WHO: Elena Salvatore and Jenna Sommers
WHEN: After this conversation
WHERE: Salvatore Boarding House Living Room
WHAT: Elena and Jenna catch up, one to one
RATING: TBD
STATUS: In progress

Elena had been expecting this. The only question in her mind had been when it would happen. It made absolute sense to her that Jenna wanted to learn about... everything. It wasn't going to be easy to fill her in on everything but Elena had resolved to be as honest as possible with her aunt as soon as Jenna asked. Still, she had hoped she'd get a little more of a reprieve than this. Now that the moment had come, she had no idea how to fill Jenna in on everything she had a right to know.

A bottle of bourbon in hand, Elena made her way down the grand, wooden staircase to the Boarding House living room where Jenna was waiting for her.
"This one was at the back," she said, holding up the bottle as she entered the room. "If I know Damon, that means it's one of the good ones." Elena still wasn't much of a fan of bourbon but, living with the Salvatores meant that she was fighting a losing battle trying to introduce any other kind of liquor to the drinks cabinets in the house.

Elena pulled off the bottle cap and raised the mouth of the bottle to her lips, taking a little sip before shuddering and pulling a face.
"Well, it's strong," she confirmed, glancing at her aunt before holding out the bottle. Alcohol was definitely needed right now.

"Caroline said something about fries helping here, I think I'll try nachos." She said thinking of the margarita that went with it, although her taste buds were all over the place still and she couldn't exactly figure out what other than blood would taste good. Blood. Blood wasn't supposed to taste good, she wasn't supposed to feel this hungry for it either, it was still just really hard for her to comprehend. It was a lot to get used to.

"The beginning is a great place." Jenna echoed almost speaking over Elena.

Jenna just made a face, understanding the need for a vampire for the whole thing, the whole reason she was what she was now, the whole reason she ended up getting murdered... But she couldn't feel bad that they were trying to save Caroline, she didn't want anything to happen to Elena's friends either... She was just really angry at Klaus.

"So while Stefan was gone... you fell for Damon? Is that what it was?" She said still having a hard time understanding how Elena could ditch really nice Stefan for Damon, but she saw the way Elena got when she talked about Damon, and really what could she judge? Well, she could judge, it was her right as an aunt to judge.

Jenna tried a smile but it was weak. "Tell me about it." Was all she mustered to say.

"We could get take out?" Elena suggested, the thought of fries and nachos sounding incredibly appealing to her. "There has to be somewhere in Lawrence that delivers Mexican..." It was strange - even though she'd been living in Lawrence for almost eight months, she was still learning it. There were still places she hadn't been, take-outs she hadn't tried, streets she hadn't driven down. She had stuck to the people and places she knew, more or less. Perhaps it was time for her to be more adventurous.

"Oh god," Elena said, lifting her hand to cover her flushed face. "It sounds really bad when you say it like that." She had never meant to fall for Damon. She had fought so hard for Stefan. She'd just got a little distracted along the way. But she hadn't given in to it! She wasn't that person and she never wanted to be. She had chosen her principles over the raw attraction she'd felt towards Damon but, in the end, it had just been... right.

"Things were different when I became a vampire. The old me died in Matt's truck and, somehow, that allowed me to realise that Stefan and I just weren't going to work. I was trying to force it, out of loyalty, but in the end I was only hurting him, me, Damon. I couldn't carry on like that." Elena paused, frowning slightly. "Oh, and I was sired to Damon at that point, which probably complicated the matter..." She gave Jenna a sheepish smile, feeling another explanation coming on.

"I could go for that." Jenna said with a smile. It was at least something to look forward to, and if it helped with the hunger Jenna was all for it. It felt wrong, weird even, constantly wanting blood, thinking about blood as food. It was something that she just was struggling with and she almost lost her thoughts as she thought about blood but brought herself back to the take out thought. "It's a big enough city, there has to be something." She agreed.

"It just all sounds really complicated is all." Jenna said, and it did, but she did give a sympathetic smile at Elena's flushed face. It all sounded insanely complicated and she hated herself for not being there for Elena and Jeremy, not that she could do much she was dead and it was really hard to do anything for the people you loved when you were dead.

Frowning the wave of sorrow that washed over Jenna was almost too intense and she couldn't stop the couple of tears that fell as she thought about Elena drowning. That was terrifying to her, and while she knew Elena was a vampire now and alive as it were... It still just was terrifying to think about. Nodding she felt a rush of questions come over her but she had to focus on just one or two of them. "You were sired to him?" Jenna asked, she understood what it meant but what she didn't understand was all the ways sires worked in their world or the complications that went with them.

Elena pulled out her iPhone and unlocked it. She had a takeaway app downloaded - if they were going to find good food to order, that was probably a good place to start. She tapped in the details of the Boarding House and, after a moment of loading, the app returned the name of a Mexican restaurant nearby. "Got it," she told Jenna, tilting the screen of the phone to show her aunt the display. "What do you want? Nachos Deluxe? It comes with beef, chicken and beans, shredded lettuce, tomatoes and sour cream." Elena hadn't had Mexican in forever and reading the menu was making her mouth water. It was true - now she was a vampire she thought about food in a completely different way than she had when she was alive but it certainly didn't mean she didn't enjoy it any less. It just wasn't necessary, that was all.

"I can grab a couple of blood bags to go with it," she added, trying to sound as off-hand as possible. She knew it must be hard for Jenna, adapting to her new body and its new urges. She remembered how strange it had all been for her, especially with the anxiety caused by thinking she couldn't drink from blood bags. She wanted to make sure this process was as easy for Jenna as possible.

"Hey," Elena said quickly, noticing Jenna's tears. "Don't cry. It was complicated and awkward and dying sucked but none of that was your fault, okay?" She put her arms out and she shuffled closer to her aunt, pulling her into a hug which was all elbows and knees.

"Yeah," Elena sighed, her arms still tight around Jenna's shoulders. "It was like... I wanted to do what he said, I wanted him to be happy. I trusted him completely. It was because I was turned with his blood... because I felt for him when I was alive. It's really rare but it happens." Elena shuddered. It wasn't that she regretted being sired to Damon. He had made her feel so safe and loved and it had allowed her to open up about how she felt for him but it had also be a really difficult thing to deal with. Actually, no, it had been the way it had made Stefan feel that had been difficult to deal with. Elena had been sure that the sire bond had nothing to do with how she actually felt but seeing Stefan clinging to the hope that it was some kind of mistake, that she couldn't really be choosing his brother over him, had broken Elena's heart. They said that all was fair in love and war but none of that had felt fair at all, on any of them.

"Anyway, the sire bond broke when..." Elena trailed off. The sire bond had broken when Jeremy had died. Damon had told Elena to turn off her emotions and that had also broken the emotional link between them. However, Elena thought that bringing up Jeremy's death right now might not be the best thing for Jenna right now. "Well, I mean, we worked out how to break it and, when I was me again, no one could deny that what I felt for Damon was real. Even me. So here we are - highly dysfunctional but happy... and married." Elena lifted her left hand to look down at the novelty ring Damon had won her in Vegas. Her relationship with Damon had been rocky, to say the least, but she didn't regret it - not a single day.

"Right," Elena said decisively, changing the subject. "Enough about me. Let's talk about you. Seen much of Ric?"

Jenna took the bottle from Elena and took a rather large drink as she nodded to the Nachos Deluxe. "Extra cheese and guac too." She added trying to think about normal things, nachos were normal, very normal, the blood bags to go with it, well not so normal, and she knew she was a little tense when it came to getting used to that part of it. "Yeah, match made in heaven." Jenna said trying to keep with the not taking it too seriously or freaking out about it like she had a couple of times already as she got used to everything.

"Sorry! I just… I can't control it all yet." Jenna admitted feeling kind of like an idiot, but really she just couldn't help it, the urges, the emotions, it was all so much. She did however feel better getting a good hug from Elena, she didn't realize how much that would mean to her. She didn't try moving away as Elena started telling her about it, she felt bad that Elena had so much to explain to her, but she also understood that these conversations probably would happen a lot with everyone, given how much she missed out on by being dead.

"I guess it's good we don't all get sired to whoever turns us." That would be bad, but she was glad that she wasn't sired… no she couldn't handle even thinking about that. She wanted to ask more about how it was broken, but maybe focusing on the good was a better idea, anymore bad news and Jenna was pretty sure she might end up crying in corner like a total idiot and not put together at all. "I'm sorry I missed the wedding." She said actually meaning it as she looked down at the ring. "As long as he really does make you happy…" She said knowing that he did, but she was her niece, Jenna had every right to worry about her.

"Ric…" She said trailing off. "We're going to talk tomorrow I think. I told him I wanted to talk to you first, and he understood that. I don't even know where to start with things with him, he's clearly been through a lot more than I have, but I still love him, I guess I just have to make sure I keep myself in check around him."

"He does," Elena assured her, the smile still playing across her lips. Damon made her angry and frustrated and confused and determined and confident and happy, really, really happy.

"We're going to do it properly, some day," Elena said, looking at her ring again and twisting it a little with her thumb. "The wedding, I mean." Damon had been saying it since California, that they should renew their vows properly, in Lawrence, with the people they cared about. Elena wanted to as well. She just wanted to wait for the right time, that was all. The seal had thrown problem after problem at them since their wedding and it had never seemed like the right time to plan a wedding but she knew they'd get around to it eventually. For now, though, knowing that they were married was enough for her.

Elena let go of Jenna and leaned back against the sofa cushion again as her aunt took the subject-change bait. "Well, it's good that you're going to talk," she said earnestly. Ric had changed a lot since Jenna's death but he was still Ric. Even if things between them never went back to the way they were, talking was good. They were all stuck here together, after all.

"Just... don't feel you have to force it," she said quietly, reaching out to pick up her phone again. She was worried that Jenna would feel she had to try to pick up where she'd left off, the way Elena had tried to do with Stefan, and ignore any signs which suggested it wasn't right, for either of them. "I know he's changed but so have you and that's alright." Elena gave her aunt a warm smile, trying to make sure she knew she wasn't alone in all this.

"Besides," she added with a cheeky grin, swiping open her phone and returning to the take out order screen. "You're a kick ass, sexy vampire now. You could have any guy here if you wanted."

There was still a lot of trust that Damon needed to earn as far as Jenna was concerned because she still didn't really trust Damon given everything which she knew there was so much she didn't know, but given where she came from, she really couldn't help it all. Regardless she wanted to see Elena get married, it was selfish, but she really did want to see that. "Good, because I will be there." She said knowing that the veil might not allow that to happen, but if she was here she would do everything in her power to be there for Elena. She only wished Jeremy could be here too, and their parents. Jenna knew how much her sister would have loved seeing Elena get married and all the mother/daughter stuff. But, Jenna was not allowed to think about sad things because she knew it was dangerous given her level of sensitivity.

"Elena, if I manage to have a somewhat normal awkward conversation about the weather with him, I'll be happy." That was true too, even though she still completely loved him, but she knew he wasn't there anymore and it hurt like hell to think about, but she also knew that she wanted him in her life whatever that meant.

"I promise I wont push it, or force it. Above anything else, he's a part of your life too and I need to make sure that whatever is between us doesn't hinder any other relationships, especially the one that you and he have." Jenna said softly.

Laughing she rolled her eyes. "Kick ass sexy vampire, words I never thought would be describing either of us. Kick ass, yes. Sexy, yes." Good going Jenna...
