Logan's lips clamped down on the end of a cigar as he stuffed his hands into the pocket of his jacket. He couldn't believe he was back here. He couldn't believe it had only been a few days either, not with everything that had happened. He'd gotten his memories back, or at least more than he'd had, but now he was starting to think that wasn't the best thing in the world. At least, before, he'd had questions. Now? Now Logan had answers, and he didn't like very many of them. Rogers was dead and Omega Red was still alive. He had a son, and one who hated him evidently, and had now gone off to join the Dark Avengers. He also learned that he used to be a nightmarish brute of a man, which didn't really come as much of a surprise, and had a whole lot more blood on his hands than he liked to admit. Now, here he was, back in Storybrooke. He'd landed in the last place he could think of wanting to end up, surrounded by a mess of people he wasn't entirely sure he could trust, holding the one thing that posed a serious threat to him short of that damnable sword. Now Logan was doing the only thing he could think to do, with what he knew about himself. He knew there were layers of conditioning in his head. He knew that a vast majority of his own plans and motivations were suspect. Even here, through the ass end of some bizarre portal, in the land of fairy tales and make believe, Logan didn't entirely trust himself to be free of Romulus' reach. He knew, if he was right, or if anything went wrong, that someone else needed to be in charge of the synthesizer. Logan puffed on his cigar, running his fingers over the outline of the carbonadium synthesizer, while his eyes continued to scan for signs of Carol. If there was anyone he could trust, at least here, he figured it was Carol. There were other options for sure, people like Kitty or even Jubilee, but could either of them really be asked to pull the trigger on Logan if the situation called for it? He likely could have trusted Fury or Stark to do it as well, maybe even Romanoff, but putting a weapon that could bring him down in the hands of S.H.I.E.L.D? Logan wasn't about to be that stupid. No, Carol was the obvious choice. He trusted her to do it when and if it needed to be done, and not invent some absolutely batshit reason for putting a bullet somewhere in his body. It'd slow his healing factor down to a crawl, make him vulnerable just like everyone else. Sure, it wasn't going to sever the adamantium coating his bones, and it wasn't going to kill him by itself, but at least it made it possible. Now it was all a matter seeing if Carol would go for it at all. Today was not shaping up to be his best day ever. |
