He and Storm were over. And it was all Hank's fault. Not directly, Logan figured that was mostly Storm's doing. But through his actions and inaction, Hank had made this whole situation crumble to what it had become - and he had brought this plague down on the school. Where children lived. The blue man had said he could control it - and the others like him. He had taken responsibility. Now what had happened? In the grand scheme of things, Logan supposed this was the tip of the iceberg, but it personally chapped his ass. Hank had been the smartest guy he knew, save Xavier. So when it came time to finding someone to scream at about talk to about his frustrations, he found himself hard pressed. Storm obviously was out of the question, seeing as she was Kurt's now, and expecting... Jesus. After a few days of warm beer and cold showers (oh, and killing things. Cute, woodlandy-things), the Wolverine had finally decided to go and speak with the woman he'd been avoiding for nearly a year.

Now, Logan sat perched on the corner of Jean's desk, and he made no attempt to hide his emotions from the telepath. He seethed with anger, about the situation with Storm, and felt nothing but contempt for Beast. "We need to find out what Beast has been doing every day. It isn't right. I've smelled him when he slinks in after dark sometimes... he doesn't smell like that synthetic crap that goes in everyone elses' bottles. He smells like humans." Beast had been spending a ton of time with Emma, and even more time with Xavier - in private. And no one had heard yet what was being exchanged. Logan wanted answers. None of this felt right.

Dr. Grey-Summers shifted uncomfortably in her seat and crossed her legs, while her fellow X-Man perched himself on the edge of her desk. She could feel Logan's anger and frustration rolling off him like a current; it was so palpable, she could almost taste it.

Logan was right in thinking nothing felt right, because nothing did feel right. Jean had felt a sudden shift in the atmosphere, as well as in the mood of the Institute's residents in general. It wasn't something that'd go easily unnoticed there, and for those who were psychically or emotionally sensitive, it was even more apparent that something was amiss. And since Jean was one of the most power psychics within these walls, she felt it more than most. Unfortunately, what with her being preoccupied with finding yet another cure, there wasn't really much time left for her to pursue other endeavors. As such, her hands were tied.

Jean watched Logan for a few moments in a contemplative silence; one that suggested she was taking in his words and mulling them over. Something was terribly wrong. Beast was not acting like his usual, charming self. He had become moodier and more secretive... and even elusive to the point where it made her wonder what he was doing with all of that free-time spent away from the lab. There were times when she really wanted to pry (psyhically), but even if she wanted to, the Upir Virus gave those who were infected with it a leg up on telepathic intrusion. While Jean was undoubtedly very powerful, it would be time-consuming and time was something she could scarcely afford to waste.

However, after hearing what Logan had to say on the matter, it made her want to take the time to look a bit deeper into the situation.

"And you think he's been off hunting humans after dark?" Jean concluded. Obviously that was what he had been alluding to. 'He smells like humans' could only mean one thing - or several, depending how one looked at it. Logan was upset with Dr. McCoy. He was also upset about situation with Storm, Nightcrawler and the baby-to-be. Perhaps he was just trying to find an antagonist to keep his mind clear? Yes, Wolverine was definitely the type of person who could find clarity in anger. It was a pretty cut and dry emotion.

"I dunno," Logan began, frustrated. He moved from where he was leaning and turned to face her, then. His hand reached down idly and began fiddling with a trinket that had been on her desk. He took it in hand and looked back into her eyes. "Probably." Or something. But Beast definitely smelled like humans. He gave a heavy sigh and his eyes shifted from Jean's down to her exposed collarbones. Wolverine lowered his gaze, following his hand's motion as it returned the knick-knack back to its resting place. "I'm surprised he hasn't told you, Jeannie," the other feral mutant had never hid his own fondness for the redhead. Logan smirked a bit before adding, "It'd be hard not to." He suspected Jean had had a long life of people telling her their secrets and confessing things to her. Her eyes had that 'I'll never tell' quality that made you want to open up to the Phoenix. Or, at least, it made Logan want to open up to the Phoenix. Jesus, her hair was striking against the dullness of the office walls. She was striking. His smirk faded a bit and another sigh escaped, this time through his nose. "I just know I don't like it."

"You haven't smelled any blood on him at all?" Jean pressed on, watching him as he fiddled with one of the few knickknacks she chose to keep on her desk for decoration (or for means of distraction). She just wanted to piece all of the pieces of this puzzle together or at least attempt to, anyway. However this, in itself, wasn't much to go on. If Logan had gotten a whiff of human fluids on Beast's person, that would've been all the proof she'd need to confront her fellow doctor on the matter. Be that as it may, Logan had only said he smelled of humans, which could've meant Beast was helping them, maybe?

No. That really didn't make much sense either, because if he was out, spending his nights going to the aide of others - why hide it? Something fishy was definitely going on here, but they'd need to find more evidence of any wrong-doing on Dr. McCoy's part before they could do anything. Innocent until proven guilty and all that jazz.

A small smile broke out across her face at Logan's following word. The sentiment was greatly appreciated. "Yes, but ever since," she began, but she abruptly cut herself off. There was no sense divulging into the past right now. Jean cleared her throat and continued, "Maybe so, but he's been infected with a disease that fundamentally alters a person's personality, as well as their behavior in general."

Popular theory was that if a person's will-power was strong enough, their personality might've remained just as it had been pre-infection. But that was all hearsay until they had further proof of this. Every single one of the people who had been infected had changed, albeit in different ways.

"If it makes you feel any better, I don't like it either," she admitted to him, the smile on her face fading somewhat. "But I will try to get to the bottom of this." Jean decided she'd try talking to the Professor first. If anyone knew anything about what Beast was up to, it would be him.

"I've smelled plenty of blood on him. Hell, it's strong enough that you should smell it on him." Logan almost smirked here after thinking 'human blood must be hard to get out of fur'. Someone else lurking around who had a smell like Hank's (less blood, more humans) was Emma. However, Logan intended to leave that part out, verbally. He knew the women weren't fans of each other and was in no mood to have to kill one of them - again. He had a feeling that if push came to shove, things would go sudden death between the Phoenix and Diamond.

Ironically, Jean's thoughts seemed to be traveling the same course - cue the awkward silence. 'Ever since...' Yeah, he knew. People were weird around her. Himself included.

Still, Jean's concurrence finally did make him smirk. Having Jean on your side was never a bad thing, eh? Though, by the time she'd finished speaking, he was a bit frustrated again. 'Get to the bottom of this' usually meant 'ask the Professor'. Well, Logan knew the man had to have some secrets in his desk drawers or behind the panels of Cerebro. Something didn't jive right between the Professor and his troupe of brainiacs. And Logan wanted to know what they were up to. "I'd go to the source."

Well, she certainly hadn't smelled anything on Hank that would've sent up a little red flag. But Dr. McCoy wasn't likely to come to work smelling of freshly spilled blood, now was he? He would've taken special care to clean up - not only to cover up his own tracks, but because it wouldn't exactly sanitary in a medlab environment. He seemed dedicated enough to find a cure for this disease after all, and even though she could certainly see the appeal in something that would increase basically every physical and genetically enhanced attribute about yourself, Beast didn't strike her as power-hungry.

.... of course, that all could've changed the moment he had been turned.

Whatever was going on with him ran deep. Much deeper than Logan probably thought, anyway. He was angry and wanted a reason a lash out at Beast. He wanted an excuse to go after him and if he had been out, hunting humans as they expected, that was almost reason for her to let him act on it. Almost. But Hank was a friend and someone she wanted to trust. She'd do this the old-fashioned way first before she'd allow violence to be added to the equation.

"I think I'll do that," she said, nodding her agreement. "Until I do that, try not to let your emotions get the better of you." She knew that was a lot to ask of Wolverine, but she was looking at him to set an example for the those who might be looking for an excuse to further alienate or attack those infected with the Upir Virus. She'd also prefer to not encourage those who were actually infected with the disease to revert to or continue isolating themselves, or to think they had to flee the mansion.
