The Joke's On You (Joker, Kitty)
After the tremors, Dinah found herself in... a city? She looked around at the buildings, even recognizing some. Others, however, were completely out of place. Where was she?

It wasn't Gotham or Metropolis or any other city she knew about, even if she did see Fieri brothers on the corner.

Dinah did a double take as the aroma of home-made Italian food wafted toward her.

"I have to be dreaming," she told herself.

All the same, just in case she wasn't dreaming, she moved closer to the restaurant. Her mouth was watering at the idea of eating pasta again. Hell, at this point she would take any food that wasn't postapocalyptic food. If chocolate and wine were added to the mix, she might just have to conclude that she'd died and ended up in some sort of Heaven.

Jack paused in work briefly to inspect the cut on the bottom of her foot. It was bleeding heavily, and he didn't want Dinah passing out before he had a good chance to have fun with her. But it looked like he'd missed any major veins, so that was good. He continued to work at the toenail and put it down on her leg when he'd gotten it out.

"Fuck me?" Jack asked, thoughtfully, moving onto the next toe. He wondered if it would hurt more or less because it was smaller. "I don't really think that you mean that, birdy. But wouldn't it be interesting? No. That's not really my style. Unless you're actually offering. If you're willing, that's a different story."

Frowning, he turned toward the sound of the voice, a little confused.

"Are you really half in that table?" The bloody knife pointed in the direction of where the girl was standing. He seemed nonplussed about the threat or the girl or what she was doing. "Are you a ghost?"

A smile curved his lips. "Do ghosts bleed? Can we find out?"

Kitty was already calculating. Assessing the situation. She didn't seem bothered by the blood, the knife, the smile. Well, she might have seemed a little angry. Her eyes narrowed slightly, and she started to smile as she walked slowly forward. It was a smile she'd seen on Logan's face when things were about to get messy.

"We could also see how you work without a heart. Or we could start with your brain." She didn't like the knife, and she didn't like the way things looked for the woman.

"Which one of us do you thinks going to find out first?" The smile had faded slightly, but there was still a fire in her eyes, "ghost" or not. She knew she was taking a risk, but she needed to get closer.

In spite of the pain in her legs and feet, Dinah couldn't help but smile just a bit. She liked this woman. She just hoped that the Joker couldn't hurt her.

While his attention was on the ghost, or whatever she was, Dinah started to work at the ropes binding her hands. She didn't know how long he would remain distracted, but she wasn't just going to sit here and waste her best chance at getting away.

"Well, we can try." Jack said thoughtfully, nodding. "But I'm pretty sure I know how that goes. I'm not real fond of the ending it'll provide."

He didn't think this girl was a ghost. He'd never seen anybody be able to do things like she was doing right now, but that didn't mean much. He'd lived in a world where a man with enough money had become a bat and the woman below him had once had the ability to create a scream to shatter most things. Now he lived in a world where people could do all kinds of interesting stuff.

"So what do I gotta do to break you out of this little ghosty state? Shock you? Do something to shake your little world? Throw things at you? Water? If I splash water on you, will that work? Oh, what about puppies? Are puppies your weakness?"

The squirming caught Jack's eye as he looked around the apartment for things that he might be able to throw at the half visible girl, and he turned. The knife arched down and slid through the skin and muscle to land neatly in Dinah's shin. He brought it out again with the tip missing, broken off in bone.

"Stop." He said, not even caring about the broken blade. It would just give him more interesting cut marks, that jagged end. Jack moved around to the other side of Dinah, putting the damsel in distress between himself and the newcomer, dragging the now more cruel knife end along her flesh as he did so.

"So do you think you can get to me before I do something like... stab her through with this thing? Do you think you can get to me before I jam it into her eye?" He smiled, wide and wicked. "Oh I like that one. You get to me, or she loses an eye. Yes."

Dinah cringed away from the knife. It wasn't a conscious decision to do so, but he had already done quite a bit of damage and she knew the Joker too well. He didn't make idle threats.

She was at the mercy of the newcomer, whether she liked it or not. She just hoped that the young woman could handle whatever Joker had to throw at her.

Kitty had gotten closer, close enough anyway. She just had to hope that this place didn't have spots that killed her ability too.

"What is it with bad guys and talking?" She really wasn't expecting an answer. "Think you've done enough to her, thanks. Hold your breath." It could have been to either of them, but she hoped the woman would do just that. A small jump, her hand on the woman's arm was all she needed, and soon the two were phasing out of the apartment and down. Kitty didn't know what was beneath them, but she hoped it was better than this.

It would take her some time to figure out where to go, but she moved the injured woman as quickly as possible, trying to make sure she didn't pass out from lack of oxygen. Kitty didn't often need to worry about someone breathing, but she did and got them downstairs to what looked like a garage. The landing wasn't as soft as she'd prefer, but it wouldn't do more damage.

"Okay...we-" She smiled when she saw the muscle car. "Sweet. Hope you don't mind bleeding in your car. Hope you're awake." The goal: get bleeding woman in the car and to a hospital, then try to find the psycho and beat the ever loving snot out of him.

"I like the sound of my own voice." Jack was still smiling. "And it's more fun when they think they know what to expec... oh."

He watched the two of them, the ghost girl had just made Dinah into a ghost as well and they fell through the floor. They were just gone, like that. It was really kind of amazing, actually. Jack was a little pissed about the loss of the bird, but in light of what he'd just seen, he couldn't really be as angry as he should have been.

"Well that was neat." He told the empty room. Then he left, not caring about whatever blood and leftover rope might still be there. Let the blonde version of the bird deal with it all.
