One night of insomnia and I've come up with a strange theory-

Infomercials are just a legalized variation of brainwashing.

Think about it, they take place anywhere from 2 am to 4 am, so whoever's watching them is already sleep deprived and susceptible to power of suggest. Add in what is essentially commercial of people praising an object over and over again and it's all really simple-fifteen minutes later who wouldn't want to by an over-hyped towel.

What is an infomercial?

I may need this towel.

Commercials are the little segments they play on television to make you buy something. Infomercials are the same thing, but longer and and provide real 'tests' to insure quality-least that's what they want the viewer to believe.

For twenty dollars? Not worth the price.

Are infomercials on that talking box?

The television? Yes they are. Usually only late at night or maybe sunday morning and only on some stations.

That I've even watching them is sad.

Television.

They could be very informational.

*he can't here the snort she just made*

Hardly. They're people paid to sell you a product by over hyping what it can do and glossing over or omitting its flaws.

I'm telling you it's brainwashing-trying to convince people to buy a product that they'd normally have no need or desire to buy.

I will avoid these infomercials, then.

Keep normal sleeping hours and it shouldn't be a problem.

Then you've people like me who can't seem to get to sleep-and unfortunately there's very little else to do to pass time that late at night.

I cannot sleep here.

Come to my apartment and we can watch infomercials together.

Just do not mind Floki.

Not used to this place yet?

Why not. Not like I'll get sleep any other why without. *Sure, she could take sleeping pills, but the thought of dependency is a scary one*

Floki?...think I've met him my first day here.

It is still far too strange here.

I will see you soon, then.

And Floki is hard to forget.

Least no one's out trying to kill you.

Imagine he would be.

See you soon.

Just because no one has tried to kill me yet does not mean people will not try to kill me in the future.

I will see you soon.

Infomercials are evil.

So what does that say for the insomniacs watching them?

The insomniacs are not evil, they're just being pulled in by the infomercial producers' evilness.

I'm aware of their evilness, but there's little else on at 2 in the morning.

What's Netflix?

Netflix is a website where you can stream movies or TV shows onto your computer.

Or Television if you have the capability of doing so.

Fuck, I suddenly feel old.

Haven't watched a movie in ages, never had the time or patience for it.

It has television shows as well. So perhaps those would intrigue you more?

Maybe. Most of what I'd even find close to interesting touches too close to home, but what the hell, I'll look it up.

*five minutes later* my god, they have Dr. Who.

I think all commercials are a form of brain washing in general, especially ones aimed at kids. They do so much focus testing and psychological study about how to best influence people to buy their things, it's actually a little frightening.

Most commercials aren't a half hour long.

Isn't that the point of business though, make people think they need your product. Hell, infomercials especially they always show the actor looking worn out or frustrated without whatever it is they're trying to sell.

....Agreed about the kids and commercials though.

Well, they FEEL like a half hour!

It is. And I think advertising has it's place, and infomercials are mostly so silly it's hard to take them seriously. But I really hate how things are marketed to kids.

I'm guessing your work with kids a lot, then.

I think the silliness is on purpose-a means of entertaining to keep you watching most likely.
