Fred wasn't exactly sure what George had done, but the hag had come round looking for him before and didn't seem to have the best ability at choosing which twin was which. That had always worked in their favour before, but Fred had been stuck listening to how they don't actually eat babies for half an hour the day before last, so when he saw her ambling toward the shop door again he did the brave thing - he left George in charge for the day and popped out to see his Dad.
Dead good idea that he had, too. He and Dad had had some important things to talk about over lunch at the little pasty shop by the Ministry. Arthur had gotten another toaster, but hadn't figured out what you poured in the thing to have it make bread. Fred had a few suggestions, and by the time lunch was over, he thought Dad would be able to manage it. Maybe that was what the Kosher salt was really for - they'd soon find out.
He said goodbye to Arthur outside the shop and then sat again on a bench outside it and started in on eating his second pasty. There was no way he was going back to the shop, at least for another hour. He had every confidence George could get rid of the hag by himself by then. Or he'd end up married - which really served him right for bringing her around in the first place.
