December 26, 1997
Characters: Megan Jones & hottieViktor Krum
Setting: December 26, 1997, Hogwarts Infirmary, 1:30pm-ish
Status: Incomplete!
Summary: Megan is counting the minutes before she can leave the infirmary when an unexpected visitor stops by.

Saturday! Megan usually loved Saturdays. However, this particular Saturday would likely be her favourite Saturday for the rest of the year. After almost two weeks of being in the infirmary following her quidditch injuries Madam Pomfrey was finally letting her out of the place. It was all sorts of exciting considering she'd been spending most of her days stalking the journals, staring out the window, and teaching herself how to cast basic charms with her less dominate left hand. That is, when her mates and family weren't visiting. Course...when she was alone...the hours seemed to drag on so slow!

Now, though, they were going even slower. She was trying her best to pass the time until three o'clock. It'd been decided that after she'd taken her last dose of the five potions she'd been on for the last week she'd be able to skedaddle off with only a single dose to follow up on. Which was important to the Hufflepuff since she felt as though she'd missed some of the Hogwarts Holiday festivities yesterday. Though she had been surrounded by family and friends for most of Christmas Day she would have killed to have been able to run down the halls yelling Christmas cheers and laying about in the snow outside. But...she didn't. And she'd already planned on doing at least some of that stuff once the infirmary queen allowed for it.

As she browsed the pages of her journal she glanced up at the clock hanging on the wall. It was only 1:30! She let out a slight groan as she looked back at her journal. She'd definitely found herself learning a great deal more about the people that wrote it in than she would have liked. And she certainly wouldn't mind putting it aside for the next ... year. As she turned the page to another entry about someone's motherly duty and holiday blind dates the sound of the infirmary door drew Megan's attention almost instantly. She'd hoped it was Pomfrey coming to relieve her sooner than promised. But no...it was someone entirely different.

"Hullo..." she offered curiously to herself with a slight grin on her features that couldn't be masked in the slightest.

Megan was still in a state of shock that Viktor Krum of all the people in the world ... was sitting on her hospital bed...giving her present. Though she was brought back to reality very slowly as she explained why he was there instead of...elsewhere with family and friends...she was still in some disbelief about all of it. Course, she hadn't meant to be rude. It was just... this entire situation was all so surreal.

Smiling at him she shook her head slightly as she scratched behind her ear out of nervous habit. Letting out an uncomfortable chuckle she said, "I'm not easily overwhelmed to be honest. I just don't know what to say. I mean...you're you, for one!" She gestured her uninjured arm to accentuate his fame. "And...I don't know if you know this, but...you're pretty famous, Mr. Krum. I mean...Viktor."

Chuckling slightly her eyes fell toward the bag he had in his lap. Without pausing she continued, "Though... you did call me Katie." She nodded as she remembered the short lived journal conversation. "And I'm going to stop talking now because...I would definitely like to know what else you've brought."

Viktor felt his face flush slightly and he started to make a small face of embarrassment, "Well, yes. I did call you that, didn't I? I don't know for the life of me what I was thinking, but I guess I'm glad I made the mistake?"

His tone was hesitant and then he shook his head, "I'm glad to be here, really Megan," he said, emphasising her name, "And honestly, that fame is fairly fading I'm afraid," he said, stopping slightly at his alliteration. He flashed a bright smile at her, and began to pull out a few things he had in his bag. A jersey with his name came out, as well as gloves that he favored (new in the wrapping). He'd popped round the Quidditch shop and bought the stuff himself, and it had been an exercise in slight embarrassment as the shop keeper had rung up the items, all about Viktor Krum, being purchased by Viktor Krum. He'd left most of this merchandise at the family home.

Out came a little bobble headed doll, a banner, a toy Quidditch player that would wind up and fly about the room, a bag of poppers that exploded into the Bulgarian team colors and a t-shirt, emblazoned with a moving image of Viktor Krum.

He handed her the items one by one, and found himself turning slightly pink.

"If you want me to sign these for you, I will of course," and he settled himself a bit in the chair, letting out a small sigh, "I had no idea there was still so much interest in me and my career. The shop was brimming with items. I hope these are acceptable," and he sat up and leaned forward, and pointed at the gloves, "I really do prefer these. You will have to tell me how they work for you."

It was seriously a never ending shower of quidditch Krum goodies. Unfortunately, for Viktor...the more that was in the bag the more Megan was trying to keep from laughing at him. This was all a bit excessive and the fact that majority of the stuff was Viktor Krum related was...a bit ridiculous. The gloves though....they were the nicest bloody things she'd ever seen. And no offense to Summers and his ridiculously expensive Quidditch gear gift....but these were going on her hands when she could manage them! No question about it!

"Definitely," Megan replied with a nod as she placed the gloves in her lap and stroked the leather. "Thank you so much for all of this. I think I might possibly have the most Viktor Krum merch out of anyone in my dorm at least." She offered him a chuckle. "When I'm out of here I'll be sure to get you something in return," she suggested in all seriousness. "Tell, me, what does Viktor Krum like that can be wrapped in a parcel and sent by owl, hm?"

Viktor grinned her obvious humor, taking her amusement as a good sign. He'd hoped to cheer her up, and it seemed he had been successful, even if it felt at his own expense.

Viktor took the bag and emptied it, adding, "That's the lot I'm afrid," and he paused, leaning back to get comfortable in the chair as h thought about hert question.

"In a bag for me? Well, that's abit tricky. Hours to spend on my broom? My mum's deer stew? A fresh powder snow fall? Do you know the kind I mean? So wet, it sticks to you in large fat flakes? I like hot chocolate, warm fires, and good socks."

He could think of many other things but they were not so tangible and easy to explain. He smiled at her, "You need not trouble yourself Megan, really."

"No, no," she replied with a smile. Straightening her posture she offered a shrug. "You're getting socks and hot chocolate mix...it's been decided."

While Megan was more than aware that those two things weren't anywhere near as fascinating as some of the stuff he listed... they were the most accessible to be entirely honest. And whether he liked it or not...she was quite certain she'd have to get him some toe-socks. Just because. Not that...she'd spoil the surprise or anything.

Viktor chuckled, "So socks it will be? Well, I will look forward to them, of course. But let's here the list of aliments. How injured are you, at the present? Do you have a projected time of healing required?" He was relaxed in his tone, and kept his eyes on her face, his full attention on her and not on the items in her lap. She was pretty, even in this hospital wing, and he wondered where her friends were, to come and visit her. It was not good to be too alone in a hospital wing; it gave one far too much time to brood.

Megan wasn't exactly comfortable with the full on eye contact. One because she couldn't rival it with someone as attractive or as famous as Viktor Krum, and two... his staring made her feel incredibly self-conscious.

"Well..." she started taking her good hand and placing it on the top of her head. "I fractured my skull pretty good. So much so, i was unconcious for four days and Pomfrey wasn't letting me move around until about three days ago - still got some bruising behind the ears." Her hand touched the back of her ear as she turned her head as if displaying for him to see.

Looking over at him she continued. "Lets see...I landed on my right shoulder, tore some ligaments there and broke the collar bone on that side as well." Looking down at her splinted arm she rattled on. "The wrist isn't so hot either - had some gnarly bones protruding from what I was told." With a grin she sighed slightly and added onto the list, "I also broke my pinky and ring finger." She wiggled the splinted fingers in demonstration.

"Not so terrible, right?" she said with a shrug and a grin. "Pomfrey's putting me on an all healing pain-reliever after my last dose of the skull healing concoction. I get to get out of here at three o'clock." She said proudly as if it were an accomplishment.

Viktor listened to her list of injuries, and his expression changed as he became more and more concerned.

"And she is going to let you out of here?! That soon? And you will not be climbing onto a broom any time soon, correct? I must ask," and he was sitting up straighter now, letting his eyes shift to her splinted finger as he spoke, "I was injured, rather badly, and I was bull headed and went out to practice the very moment I was released from hospital."

He sighed, biting at his lower lip, thinking about how brash and invincible he had felt. It had all changed so quickly. One minute he was free again, and then the next, he was waking up in a hospital bed, days later as she had, and told to forget the rest of the season. He glanced up at her, "It was not a good decision I made. And if one could take back poor choices, oh how I wish I had stayed inside the two weeks that was suggested to me. Please, Megan, be careful. I know I am not a person of great consequence," he said, raising a hand at any potential protests, "As I am not your parent or your friend, but make me a friend, and heed my advice, please. I would save you the pain I have endured these last months, denied of the sport I have lived for most of my life."

He thought he sounded a bit preaching, but his heart was sincere, and he hoped she would listen.

Megan's face had contorted slightly the more Viktor urged her to quit. He sounded like a mix of Pomfrey and her mother. Though she caught on to his being concerned she was slightly insulted that he obviously thought that she was completely stupid. Which she ...was not, thank you very much.

"Don't worry about it," Megan nodded her tone less playful despite her forced smile. "I appreciate your concern, Viktor...but...I'm not stupid. Plus, my folks would probably break my legs if I got on a broom before I could even pick up a wand with the proper hand."

"Wait a minute," she quickly interrupted. "Denied from quidditch how?"

Viktor felt his heart drop as he noted her slight displeasure and the strained smile on her face. He leaned back, and shook his head, and looked away from her, embarrassed at how he had just sound. She was not his sibling; he barely knew this girl and he'd overstepped his boundaries of propriety, telling her things that were best left to her friends and family to say to her. And it made him disappointed slightly in himself; was this how he would react to people now? Fearful that they would hurt themselves as he had done to himself? It was an odd turn of events for him, to go from a seemingly apathetic man to someone who worried like a damn hen?

"Excuse me please, Megan. I did not....I am sorry. I only wish someone had sat me down and told me what could have happened if I hadn't listened," and he paused, "I did not mean to offend you, Megan. I certainly do not think you are stupid. Excuse me," he said, feeling badly that he had irritated her, "I have hardly made my visit a pleasant one. If you wish me to leave, I will of course."

At her last comment, he paused, "I cannot fly professionally for at least one year, perhaps more. Perhaps never."

His tone was formal; the news was devastating when he'd originally heard it. To repeat it someone else, the words still sounded hollow and empty in his own ears.
