Who: Delaney Twilfitt and Maeve Sheridan
When: Saturday evening/night
Where: Beginning at the Apothecary, ending who knows?
What: Delaney has an elixir to pick up. But that's not all she has in mind.
Rating: PG for kissing and awkwardness?
Open/Closed: Closed, Complete

Delaney hadn't been watching the time for the last hour. That wasn't her style at all. No, she had been keeping herself occupied, rearranging her shoes in the closet, and looking over some invoices for the shop, and okay yes, she had absolutely been watching the time for the last hour. It didn't matter anymore, because it was time to go.

She'd been planning it carefully - arrive to pick up the elixir for Nico at a time when Maeve was sure to be closing up shop, and invite her out. And then kiss her. Delaney hadn't really made plans further than that, mostly because she wasn't sure Maeve would let her get any further than that.

So. Elixir, date, kissing. Those were the three things on Delaney's mind as she strolled down the alley in a deliberately nonchalant manner, arriving at the door of the apothecary with hands that weren't shaking at all, thank you very much. She pushed open the door and walked in.

Maeve had a moment of surprise, taking a second to register what was going on and to process it before she could react. Tentatively, she stepped closer to Delaney and leaned into the kiss, pleased to find staying open to it made it more enjoyable. Maeve opened her mouth against Delaney's lips, giving her the access she wanted for a few more moments before she pulled back, forgetting all about the Italian place she'd been about to mention and fought the blush she was sure in her cheeks instead.

Pleased beyond reason that Maeve was responding, Delaney flicked her tongue into the other girl's mouth lightly, letting her pull away but tugging her back in after a couple of moments had elapsed, dropping an open mouthed kiss on her parted lips, letting her tongue dance inside Maeve's mouth and back out again, teasing and tantalizing, daring her to respond in kind.

"Or," she continued in a husky voice, "we could just get takeaways and stay here..."

"Here?" Maeve raised one eyebrow, a small smile lingering on her lips. "I don't think that would be very enjoyable," she said, thinking of the tiny flat above she claimed as her own. "Not much room, a desk, a bed and a fridge, mostly. Really, I'm quite lucky I'm so small." She took a step away from the older woman and untied her apron, tossing it on the cluttered desk before she waved her wand to take the heat off the cauldrons she had going. "There's an Italian place in London, just a few blocks from the Leaky Cauldron. If you want."

Licking her lips, Delaney nodded. "Show me," she invited. "I like Italian food."

Choosing to ignore the overt gesture, Maeve turned back to her desk and made a show of straightening a few things. "I'll just change?" She said, half questioning and half stating as she headed for the workshop door, intending to make a quick trip upstairs to trade her work clothes for something more fitting for a dinner out. Delaney looked nice and well put together and Maeve both wanted to match as well as look nice for her, not that she was too sure which reason was on top.

Delaney settled herself down to wait, hoping she wouldn't take too long. She really was hungry, and could quite cheerfully murder a plater of pasta carbonara.

As she waited, she pondered. It seemed to her to be a good sign that not only was Maeve kissing back, but agreeing to dinner, and actually makihg an effort to lok nice, by the sound of things.

Delaney tucked the little bottle in her purse and swung her legs a little as she waited.

Excusing herself, slightly grateful for the moment to think, Maeve hurried upstairs to her flat and flipped through her closet. She took the space to consider the last few minutes in peace as she swapped her comfortable clothes for neater skirt and blouse. It struck her as not at all normal that she wasn't more upset about getting caught asleep and off guard. She grabbed her clutch and stowed everything of importance into it's magically expanded depths before she walked back down to the workshop.

"Better," she stated simply, appearing in the doorway to fetch Delaney. As comfortable as it was to work in jeans and a tee, Maeve always felt better when she knew she looked at her best. She stepped out of the door way and waited for the other woman to follow her out of the shop.

"Beautiful," Delaney smiled. Following Maeve, she stepped out of the shop and into the street. Reaching out slightly, she took hold of Maeve's hand gently, watching her carefully to see if what she was doing was okay.

"So tell me more about this Italian place," she said, attempting to strike up a conversation to distract herself from pulling Maeve back into the shop and just kissing her all night. "Do you go there often?"

The gentle touch of Delaney's hand against her own caused Maeve to pause slightly, holding back the comment she'd been about to make and wiping it from her mind completely. Even if it was a soft, small gesture it was more than Maeve was used to and her brain immediately went into processing mode before she reminded herself that she didn't even know enough to try and process. It made more sense to let Delaney lead her along and see where it went and process then. It was the best plan she'd come up with, which wasn't saying much.

"I've been a few times," she said, shrugging. "It's not very fancy, but it's nice. And they do have the greatest tiramisu I've ever had."

She smiled at what Maeve was saying, especially about the tiramisu, before falling silent and going into her version of process mode. Everything in her was screaming that thus was completely out of character, that sweet and romantic wasn't something she ever did, and that she certainly didn't chase and pursue girls who hadn't really shown much interest in her to begin with.

So what was it about this particular girl that was causing Delaney to act like such an idiot? What was Maeve doing, that was inspiring Delaney to show herself up so bloody badly? Delaney only wished she knew. All she knew for sure was that, for whatever reason, she was out of the blue, crushing on Maeve like a silly little school girl. And she told herself that if had been anyone other than Maeve, she wouldn't have let herself get this bad. It was only that Maeve was pretty, and sweet, and so bloody adorable Delaney didn't know what to do with herself half the time. Yes, that was it.

"Is it far?" she asked quietly after what she didn't realize had been rather a long silence.

Never one to mind silence, Maeve walked beside Delaney content to let her own thoughts bounce between the current situation and her stomach's desire for penne all'arrabbiata. Her mind gravitated more to the fact that she was holding hands with someone who, she knew for a fact, would be happy to stop them where they were and kiss her but the far less complicated matter of dinner entrée.

"Hm?" Maeve looked up, slightly surprised to find the comfortable silence suddenly broken. "Not very. Just up on Shaftesbury."

"Alright." Delaney didn't say anything else until they arrived at the restaurant, still trying to figure out what it was about Maeve that was driving her so crazy.

The thing that drove her crazy the most, was the knowledge that again, if this had been anyone else, things would have been different. Delaney knew that anyone other than Maeve, and she would have been in bed with them by now.

Glancing over, Maeve wondered if she wasn't supposed to be saying or doing something at this point. It was new territory and she couldn't help but wonder if maybe she should be minding the silence.

She gestured as they neared the restaurant and held the door open for the other woman, following her in. She glanced over again, starting to question the comfortableness of the silence.

The place was nice enough, Delaney supposed. It was no Diamond, but it was warm, and the atmosphere seemed pleasant enough, though it was staffed entirely with people Delaney didn't recognize.

"That's odd," she murmured to herself, holding up her hand for the waiter and ordering a bottle of wine to start with. Normally it didn't matter where she went, she always saw people she recognized from school, no matter how desirable their company may or may not have been. She shrugged it off - there weren't that many students at Hogwarts at any given time, and they had obviously walked into the one place that none of their school mates was working at.

Turning her attention back to Maeve, she poured her a glass of the wine and smiled. "To you," she said, "to you and your skill at Potions, and to my brother's eventual health."

Maeve let Delaney order their wine happily, she enjoyed wine but her knowledge of the field was limited to knowing what she liked and that most of what she'd tried she'd liked. Curious about her statement, Maeve held off questioning as she raised her own glass and toasted with Delaney. She was always more than happy to toast her own skill and Delaney's brother's health was only an extension of that. "What's odd?" She asked, taking a sip and setting the drink back down.

"I don't see anyone from school," Delaney remarked in answer to Maeve's question. "How did you find this place, anyway? I've never heard of it."

But the wine was good, and as she glanced over the menu, the food looked good, so she was willing to overlook it - for now. The waiter came back and she ordered a plate of pasta carbonara, and sat back to enjoy her wine and the company.

"It's a muggle restaurant," Maeve pointed out, raising an eyebrow at the fact Delaney hadn't picked up on that. "I could only eat noodles so many nights in a row before I was desperate to find something else and the Leaky Cauldron's food just doesn't quite satisfy. I started wandering around London," she shrugged and took another sip of wine, it was quite good. "Found a few nice places."

Delaney paled, her eyes going wide. "You brought me to a muggle restaurant?" she asked in horror. "I don't... I mean, I've never..."

Really, she should get up, walk out, and go home for a shower. But there was something holding her back - Maeve. As horrified as she was to be consorting with muggles, she couldn't find it in herself to walk out on the girl.

"Well, this is a first," she finished weakly, draining the rest of her glass in one long swallow and pouring herself another.

Maeve resisted the urge to cringe and sigh at the cliché pureblood reaction. The only possible world to exist in was the magical one, obviously. Even when it's largest commercial district offered no more cuisine options than pan-fried noodles and bangers and mash. "There's a first for everything," she drawled, taking a long swig of wine.
