Who: Blindfold OT Wisdom, other Excalibur Members, & Storm
When: Evening, Dec 18
Where: Starts in the Haven Library, moves to Wisdom's room, then to Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.
What: Ruth foresees an imminent return and goes to tell her boss about it.
Ruth was settled in a chair in the Haven library, shuffling her Tarot cards in nervous hands. She hadn't spoken to anyone about the catastrophe she foretold for Charlotte or the fact Charlotte was now dead and Ruth knew it. Keeping her mouth shut was second nature when it came to things like this because the truth was, knowledge rarely made others happy. In fact, knowing tended to lead to more unhappiness than being oblivious. For now, she was willing to accept that this burden was hers to bear. This of course included the knowledge of Charlotte's killer's identity. There was nothing to say there either.
The cards felt smooth, worn, and warm against her hands from the constant movement. Focusing on them made it easier to get out of her own head. However, she couldn't shake the feeling of anticipation. The cards were waiting for something. Ruth was waiting for something. The question, as always, was what? A sign from above she should approach Wisdom with the information regarding his pet? A sign she should get out of the house again, the last time she got out she'd gotten a cup of coffee and a vision of death. Not exactly conducive to wanting to go out again.
Then of course there was Charlotte's question about there being a somebody in Ruth's life...there was nobody. Sometimes she wasn't even sure of her placement amongst her own teammates. Jamie was a sweet guy, well most of the hims were. Wisdom was great, when he wasn't under so much stress he behaved like a two year old having a tantrum. Shy didn't talk, which Ruth actually found refreshing. He didn't want to carry on a conversation, she most of the time couldn't say half of what she thought. Win-win. Counterfeit was dealing with emotional problems, which Ruth fully understood but didn't want any part of. Her own memories of what it was like to be held captive and treated like something imminently disposable were far too clear and ever-present. Not a topic she wanted to talk about.
The first card settled on the arm of the chair without her truly thinking about it. Ruth knew what it was by feel: The Queen of Wands. A strong female presence, powerful, regal, confident, and deeply connected to nature. Ruth slowed her movements, concentrating as her fingers flipped the cards through practiced motions. Two minutes later, the Five of Cups settled on top of the Queen of Wands, the card turned upside down. A relationship returned. A strong female presence returns to relationships surrounding them.
"Ah," she murmured to herself. "So she returns to us."
Ruth continued to shuffle, letting the cards focus her thoughts. The sound of water, rushing heavily, captured her attention. "A north waterfall."
For another five minutes, she simply sat. The cards were still in her hands. Nothing more came, so she put them back in order, one card at a time before getting up from the chair. Wisdom was going to want to hear this one. There was no way she could make the run to Niagara Falls by herself.
Slipping the cards into the pocket of her nearly everpresent trench, she moved through the house until she was knocking on Wisdom's door.
"Wisdom, ya need ta get up an' get dressed, Boss. Ya're goin' ta Canada."
She didn't know if he wasn't dressed or not, but she knew he was inside. They needed to go if they were going to get there before things got ugly.
