I know it's been a while since we've spoken, but I wanted to see how you were settling in and if you needed help with anything.

Fairly well, thank you. It is taking some time to adjust to the surroundings, mostly. A new country, a new century, and a new language is all very difficult at once.

Have you been keeping very busy?

I can only imagine. If you need help with any of it, I'm here for extra help.

I've been trying to. Mr. Stark gave me a job as a security officer for his company which is nice as it lets me have some spending money for art supplies. And to try some Russian recipes from home I miss.

Thank you. It gets easier every day, really. Not as easy as French was, but manageable.

Oh, that is brilliant! At some point I imagine I will actually have to find work. As long as it is not a fish market, I will not mind. What sorts of recipes?

It does get easier, especially the more you use it and hear it.

Finding a job you like to do is always a good thing. And for now, basic recipes. There's not exactly a diverse food market I can get to easily that has some ingredients I'd need for trying to make some of my mother's favorite recipes unfortunately. So far the only one I've been able to get right is the beef stroganoff and lentil soup.

I am beginning to think so. Watching films has proven to be a wonderful learning tool. And they really are fascinating.

My real issue is the technology required for most positions. I was not trained in any of that, obviously, it was not available. In fact, the only thing I was trained for was the market. Not very helpful.

Ew, strogan Are there not any grocers with a...what is it called? A world section? I found one with Mexican food and food from Asia as well.

They are fascinating. I'm half tempted to watch the movies I'm from but I'm hesitant about bringing up some hard memories about those my friends and I have lost.

I haven't looked too well yet to find one honestly. Though to be fair, I've been told my barbeque is extremely delicious.

I understand the temptation. Everyone seems split on the idea. I think I hope that if I do see it, it will at least give me some ideas as to who I am. But what if I do not like who that is? It is a difficult decision. In your situation, maybe think of it as a way to see them again even though you have lost them?

Barbeque?

That is a good point. But with how recently I just lost them, I think I might wait, let myself grieve a bit more. And even if you see it Anya and what you could become, you don't have to become that person here. Here your life is a clean slate and you can be whoever you wish to be.

It's a delicious way of cooking meat. There's different styles to barbequing but I prefer smoking the meats for a few hours before adding the sauces to augment the flavor. If you'd like I could make you some to try.

It might be better for you that way. Maybe in time, perhaps if you are feeling homesick.

See, Piotr, my life is a clean slate anyway. I have no memory of anything before I was eight years old. All I know is I was found in St. Petersburg and muttered a name that apparently sounds like Anya. It may not even be my real name. I have no last name and I have no family to speak of. If that film can give me that, maybe I ought to at least have a look.

That does sound intriguing. I would be interested in trying it, if you are making some. But do not go to any trouble just for me!

Those were my thoughts. Right now the emotions are too fresh, too raw.

Perhaps. Regardless, I think you should trust your instincts. If they tell you to see the film, then see it. If they tell you no, then don't. Either way, no one will fault you for either decision you decide on.

I was planning on making some for everyone in the complex anyways. I just need to save up my paychecks to buy the appropriate smokers and what have you so it turns out correctly.

Give it time, then. You have friends from home here, do you not? Perhaps they will have some insight on if this is a good idea or not.

I understand. I am just upset. And anxious.

It sounds wonderful. You will have to let me know when you have all the things you need, I would love to learn something new that is not Romanov history.

I do have one friend from home here. But I don't want to bother her with this. She took the Professor's death hard

Understandable.

Of course Anya. The way I like to cook it does require patience as it takes several hours, but the flavor is well worth the wait.
