I know it's been a while since I last posted a prompt (and even longer since someone actually commented with an icon), but is anyone still interested in this asylum?

If there's still any kind of interest, I would start with posting prompts again. Addtionally, if anyone already has a claim that they want to continue, I'd be happy to see about extending any claim!

It's been a while since the more active days of this asylum and several claims are past their due dates... Before simply deleting them, I figured I'd ask if what everyone wants to do with them!

Do any of you want me to extend them? Do any of you to simply start over? Or do you want to drop them?

Since nobody complained about the idea with daily prompts, I've thought about some rules today at work. I will put up a FAQ/Rules post shortly (followed by Sign Ups, Hall of Fame and the first prompt) so we can get this started.

I've mixed and matched the rules a bit and I hope you all will enjoy the set up! Any questions and comments can be posted to the FAQ/Rules post and it might reflect in how this asylum is run :)

I just figured I'd post this as an official divider between the 20in20 style we had so far and the new setup :D

With me starting my first job in February (3 1/2 hours from my parents where I primarily lived in the beginning) and trying to find a place to stay and dani_meows being brought down with health and rl issues this community has become rather dead.

On top of the low turn outs from previous rounds.

This makes me think that it might be time to do something different with this community again. dani_meows and I did discuss this shortly at one point this year, but neither of us really got around to it.

One suggestion was to give out a given number of tables and allow everybody to submit as many sets as they would like (with or without an official sign up) and every other month or so, a voting will be held for any sets submitted since the last voting.

The main problem I see is that the icon makers interest in contests seems to be running a bit low on Insanejournal right now (or well, late last year, early this year at least).

For now, I went over the last couple of posts in a bid to figure out what was still open from previous rounds:

What kind of contest would you like to see?

What kind of claims would like?

What kind of time frame would you prefer for the round cycle (e.g. 20in20 is monthly since prompts are (suppsod to) always posted on the first)

Should claims still be limited to fandom or broadened to include everything (e.g. nature, cities, food)?

The "small table" in the first question refers to 20 icons in comparison to those 50icons or 100icons communities/ the larger icons option above.

*I've seen a fandom365 community on Livejournal where you're given a prompt a day and you have to finish 100 icons in 365 days using the prompts (with 2 days time in which you can submit an icon for a prompt). They allow a rather wide array of sign ups from specific characters, general shows/movies to pairings or anything else in between.

I hope this community can be brought to life one more time like it did as it was turned from the icon contest it originally was to the 20in20 contest.

I thought I would have time to get something done in the last week, but apparently that didn't happen. And it appears I wasn't the only one.

So, I've though of two solutions:

1) I close this round with no submissions
2) I extend this round until 20th December, effectively making this the December Round instead of posting a new one.
2a) Giving the option of second category set with Christmas/Winter Holiday/Winter as the theme
2b) Open up for a second claim for this (double) round.

Since it's about 1am now, I won't be getting to the voting today. I will do that tomorrow.

Only dani_meows' set is still missing (unless I remember incorrectly).

For the last our or so, I adjusted the tags slightly. They're not fandom specific any more, but differ
• by claim (movie, tv show, character, character group and episode - I probably should split the tv show into tv show and season though)
• by genre (I hope I got all of the genre's right - if not, please leave a comment here with a link)

I just need to delete the tags without posts now. I hope this will make the tagging a bit easier to navigate :)

I hope to have the Round 9 banners out tomorrow as well as Round 10 and Round 11 results (and possibly the banners, depending on how much time I have).

Aside from that, you have 6 days left to enter Round 12! It's a free for all round where you don't have to sign up and can pick out of various sets of prompts as long as you do at least 2 theme sets, 1 category set and 1 ac set to complete 20 icons!!

I'm sorry for being absent since February and leaving everything reasting on dani_meows' shoulders who was kept busy as well... and some things just seemed to slide into forgetfulness or under the assumption of having been done already. (Not that I'm any better at remembering this things on occasion...) - She did do a wonderful job of keeping things running and even gaining a few more participants...

However, while deciding to do the Participation Banners for Round 11 I started to wonder how up to date the banners are and ended up making a check list for anything that is outstanding.

Busy Dani is busy!

So, the time between Christmas and New Years Day was busier than I thought it would be, so I'm once again a bit behind.

However, I will see about catching up tomorrow (it's too late today and I'm about to head to bed) and post the voting for Round 7 (please take this as your last minute reminder!), a tie breaker for the Round 6 tie breaker and sign ups for Round 8.

I will also see about what kind of banners are still missing. So hopefully there will be some of those as well tomorrow.

Sorry for my long absence, but things didn't go as planned. For once, I didn't have time at all while on vacation to do much of anything on the computer. I was too beat on Saturday to catch up online and Sunday was busy with first getting everything ready and then my birthday party.

To my utter displeasure I woke up sick on Monday which left me lethargic, grumpy and cranky - all of which didn't help to motivate me for more than reading (out of boredom).

I will see about updating the claims list (and replying to comments here and elsewhere) right now.

I've also checked some communities on LJ for name ideas and eventually I ended up checking out the term "fandom" on wiki and found that it's actually not just bound to the limited areas that I thought they did, but is simply "used to refer to a subculture composed of fans characterized by a feeling of sympathy and camaraderie with others who share a common interest" (source). So I'll rename this asylum to "fandom20in20" today.

And since I also neglected to announce it:

dani_meows has accepted the position as co-mod to help with reminders, tagging and so on and keep things moving in my absence. I think she did a real good job in the last 11 days! :)

I've decided to rename this asylum to be more fitting for it's new purpose. Since I can't quite decided which name to pick I'm opening up the floor for suggestions.

My own ideas so far:

fandom20in20
icon20in20

My thoughts on these two names are that I love the sound of "fandom20in20", but I fear it might imply a stronger limitation than there actually is (e.g. people are also open to pick singers, athletes and so on... possibly even Stock and other things I've never thought about) which would be more visible in "icon20in20".

So, does anybody have ideas, opinions or what not about a new name?

Aside from that, I'll have the sign ups for the next round up shortly and I'll be working on making banners for the winners of Round 1 as well as Participation banners (and cleaning up the tags a bit)

As the last two round showed so far, I'm a bit scatter minded about posting things on time. And reminders tend to fall especially flat.

So, I've decided to look for a co-mod who can help to keep things on track.

Aside from that:
I will post results for Round 1 tomorrow. Even though there was still a tie for one tie-breaker the last time I checked (and I'm not that confident that it's been broken by now courtesy of my lack of reminders).
I will also post the voting for Round 2 tomorrow and sign ups for Round 3.

However:
I will be gone from 10th to 14th August and new prompts should be posted on the 11th.
Which way would you prefer it: Posting it early on the 10th (due on the 30th instead of the 31st as last day of the month) or later with the time "extended" until early September?

As for results for the first round... so far only 5 people have voted and I'd prefer to close voting with a couple of more votes to make it fairer.

Sorry for being this late with putting the voting up. I have a presentation due on Monday and an XML project on Tuesday - the latter of which is giving me problems left and right with seemingly correct code not working. Which in turn made me not want to see and do any more coding.

So, since I got a positive response to my idea of turning this asylum into a 20in20 challenge, I'll be setting things up tonight. There is only one thing left: How busy is everyone?

I've decided that timing wise, challenges will end at the end of the months, meaning that prompts are posted on the 10th/11th (depending on how many days the months has ;) ). So do you want to get prompts on April 10 (ending April 30) or May 11 (May 31)?

Regardless of the ending day, I will open claiming tomorrow at the latest (since I've been thinking of retiring early due to a slight headache).

So, I've been gone for a long time and even now I'm only doing two things quite regularly on IJ or LJ and that is entering one lims and modding a Torchwood Challenge on LJ. I think that I'm ready to start something up again.

However, I haven't watched a lot of TV outside of Doctor Who/Torchwood, Skins and occasionally an episode I zapped into when thought my brain was up to it (rarely though) in close to a year actually. As such, I don't really feel like picking movies or TV Shows and finding images for it.

On the other hand, I've been wanting to try my hand at a 20in20 challenge (starwars20in20 @LJ,hp2in20 @LJ, scifipair20in20 @LJ) as I've come to enjoy them a lot. As such, I considered converting this asylum into a 20in20 challenge open to all fandoms and for general things, episodes, characters, pairings or whatever people might want to claim. It would give everybody the chance to icon what they want while I don't have to hope that my choice will be well liked by enough people.

Would anybody be interested in that type of contest?
