Will came to in slow bursts. He felt like when he had pneumonia and was heavily medicated, and just opening his eyes was like lifting up a truck. HIs eyelids weighed a ton. Finally, groggily, he found consciousness, but he wasn't able to reach out to the others. It hadn't been that long since his awareness of them flared into sudden focus, but now it felt alien to be alone in his head again. It felt wrong. He groaned and turned over, and it was then that he heard a strange voice. There were gentle hands and soothing voices, and that didn't make Will feel any better. He knew that type of tone. It was the 'don't freak someone out' tone when something was wrong. The last thing he knew he was knocking himself out instead of shooting himself in the head, so this was a drastic change. The hospital beeps were all around him, and he tried to sit up, but he felt like he was slogging through a frozen river. Everything was so slow and heavy. He tried to listen to what he was being told, but really what he was waiting for was his mind to clear. His voice sounded strange, slurred, when he said Riley's name, because it was the only thing he could put into words right then. Will sat up again, this time more determined, and his stomach lurched. But he kept control. Did Whispers get him? He didn't feel the man in his head, he didn't feel his eyes on the back of his neck, or breath at his neck. "Okay," he said, finally, swallowing and his eyes clearing. "Tell me again. Slowly." None of it made sense, but his life hadn't made sense for awhile now. He was usually good at reading people, knowing what was or wasn't real, but that certainty went out the window the first time he saw a beautiful girl with sad eyes listening to thumping music way too loudly. Will could feel his body warming up, and his mind drifting, and he smiled. He felt them. "Don't worry," he said wearily, leaning his head back against the pillow. "My family is here. They'll find me." He waved a hand. "Don't ask. It just ... yeah." Will couldn't explain it and he had a sneaking suspicion this place was going to be just as confusing. But it didn't matter. Riley. He thought, and closed his eyes. Come find me. |
