Who: Alfie and Julien
What: Talking, Hiding, Ignoring Work
Where: On the grounds
When: Sunday, After lunch
Warnings: TBA

Alfie was actually a little surprised that Julien had let himself be talked in to spending an afternoon not doing anything, but Julien had agreed to meet him, so after lunch he came out into the main hall and looked around for him. When he saw him, he grinned, coming up to bump his arm, and then saying hello quickly before he started out toward the main doors and onto the grounds.

He walked fast, he didn't really want to give Julien time to change his mind.

"I think you'll like this as much as the daydreams, you know?" He said as he walked, heading toward the small hut that used to be Hagrid's there on the edge of the Forbidden Forest. "When you're all full from lunch, and have hours just in the warm sun to lay around with nothing else to do?" Granted, he tended to do that same thing a lot more than was probably good for him, and his grades always suffered, but spending time just relaxing with friends was more important, at least to Alfie. Especially after the weird week he'd had before.

"Well it's not like I go inside or anything..." Alfie grinned at him over his shoulder, and started down the little knoll behind the groundskeeper's hut, toward the tree line. "Just into the first line of trees. And nothing's ever happened to me."

"Yet, Alfie, nothing's happened to you yet." Julien pointed out somewhat pessimistically, but then that was his way. He followed Alfie on regardless though, even if he did make sure he knew that his wand was in quick reach.

Alfie rolled his eyes and said, "I'm not worried about it," but then he shrugged and gave Julien what he hoped was a reassuring look as they got closer to the first trees at the edge of the forest. "If something comes up, I'll protect you?"

Julien eyed the trees nervously but then gave Alfie a slightly doubting look at his vow. "Thanks..." he said, hesitant but trying to sound grateful. "And I'll... protect you back." he added, looking into the trees again and wondering if anything man-eating coming out of that would want to go for him rather than the more delicious looking Alfie.

Alfie grinned an honest, wide sort of grin, and true to his word he sat down on the wet grass just the other side of the first row of trees. They made a dark sort of canopy, but birds were singing and sun was shining in through the leaves still. Just at the edge of the forest in the middle of the day, there wasn't anything foreboding.

He patted the patch of grass next to himself, and leaned his back against the large tree. "Come on, it's fine."

Julien gingerly took a seat next to Alfie, feeling the wet grass through his robes and feeling slightly uncomfortable about it, but leaning likewise back against the tree, trying but failing to relax. He gave Alfie a look like he was saying 'now what?'

Alfie saw the distaste in Julien's expression and frowned a little, then hummed under his breath as he thought about what it might be. "You don't really like getting dirty, do you? Um. I"m not very good at transfiguration. But you can use my tie or something, if you are, and transfigure a blanket to sit on or something...."

"Oh... oh no, it's not that, it's just the ground is wet." Julien tried to explain, not wanting to put Alfie out when the Hufflepuff was trying to do a nice thing for him. "Really, it's okay... but thanks... thanks for offering to sacrifice your tie for me." he said with a smile.

"No, here..." Alfie had already started tugging his tie off, so he just grinned and pulled it the rest of the way off, dropping it onto Julien's lap. "I hate wearing it anyway. If it gets torn up or something, I'll get out of it until mum can send me another one."

Julien took the tie and ran it idly between his fingers, looking at it without transfiguring it. "Really, it's okay, you don't need to ruing it for me... you'll get into trouble if something happens to it."

"Maybe a few points here or there," Alfie shrugged again, and leaned back against the tree again, it ended up wedging his shoulder up against Julien's, and he thought about moving, but then decided against it. "Besides, part of the charm thing was about laying down in the sun where no one can bug you, right? I didn't think to bring anything to lay down on. So if you can make one, we can both lie down."

Julien frowned at the idea of his losing Alfie's house points, but he couldn't argue in the face of Alfie's insistence so he let it drop. And then he wasn't entirely sure about what Alfie was asking him to do with the lying down on the transfigured blanket, but he shrugged and took the words as innocently as he suppoed they were meant. "I suppose I could fix it after." he decided in the end, flicking the tie out and charming it into a blanket in one smooth motion.

Alfie hadn't intended it any other way. Didn't even realize it could be taken in any other way than innocently. He looked like he was about to say something, but then his eyes went wide at the easy way Julien transfigured the blanket.

"Wow!" He said appreciatively, grinning and clapping Julien on the arm. "You're wicked good at that!"

Julien jumped a bit as he hadn't been expecting the physical congratulations, but he smiled a little shyly and shrugged. "Practise, you know." He said, too embarassed to really go into it any further. He got up and flung the blanket out onto the grass, indicating that Alfie should make himself comfortable first before Julien joined him.

Alfie thought it looked pretty comfortable, and he crawled onto it and helped to spread it out before he stretched out on one side and grinned up at Julien, hands behind his head. "Good work from a tie, you know? You should teach me that one." He'd never remember it, but that was sort of beside the point.

Julien settled himself down beside Alfie on his stomach, his head pillowed in crossed arms. "It was easy enough, just making it bigger really." he said with a shrug, uneasy about the praise just because he wasn't used to it. "I'll show you sometime when we're not being relaxed."

"Right, because I'd never remember it now anyway," Alfie laughed, and then he turned and rolled to his stomach too, accidentally rolling half on to Julien's side before he moved himslef over with a grunt. "Sorry, mate."

He crossed his arms under his head the same way Julien was, head turned to face him, and he closed his eyes. The sun came down through the trees right above them, and it was a warm day for October. He thought he'd had a pretty good idea.

Julien was going to protest that that hadn't been what he'd meant, but he wasn't sure that Alfie had meant it that way either... and then the thought was knocked from his head as Alfie rolled on him.

He didn't know what it was, maybe static from the blanket or something, but he felt something when Alfie was on top of him like that, something that had the colour rising in his cheeks a little. He took a breath and shook it away, likewise closing his eyes... for all of five seconds before opening them again as he was too paranoid to keep them closed like that. "So, uhm, what have you been up to lately?" he asked, the silence making him slightly uneasy.

Alfie shrugged, keeping his eyes close. The wind ruffled his hair, and he grinned at the feeling. Alfie was quick to enjoy the little pleasures - they were far better than things like getting good grades on parchments.

"Not much I guess. Quidditch practice and all. Did you go to that House Unity Party? That was pretty fun. What about you?"

"I was going to go... but... I didn't." Julien confessed shortly. He'd been doing homework of all things and he didn't really want to tell Alfie, of all people, that.

"I've not been doing much really, just studying, you know. The tutorial thing's not gotten any interest so I pretty much gave that up." and had considered whoring himself out for Daydream Charms but had decided against it. "How's Puddle?"

"Sorry about that," Alfie opened his eyes slowly to gauge if his friend was upset or not. "If I could afford to pay, I would. Merlin knows I need the help, right? But sorry...."

The next question made him grin, though. "He's fun! He likes to steal things, I think. Comes back to my room with ribbons and things that he's hiding under my bed..."

"Oh no, it's nothing, you know, I wouldn't ask for your money. If you need help, I'll help you though, I wouldn't ask you to pay." As much as he needed the cash, Alfie was still his friend and he'd help him just for that.

"That's cute, is he friendly or is he one of the bitey ones?"

"He's bitten me a few times? But I think he was playing. He chases some of the girls in the common room, but I think it's because they have long hair..." And he was pretty sure some of the ribbons that Puddle was stockpiling under his bed were hair ribbons, too. One looked like it might have been Evie's, but he hadn't talked to her much recently to be able to ask or to give it back.

"Is he making a nest under the bed or something?" Julien asked next. He wondered if he should get a pet, and discarded the idea in the next instant. He didn't have the money for one thing, and it wouldn't be fair for him to keep an animal that wasn't going to be happy just snuggling with him all the time.

"I don't know. Maybe he's trying to make a dress." Alfie snorted, then shrugged again and let his eyes droop closed once more. "I think he's just hording things. It's cute...You should get a cat too, or something. They could be mates."
