It was an extraordinarily gorgeous day even for fake New New York. The Master and Doctor had taken over a corner of Central Park to try to gather together cricket teams, from visitors or natives, whoever knew or was willing to learn the basic rules and play. Captaining opposing teams, of course. The easy banter back and forth indicated high, good spirits.

"Is there anyone is does work for?" he speculated.

"One," he said after a moment. "Though I'm not so certain it works for her as she's just so damned stubborn and used to it that finds a way to make it work."

He grinned. "That sounds like the Doctor."

Jason paused, thinking about it. "No wonder the Doctor drove me a little crazy and I still liked him." Said something about Anita, at least.

"Anita. She's..." Jason paused, frowning slightly. "It's hard to explain. But the Doctor does remind me of her a lot."

He grinned and nodded. "Oh yeah. She's just mostly in the middle of figuring out that the world isn't as black and white as she used to think it was."

Jason nodded again. "Yeah. She thought for a long time that vampires, at least, were all evil and ruled by their baser instincts. I'm not sure if she thought the same of weres. She's never mentioned it to me." His grin widened. "Though, when we first met, I doubt she would have gotten the impression otherwise. Still. Black and white. Good and evil. Humans and others."

"Humans can be provincial, willfully ignorant, and ruled by fear," he said blandly. "Not that my own people weren't that, quite often."

"Pretty much," Jason agreed. "She's getting better about it, though." When she wasn't running off trying to get her head together and making things difficult for everybody around her.

Jason shook his head. "No. It's only me and Jean-Claude from our world here."

"Very much so," he agreed. "It's a bit of a pain, honestly. We're doing the best we can, but it's not easy."

"No, of course not," he said quietly. Life long rebel or not, he knew intimately through the loss of Gallifrey what it pain loosing what you were used to was.

It was worse when Jean-Claude needed more than Jason could give him on his own. "I'm just glad the forests around the old town have animals in them."

"Is that what you need? Space and something to hunt?"

"Something to eat more than something to hunt," he clarified. "The change takes a hell of a lot of energy, which is easiest to replace by eating. Hunting is a pack activity, so hunting by myself is more than a little odd."

Jason nodded. "But. The woods are better for hunting. Which reminds me. Do you know if people actually live outside of the hotel? People who don't have a TARDIS." He had to sound that last bit out, the word unfamiliar on his tongue."

"Corwen did, maybe still does. I think most people just find the hotel convenient, and less isolating then finding a house, or something."
