Caitlin stood in Charlie's nursery and finished folding her clothes. She then looked over everything she had laid out, making sure she had everything they would need for a week. This would be their first trip with the infant and Caitlin didn't want to forget anything. With a soft sigh, she unzipped Charlie's little suitcase and started to pack her clothes. When she was finished, she pulled out another bag and packed some bottles and diapers in it.
It had been two days since Rodney had left to go back to Earth. When he came to them and said Laura was still alive, Caitlin knew what it meant without Rodney even saying the words. Laura was the fourth and when Rodney said he was going back with Erin, Caitlin merely nodded and left the quarters to let him pack their things up. And, by the time Rodney was ready to leave, the connection she had felt with him was completely gone. She could no longer feel or sense him. Daniel had been right.
She couldn't bring herself to tell him goodbye so while everyone was in the Gate room, seeing Rodney and Erin off, Caitlin stood on the east pier with Charlie in her arms. She still had Carson, which helped a lot. Especially since it seemed their connection was suddenly stronger.
The day after Rodney had left, a staff meeting was held. It was decided Daniel would take Rodney's place on John's team, while Fred, Radek and Caitlin would be "on call" for missions. Caitlin was promoted to Chief Science Officer with Fred, which meant Radek was now the head of the physics department and Tim was the head of the biology systems department. All the promoting made Rodney being gone even more real. And, before the meeting ended, Sam told Carson and Caitlin to take a week off so they decided to go to Scotland so Carson could see his family.
Shaking her head, Caitlin finished her packing and carried the bags out to the living room, where she sat them down with the rest of the luggage. She then went over to the bassinet and picked up Charlie before going to where Carson was. "I'm all packed and ready to go," she said.
