How to really piss of the Dominoinistas

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]cheap_laugh)

Wish them a "Happy Feast of the Circumcision this January 1st. That's right, folks, just count 8 days from Dec 25, and you get Jan 1. In Judaism, the 8th day after birth is the day infant boys are circumcised as a sign of the Covenant between God and Jew (one can also argue it as a form of menstral envy, but I digress...). Send them cards....

for your edification, Feast Days. This article goes on:

The circumcision took place, not in the Temple, though painters sometimes so represent it, but in some private house, where the Holy Family had found a rather late hospitality. The public ceremony in the synagogue, which is now the usage, was introduced later. Christmas was celebrated on 25 December, even in the ertrly centuries, at least by the Western Church, whence the date was soon adopted in the East also. (See CHRISTMAS). Saint Chrysostom credits the West with the tradition, and St. Augustine speaks of it as well and long estabblished. Consequently the Circumcision fell on the first of January. In the ages of paganism, however, the solemnization of the feast was almost impossible, on account of the orgies connected with the Saturnalian festivities, which were celebrated at the same time. Even in our own day the secular features of the opening of the New Year interfere with the religious observance of the Circumcision, and tend to make a mere holiday of that which should have the sacred character of a Holy Day.

Someone got nice and sarcastic in the Journal and Courier (Lafayette, IN) Letters to the Editor section today. Kudos to you, Mike Sloothaak.

The story of pi and intelligent design

I wish to congratulate House Speaker Brian Bosma and Indiana Republicans for pushing intelligent design in our state. This is a great act of Christian faith and responsibility.

But Indiana's Christians must challenge our representatives to even greater faith. 1 Kings 7:23 and 2 Chronicles 4:2 makes clear that what the Eastern liberal establishment, the American Civil Liberties Union and activist judges insist on calling "pi" is actually, simply 3. Do our Republicans in Indianapolis have the faith necessary to defy the liberals, embrace biblical truths and legislate that in Indiana "pi" will officially be equal to 3? Our great state will be blessed materially if we embrace that level of faith.

First, many technical calculations would be simplified, so science and engineering firms will flock to Indiana to do business, creating many new jobs. Second, our children will be spared the burden of memorizing a pagan Greek symbol in their mathematical formulas and can focus on other matters more fitting with the Christian values we so cherish.

God made ones, twos and threes, not pi, square roots and "e's." Even the mathematicians themselves doubt their own monstrous creations, or else why would they refer to the latter as irrational numbers?

Intelligent design is only the first step in a long journey to bring timeless biblical truths back to Indiana. Let's pray that a majority of our politicians are up to this task.

HUMOR: "Trading Spaces" Marguerite doll

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]iniswitryn)

I've seen references here to Fox's show "Trading Spouses," specifically the dominionist beliefs and fear-based nightmarish world of participant Marguerite Perrin. When I came across this doll on eBay (I have no affiliation with this auction, nor am I bidding on it), I thought the image might amuse some people here (although it might trigger others).

If this is an inappropriate post, will the community maintainers please delete it - I won't be offended. I'm just going for a little comic relief with it. :)

The Fundamentalist Agenda

PINKERTON - As the polls are coming in, it is obvious that pro-gay-rights candidates have won a majority of the seats on the town's school board.

"Well, it's about time," says voter Evelyn Gaylord, "I'm sick and tired of those Fundamentalist Christians and their Agenda." Mrs. Gaylord's sentiments seem to be shared by many of the voters in today's election.

It appears that the firebrand anti-Fundamentalist rhetoric of several of the candidates hit its mark among the voters. A good example of such rhetoric is from a statement issued by incumbent Simeon Kwir, "Thanks to Fundamentalist activists there are already Christian clubs in our schools. Next on their Agenda is school prayer. It's obvious who their target is: our children. The Fundamentalists are recruiting in schools and that has to stop!"Read more... )

Some amusement...

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]juno_domina)

I thought this letter to the Editor in "The Age" (Melbourne) might appeal:

Short and sweet

HERE is an even shorter version of the Bible than that condensed by John Crace ("The 378-word Bible, Opinion 26/9):

After Adam and Eve failed the temptation test, God made Jews his chosen people. As a result, they became paranoid overachievers until Jesus came in to provide non-competitive, huge-gain-for-little-pain equal opportunity for all. Whether being superior was better than just being good posed a problem at polls throughout the ages. After much soul-searching, leaders seeking re-election reached a brilliant compromise. They simply wed Superiority by Birthright to Equal Opportunity. This auspicious marriage led to the modern practice of pre-emptive strikes in the name of both the Father and the Son forever and ever. Amen.
Piri White, Brighton

I wish I had the John Crace one.
