And, right now, they're getting along as well as...two wet cats in a sac, a starving terrier and an enraged rat who does not intend to be supper. As well as a Gryffindor and a Slytherin who have hated each other's guts from the moment they met.

This is very worrying for Albus Dumbledore, who knows that they have to get them to – at the very least – co-operate. To that end, he has tried all sorts of things...with no success. As Harry's Head of House, Minerva McGonagall has tried talking to him with no greater success. Severus Snape, Head of Slytherin, has said that he has tried with Draco as well.

But the moment the two spy each other, hexes begin to fly and...well, that does not bode well for eventual victory over Voldemort.

Why I like this fic: Smut + Plot... really, is there anything better?

Summary: Written Pre-HBP. It’s been almost twenty years since Harry Potter graduated Hogwarts as the ‘Hero of the Wizarding World‘. It was near the end of his seventh year when he finally defeated Voldemort. The details of that battle can be found in any number of history books or in one of the hundreds of biographies about Harry’s Life, well at least the first twenty-five years of his life, nobody knows what happened to Harry the morning after his twenty-fifth birthday. But we are about to.
Why I like this fic: This fic is hot as hell. The smut (and boy, is there a lot of it) ranges to touching and sweet to just plain animalistic. There's also a raw aspect to the whole thing, which strengthens both the characters and the plot, adding a "Real" feeling to it. It's actually hard to put into words why I like this fic- it appeals to me on an instinctual level.
