Molly was glad to be getting back to work. For the last couple of days, her cough had been just bad enough to judge it safer that she not go near the patrons or the food. It wasn’t uncommon for her to pick up a cold when summer started to fade, but it was drattedly inconvenient. Lazing in bed was not something Molly did well. More than once, she had ducked out to go walk along the pond. Perhaps it wasn’t the best remedy, but it did lift her spirits. She had grown rather fond of that little stretch of water.
But now Molly was well again – not even a hint of a sore throat lingered. She made up for the missed chores with interest. The lunch crowd was fading and Molly had already swept through the pub multiple times, clearing away dishes. Those who remained chatted companionably. There was no particular conversation that had caught Molly’s attention, but she kept an ear out, just in case. Just a little bit longer, and she’d be off for the afternoon until dinner started up. She considered heading back down to the pond again once she was free. The water would distract her from her worries. She was starting to wonder if it had been such a good idea to send a letter by way of the Captain after all.
