Fred jotted up in bed when the banging started. She blinked her eyes while John opened the door. When she saw Lorne, her first thought went to Alex and Chase. Quickly, she got out of the bed and went over to where they were standing. She let out a relieved sigh when Lorne assured them everything on the city was all right. But when he said they needed to go back to SGC because of her, she thickly swallowed.
"The Trust?" she muttered before John spoke. Nodding, she grabbed their shoes and tossed John's to him before she put on her own. Soon, they were in the car and going back to the base so they could teleport back to Colorado Springs.
"What's going on, Lorne?" Fred asked when they pulled into the base and were met by several armed soliders, who whisked them inside and to the teleport room.
"I'll explain once we're at SGC," Lorne said before they teleported away. When they got to the SGC, Lorne tapped his headset. "General Landry, we have Doctor Sheppard and Colonel Sheppard secured, Sir."
Fred reached down and took her husband's hand; not knowing what was going on was making her nervous. Lorne led them to a room and had them sit down at a long table before sitting down across from them.
"In the 70's, there was an alien race on Earth by the name of the Roane. They made a habit of kidnapping babies with the ATA gene. They were able to determine who had it before the child was even born. For about twelve years, they kidnapped several infants and attempted to raise them in a compound outside of San Jose, California. Eventually, the group started to fall apart when some of the members decided they didn't want to be part of something that took children away from their parents. Some of the children were returned, while others were raised by the members, who had left. About two years ago, the final Roane members were captured and they handed over a detailed list of all the children they had kidnapped," Lorne explained as he pulled out a thick folder and placed it in front of him.
"What does this have to do with me and The Trust?" Fred asked with a confused look.
Lorne rubbed his face and looked at John before looking at Fred again. "Fred...your parents had two daughters, not one. You have a twin sister," he quietly said.
Fred stared at Lorne, her throat tightening. He was wrong. Her parents would've told her if she'd had a twin sister. "You're mistaken," she said. "My parents would've told me something like that! They had no reason to lie to me about having a sister, let alone a twin."
With a sigh, Lorne pulled out a birth certicate. "She was born as Emma Burkle. The day after her birth, the Roane came to get her from the maternity ward and made it look like Emma had died," he said before placing a death certificate on the table. "Your parents didn't know, Fred. They were told her had died."
Fred looked away from the death certificate. If she were honest with herself, she would know he was right. She could remember seeing her mother in the room with John, and how sad her mother looked when her parents had brought her home from the hospital.
But she couldn't believe they would lie to her.
"When your sister was a toddler, two of the Roane decided to take her away. They changed her name to Kathryn Adams and moved to Omaha to raise her," Lorne said. He pulled out a packet of pictures and laid them on the table. Fred glanced at them, her chest tightening as she looked at a little girl, who looked like she had when she young. "Kathryn had a normal childhood, never knowing what her parents really were. She went to the University of Nebraska-Omaha and received a degree and worked at a local hospital for a while."
Fred looked over at her husband, remembering what he'd said earlier that evening. He hadn't bumped into her - he had bumped into her twin sister. Oh, God. She had a twin sister.
"Kathryn is now married and has a daughter, who is about a month younger than Alex," Lorne said as he sat another picture on the table.
Looking down at it, Fred picked it up. It was a picture of Kathryn and her family. And as Fred looked at the little girl in the picture, she swore she could see Alex in her. "What happened?" she finally asked.
"Kathryn was kidnapped tonight by members of The Trust. We believe someone here at SGC leaked documents about the fliers you tested earlier. It wasn't enough for them to make the fliers but they knew you would be in Omaha, and we think they kidnapped Kathryn thinking she was you," Lorne said. "Her husband Alex and daughter Peyton are here but we haven't told them about you yet."
Fred felt her stomach violently lurch. She had a twin sister and she had been kidnapped because of her. "I think I'm going to be sick," she muttered before she dropped the picture to the table.
