Right, so, maybe I'm thinking ahead, but I can't help but think that we're only a week or so from New Year's, too. And the beginning of a new year. ~~I can't believe it's almost 2014~~ So, what resolutions do people here have? What things about your current lives do you want to change? What things do you want to do better next year? And saying that you want to leave this place doesn't count - only include things you can actually do something about.

And also...shouldn't we have a New Year's Party? Christmas is for family, but New Year's is for getting together with friends.

	That all sounds really good to me, too. I'm also... trying to figure out how to balance two lives, sort of; the one with my family and the one with you. They're not the most accepting people in the world. I mean... they are, just not for me. I told you a little bit, didn't I, about how they didn't approve of me going to Stanford? That was a long time ago for us, and now we're playing normal happy family around here, sort of, but it's still... weird.

That's just for me, though. There are expectations for me, not for other people. You're wonderful, Jess. I'm sure they'll love you. I have absolutely no worries about that.

It's complicated, and I didn't really understand it at the time I explained it to you, either. My dad... was afraid for my safety, away from where he could protect me. He told me that was all he could think about, rather than what I wanted. It's that, and-- there's a kind of loyalty you have to have on this job, in this life. Expectations that I'll give up anything for family and for the greater good. Not here, though; the situation here is different. ~~For now, anyway~~

The reason my family is like this is just because we all care too damn much about other people, Jess. About our own family, about the other people we love, about people we don't even know. They already care about you just because of how much you mean to me, even if they really don't know how to show it.
