Who: Alfie and Julien
What: Talking, Hiding, Ignoring Work
Where: On the grounds
When: Sunday, After lunch
Warnings: TBA

Alfie was actually a little surprised that Julien had let himself be talked in to spending an afternoon not doing anything, but Julien had agreed to meet him, so after lunch he came out into the main hall and looked around for him. When he saw him, he grinned, coming up to bump his arm, and then saying hello quickly before he started out toward the main doors and onto the grounds.

He walked fast, he didn't really want to give Julien time to change his mind.

"I think you'll like this as much as the daydreams, you know?" He said as he walked, heading toward the small hut that used to be Hagrid's there on the edge of the Forbidden Forest. "When you're all full from lunch, and have hours just in the warm sun to lay around with nothing else to do?" Granted, he tended to do that same thing a lot more than was probably good for him, and his grades always suffered, but spending time just relaxing with friends was more important, at least to Alfie. Especially after the weird week he'd had before.

Julien hadn't so much eaten as pushed his food around in his plate, wondering what Alfie could show him that would be the same as his Daydream Charms and hungry for those more than anything. He was also a little bit worried about catching up with his work, but there was always Pepper-Up and pulling all-nighters and he'd rather do that than let Alfie down.

He hadn't really studied that reasoning carefully.

He walked along with Alfie, well, just behind Alfie as his friend was storming along at quite a pace and Julien was just concentrating on keeping up and not falling over his own feet. "Where are you taking me?" he asked, curious but apparently trusting Alfie not to lead him away to his own death.

"To your dooooom," Alfie teased, then shrugged and almost tripped over his own feet as he started downhill. He caught himself, then rolled his eyes at himself and grinned over at Julien.

"No, just out behind Hagrid's old place? There's a little hill... right at the edge of the Forest. Not inside or anything. But it's all blocked off. No one ever looks out there for me."

Julien quirked an eyebrow at his friend and then automatically reached out as the other boy almost tripped up, walking a little closer afterwards and being careful about where he put his own feet.

"Hagrid's hut feels weird now." he commented, although he hadn't been particularly close to the groundskeeper. There was something strange and dead about the empty little house now.

He also tried to file away the fact that this was where Alfie came to get away from people.

It made Alfie frown, though, and nod. "Yeah, I know. He was the greatest, wasn't he? I can't believe he ... died." He whispered the last word, the way his mum would, as if it was bad luck to say it aloud. "Or that the paper lied about it. But I trust Professor McGonagall though, so if she says he's dead, he has to be."

The Ravenclaw boy sighed heavily and made a sound of agreement, although he still wondered if they should even be here. "And it's safe being this close to the Forest?" he asked hesitantly, not wanting to sound like he was accusing Alfie of anything untoward.

"Well it's not like I go inside or anything..." Alfie grinned at him over his shoulder, and started down the little knoll behind the groundskeeper's hut, toward the tree line. "Just into the first line of trees. And nothing's ever happened to me."

"Yet, Alfie, nothing's happened to you yet." Julien pointed out somewhat pessimistically, but then that was his way. He followed Alfie on regardless though, even if he did make sure he knew that his wand was in quick reach.

Alfie rolled his eyes and said, "I'm not worried about it," but then he shrugged and gave Julien what he hoped was a reassuring look as they got closer to the first trees at the edge of the forest. "If something comes up, I'll protect you?"

Julien eyed the trees nervously but then gave Alfie a slightly doubting look at his vow. "Thanks..." he said, hesitant but trying to sound grateful. "And I'll... protect you back." he added, looking into the trees again and wondering if anything man-eating coming out of that would want to go for him rather than the more delicious looking Alfie.

Alfie grinned an honest, wide sort of grin, and true to his word he sat down on the wet grass just the other side of the first row of trees. They made a dark sort of canopy, but birds were singing and sun was shining in through the leaves still. Just at the edge of the forest in the middle of the day, there wasn't anything foreboding.

He patted the patch of grass next to himself, and leaned his back against the large tree. "Come on, it's fine."

Julien gingerly took a seat next to Alfie, feeling the wet grass through his robes and feeling slightly uncomfortable about it, but leaning likewise back against the tree, trying but failing to relax. He gave Alfie a look like he was saying 'now what?'

Alfie saw the distaste in Julien's expression and frowned a little, then hummed under his breath as he thought about what it might be. "You don't really like getting dirty, do you? Um. I"m not very good at transfiguration. But you can use my tie or something, if you are, and transfigure a blanket to sit on or something...."

"Oh... oh no, it's not that, it's just the ground is wet." Julien tried to explain, not wanting to put Alfie out when the Hufflepuff was trying to do a nice thing for him. "Really, it's okay... but thanks... thanks for offering to sacrifice your tie for me." he said with a smile.

"My fried Evie... you know he from classes?" Alfie couldn't remember which classes she took, but Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff were usually paired. He'd always thought that was a little unfair, really. Everyone looked dumb next to the Ravies.

"It was really awful though."

"Oh." he replied. He thought he knew who Alfie was talking about and he couldn't tell why Alfie's admittance made whatever it was inside him that was sinking shoot back up. "Oh?" he asked this time. "How come?"

Alfie had an idea of why, but it wasn't something he was willing to say out loud. "Don't know," he said instead. "Just don't really like her that way, I guess. It was like dating my sister or something."

Julien made a face at the idea and put aside the mystery of why his tummy was doing happy little flips. He hadn't even noticed Evie like that, so he had no idea where it was coming from."I'm sorry you had a bad time."

Alfie shrugged, and then grunted softly as he flopped over onto his back, hands crossed behind his head. He closed his eyes, rather than looking up into the sun.

"It wasn't bad really, not until the end anyway. Mostly it was like hanging about with a friend."

"Why, what happened at the end?" Julien asked, picking up on that part more than the rest for some reason, although the last part made him feel oddly relieved.

Alfie wasn't sure he was supposed to be talking about it - blokes always talked about their dates and who they snogged, but he didn't really thing what had happened was something he wanted to brag about.

"Oh. Just... snogged, sort of. But that wasn't any better. Awkward, you know?"

"I don't know." Julien answered, shaking his head and immediately blushing a little bit because he'd just revealed that he'd never kissed a girl before. He didn't think Alfie would rag him about it though.

At least he hoped Alfie wouldn't. "S-so you wouldn't go out with her again?" he asked quickly.

Alfie turned his head and opened one eye so he could look at Julien. Most blokes wouldn't just admit it like that.. but why did he feel so relieved that Julien had? Or that Julien hadn't, really.

"No. Not her," He answered, and something made him want to watch Julien's reaction. "No really any girls right now I think I want to ask out."

Julien looked away faux-casually as Alfie looked over at him, red with embarassment but trying to ignore it.

The way Alfie answered him immediately made him want to ask 'if not her, then who?' but he clamped down on that part of him and bundled it into a closet, locking the door behind him.

"Oh..." he said. He wasn't quite sure how to react to that because he wasn't quite sure how he felt. And why should he feel anything anyway? "Just not bothered at the moment?" he asked and wishing that they'd slipped into another line of conversation.

Alfie felt sort of disappointed that Julien had looked away, though he wasn't at all sure why. "I guess. Just no girls I like that way, right now...."

"Yeah..." Julien said, picking at the grass bundles. "I don't like any girls right now either."

He didn't like any girls at all; work consumed too much of his life for him to even spend time looking at girls. He didn't think about the fact that he'd made time for Alfie.
