Okay guys, on the eve of THE MOTHERFUCKING FINAL, it has vaguely crossed my mind that o hai the purpose of our little community is almost at an end. Insert hugs and sniffles at the idea of not stalking the national teams anymore here, but that's for another post. The question I have is a little more maintainer-related: do you feel like worldjockstrap should go dormant once the World Cup ends or should we let this place be a repository for various and sundry soccer flail? On one hand: this community is p. lulzy as is, so who cares about staying on topic? On the other hand: ummm people may not give a fuck about soccer outside of the WC. I DON'T KNOW, I'M JUST CURIOUS. That and maybe we could start researching fun leagues to look into after the WC is done. Bundesliga, anyone?
... so I was going to try to post a poll but I'm not Lindsey. :( So you know, just say whether you'd be interested in moar blathering after tomorrow or if WJS should quietly and majestically ride off into the sunset until Brazil 2014 in comments! TY ILU XOXO. |

I thought I'd be more bummed than I am, but the fact is we still get to see them play again on Saturday (complete with Müller) and I'm so proud of my German bbs for making it as far as they did with as many set-backs as they had and still, even after a string of amazing games, not going into Spain as the favorites. There's the Euro 2012 and World Cup 2014, because if a European team can win on non-European soil for the first time this round, we can give them a good run for their money next time, AM I RITE? I feel good about this because it confirms (for me) they're still a team you can love just as much even when they lose. To think I went into this favoring them because they dressed up like jungle animals. And Klose still has a record to break and Müller a Golden Boot to win.
if this makes no sense kiss my ass i'm drunk and at least the words are spelled properly |

DANIEL BRÜHL WATCHES GERMANY VS. ARGENTINA IN A PARIS BAR, NO ONE ELSE CARES BUT I POST IT ANYWAY
Thanks to Marie for the link because I had not seen it before :* highlights: saying after the win that he wishes he was in Berlin to celebrate because all the girls want to fuck.
ETA: Why We Should Root for Germany
I love this German team, which is sinuous and brilliant and fluid and youthful. Deutschland uber alles has morphed into Deutchland-including-alles: Özil is from Turkey, Klose and Podolski are from Poland, Cacau (they call him Hans, of course) from Brazil, Boateng is half-Ghanaian. But fear not, they still have men in their midst called Bastian Schweinsteiger, a central casting Teuton name that would, in previous years, have provoked titters and sniggers, but now passes unnoticed by fans who care only about his bustling, cerebral, muscular brand of German football-engineering. What’s more—and what is most refreshing in this Man’s Game played by so many cheating wusses—the Germans don’t dive or whine or cup their hands before their faces in aggressive supplication each time referee calls a foul on them. They are clean, unclouded spirits, with a simple, refreshing narrative of playing and scoring, of winning without adornment, but with an abundance of style. - moar

Fun discoveries: you can watch Deutschland. Ein Sommermärchen on Youtube in its entirety. AFAIK there are no subtitles, but if you know even a little bit of German you can kind of sort of follow. Synopsis: "A documentary on the German national team's World Cup 2006 journey, all the way from boot camp in Sardinia to the 3rd-place play-off."

Friday sees the beginning of the dreams of entire nations being crushed at a slower pace, although what the fuck do we care when a lot of us already had ours crushed. Nevertheless. Same routine: vote for who you'd like to see advance, not who you actually predict will win it.

Guys, I went to Dick's today and saw a Germany jersey (?! it looked like the jersey in the front but didn't have anybody on the back, anyway) for $40. Wanted it so bad. Could not get. Thought of Lindsey 99.9% of the time.
