Summer was finally upon them, and Aria was ready to soak up the sun. She had stepped out into the radiant summer day in her new sundress and sandals, almost expecting to find a swimming pool out in front of the apartments. The heat felt nice against her skin, and Aria took to the streets leisurely. It was the first pseudo-holiday she had spent here in Storybrooke, and while the Fourth wasn't really as big on family as say Christmas or Thanksgiving, Aria was still missing her family on this day. She passed by countless stores all decorated with red, white and blue streamers and flags. It was certainly a sight to see. Not that Aria was crazy patriotic or anything, but it did tug at her heartstrings just a little bit.
Without even realizing it, Aria found herself out by the docks. She had found a wooden railing and was leaning over the pier just enjoying the wind in her face and the sun dancing over her skin. It was now that Aria allowed herself to think clearly, and she had a lot of things to think about. Emily was here now, and that made Aria smile. Despite wanting to protect her friend from the harsh realities of this world (particularly the fact that they were actually characters from a tv show), Aria was glad to have someone from back home here. It made her feel more complete, and with a twinge of gratitude toward whatever force in the universe had brought her here, she also felt relieved. If Spencer and Hanna could be pulled here too, maybe the four of them could live out the rest of their lives without having to worry about A anymore. That would certainly be a huge relief.
Then, her thoughts turned in a different direction. She watched as a small sailboat floated happily in the distance, and for some reason, it reminded her of the friends she'd made while here. These were people who had been forged by suffering and pain as well, people who had endured hardships and become superheroes despite it all. Was it possible that in such a short time she was able to make so many new and diverse friends while here? Her fingers reached up and curled into the ends of her hair. Yes, she definitely wanted a haircut. Maybe that would...
No.
Aria whirled around and pressed her back against the railing, pushing her wayward thoughts as far away as possible. If this was supposed to be her new beginning, then she wasn't going to be the old Aria. She didn't need to have a boyfriend in order to define herself. She knew exactly who she was, and that was the only thing that mattered. Besides, she was possibly the worst girlfriend in history, and she didn't want to put any other boy through that. No. A haircut was fine, but she was going to cut it for herself. Not to get the attention of any boy. Yes, that was it. The new Aria. The one who didn't care about having a boyfriend. Was it even possible? Could she actually do it? Perhaps, she didn't really have a choice.
