CONTROVERSIAL MARRIAGE LEGISLATION PASSED BY WIZENGAMOT
Bill approved by an overwhelming majority
DP London - Albert Umquat
LONDON - In a startling move by the Wizengamot Council this afternoon, all but two members voted in favour of passing the controversial marriage bill announced by the Ministry for Magic last week. The bill stipulates that, not only does the Ministry have the authority to review all magical marriages made since 1970, but to regulate all bids for marriage made after the legislation has been made final. Minister for Magic, Rodolphus Lestrange, was unavailable for comment, but the Minister's press secretary, Sylvester Quilt, released the following statement:
...article continued pg A3"Minister Lestrange and his cabinet are, of course, pleased by the Wizengamot's decision and wholly support the implementation of this legislation. The Minister's office feels that the bill will serve to support and ultimately protect the wizarding community by ensuring that the Statute of Secrecy is being upheld in all magical unions, and that all marriages in the last decade have been made in good faith."
MARRIAGE BILL TO BE PUT BEFORE WIZENGAMOT
Hortense Wallace - DP London
London - A controversial proposal to regulate marriages in the wizarding world is to be put before the Wizengamot early next week. Should the bill pass, unions made after 1970 will be reevaluated to ensure that they were made in "good faith," and all marriages thereafter will have to apply for government approval. This will include marriages between magical peoples and muggles, which, the bill stipulates, will aid in ensuring that Statute of Secrecy prohibitions are being upheld, and that in the event of the death of the magical partner, the muggle parter will legally recognized in the execution of wills. Few other details were made available at the present--the bill in its entirety will be attainable through the Ministry of Magic as early as Monday morning.

HOGSMEADE VILLAGE DESTROYED BY DEATH EATERS
Caldwalder Bruin - DP London
HOGSMEADE - More than fifty bodies of dead villagers have been recovered in the aftermath of a brutal and unprovoked attack on Hogsmeade village in Scotland by Death Eaters early yesterday evening. According to witnesses, the attack began shortly after seven o'clock with a siege on the high street--beginning with the Hog's Head Pub--in which most businesses were destroyed structurally or burned down. Death Eaters additionally placed anti-apparation wards on the village, trapping it's inhabitants. Many of those who witnessed the attack say that civilians fought against You Know Who's followers, but were unsuccessful in their attempts to drive them away. No one has yet recounted what ended the siege, and by the time the Department of Magical Law Enforcement arrived on scene, both the Death Eaters and now-dubbed 'civilian heroes' had disappeared, leaving nothing behind but blood and rubble. Ashwyn Tripplehorn - DP London
LONDON - Leader of the Society for the Promotion of Muggleborn Welfare, Hortense Clay, caused a commotion in Diagon Alley early this morning by holding a unscheduled protest of new legislation passed yesterday by the Ministry of Magic. The young woman accosted early morning shoppers with pamphlets as she announced the "dangers" of the bill, which she described numerous times as the "beginning of the end." She was taken into custody by Ministry officials after she began putting up posters on the outside of businesses that attempted to slander Minister for Magic Rodolphus Lestrange. ( continued... )
