Molly picked herself out of her reverie when she heard Bridget. They hadn’t talked much and Molly was still very uncertain of the child. She liked her – especially since the patrons told the best stories to Bridget and Molly wasn’t above listening in - but she didn’t know how she was supposed to talk to her.
“Why hello there, Miss Bridget,” said Molly returning title for title. The formality made her feel awkward but she smiled anyway. She didn’t at all mind referring to Bridget as ‘miss;’ it was the other way around that worried her. Rather than having the habit linger, Molly decided to try and change it. In a soft – and hopefully friendly – tone, Molly responded to the girl. “Bridget, you don’t have to add the miss – if you don’t want to. Just Molly is fine with me. It’s who I’ve been my whole life.” She punctuated the comment with a slight shrug of the shoulder.
