No evil
I have a medieval King in my medbay. I'm not sure which part confuses him more, the technology around him, the fact I'm a woman or the fact I'm black.

Wasn't Richard III the evil one? According to Shakespeare anyway.

He did not seem evil.

I didn't study that part of history much, I just know the plays about the era.

Until we know he for ourselves is lets not deem him so then.

Morality meant something different then anyway. Right now, he's my patient, even if he is incredibly confused as to why a black woman is treating him.

Really!

That's sort of brilliant actually.

Think about Shakespeare though and the Queen he served.

Okay, yes, but Shakespeare was lovely. I met him and he wrote me a sonnet.

But yes, I seem to have Richard III in my medbay, eying the phone like it's going to bite him.

He was also a massive Tudor propagandist. I suggest we don't show the King what history has done to his legacy.

He is from very long ago. I mostly remember the tail end of all that and his niece marrying Tudor

Considering we don't actually know what his legacy really was. Actually, maybe the Doctor knows.

I was never taken to that point in time.

By all accounts he wasn't a terrible king. I mean there were rumours, his nephews and all...but I was hardly of the station to know such things.

That's always been the big question of history, hasn't it. Did he do it.

Of course I'm not asking him! He's my patient!

Indeed.

Also, welcome to the country you didn't know existed, we're fighting the devil, by the way, did you kill your nephews, what about your wife, your brother?

This is going to be difficult to explain to him isn't it.

...I wish you the best of luck in this endevour Dr Jones

Right now I'm focusing on making sure the stitches in his wound stays put and relieving the bruising he's suffering.

Everything else can wait.

He arrived wounded?

...He arrived from Bosworth or something ridiculous didn't he? The seal sometimes has a twisted sense of humour

That's my guess. I'm thinking part way through the battle, because the injuries are not life threatening, assuming he does as he's told now as part of the recovery.

I say ask one of the ones who lived through his era what he was really like. We've got people who've been around for centuries!

Missed it by a matter of years sadly.

I was probably born while he was king but that's about it

Did you ever expect to be considered too young to know something? That has got to be odd.

I didn't actually.

It's a little disconcerting. Especially given my surname

Well, history is written by whoever like wins, right? And I'd think any plays or songs or whatever kinda reflect that.

There are two sides to every story. Like when someone is trying to kill you then you probably think they're evil incarnate and don't really give a damn about their reasoning aside from the whole wanting you dead. But if you got the story from their POV maybe it'd be different. Maybe your death meant their life or the life of someone they love.

That is true, history is written by the victors and all that.

And morality back then was different anyway. We can't judge someone by 21st century standards. So even if they did do acts that were considered horrific, maybe for them then, they weren't.

That is a really hard concept to grasp. The morality one.

Well, once slavery wasn't thought of as an immoral concept, now we rightfully consider it abhorrent. Women were once considered the property of men, now we're more equal, at least in theory. To kill in the name of religion has been considered the right thing to do in several eras in history. Even today, many radical groups believe in it, but the majority of people consider it reprehensible.

Weirdly though, I experienced less racism when I met Shakespeare than when I was around in 1913. Shows how time does change and evolve, backwards and forwards.

You've experienced it in different places because of time traveling, right? In the blue box with the Doctor?

I just find it fascinating. All the changes and I can't wait to really see them happen now. How everything--art, music, morality--changes with the centuries.

That's it. I've jumped around to a few different times, including the end of the entire universe, rather than seeing it all through.

You're immortal now, I am actually jealous. The Doctor might call it the slow road, but I'd love to see things as they actually evolve.

I wonder if the end of your universe is the same for all of us. This reality thing is trippy.

I wasn't sure about it at first and it still freaks me out sometimes, but I'm interested in seeing what happens. I'd rather see what I am as a gift than a curse.

I hope not because the end was kind of intense. The last stars burning out.

I reckon this stuff is what you make of it. If you want it to be a gift, it really can be.
