Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:kon-el/superboy, lois lane

Who:Lois and Kon
What:outside the medbay where he's been one too many times.
When:laaate night of connor being stabbed by a child.
Where:in the waiting area or something
Warnings:TBA

Connor was stabbed. His best friends blood was on his hands. If this went the way he was thinking it would, there was nothing for him to kill. That was the worst part, nothing for him to make it better with. Even if he could, Connor wouldn't want that. He knew in the back of his mind Connor wouldn't want him to lose grips on everything he'd been working on between Clark and Robin. Control. That was key, but it was damn hard. That didn't make it any easier knowing his best friend lie behind closed doors, and interfering wouldn't do any good. There were also the storms in Moscow, Kon was still soaking wet. Trailing water through the halls like he'd brought the storm back with him. He couldn't think straight to remember to use his powers and dry himself off, it just didn't matter. When Connor woke, and he would damnit-it wa back out in the storm. Into the wet world. He ran a hand through his dark hair, ringing water out of it at least the best he could.

He was conflicted. It was probably Henry that had done this to him, but that didn't make it better. That made it worse, knowing that he couldn't go hurt the thing that brought his friend to this point. Henry was practically family, and they didn't hurt family. Krypto padded about near by, Kon tried to make the dog stay in Moscow with Loki and the others, but he refused. Damn loyal creature..

Kon looked down at his hands still stained with Connor's blood and lowered them in defeat. This was how Lucifer worked. It wasn't going to be as simple as hit things and it goes away this time. He could feel it. Things were going to get hard, fast. He had to maintain a grip on reality and not let himself slip into what Luthor had always wanted for him. Not become a monster. It was easier said than done.

It had all become a gigantic mess so very quickly, and while Lois had experienced her fair share of things, had dealt with a father who was a General of War, coming down to find Kon looking at his hands stained with the blood of his best friend was throwing her for a loop. She wasn't sure what she was supposed to do in that moment, but she knew leaving him to deal with everything on his own was out of the question. She walked quickly over to the teenager and wrapped her arms around him in a tight hug.

Sometimes people needed contact, needed to know they weren't alone when everything else about the wold was spinning out of their control. And for someone like Kon who always had to be in control Lois could only imagine how hard everything was in that moment. "He'll be okay," she murmured, clutching tightly to him, running a soothing hand down his back. "We've got some of the best doctors and Rapunzel is coming, right? She's got that magical hair."

She paused, trying to even imagine what that was like outside of a movie screen. "I bet Connor will see it as a good thing--the fact he got healed by magical hair."

Okay. Not the time for jokes, but she was reaching for something to do to lift Kon's burden.

It wasn't as though he'd been the cause of Connor's pain, but he still felt a pang of responsibility for not getting there fast enough to prevent it in the first place. He hadn't seen the post go up until it was too late to really do much other than go and collect his friend. He'd been busy trying to help the victim's of Lucifer's latest global attack. Moscow would have been cool to see at some other time. But seeing all those displaced people really had put a damper on it.

When Lois hugged him at first he tensed. He tensed a lot. Touch hadn't been something he expected, or experienced a lot of lately. Since Allana had left not many bothered or tried, and he stopped pushing for it. But this was Lois. He knew her. She wasn't going to threaten him or hurt him. For a while he was just quiet as he let her talk and tried to regain his bearings on things.

Inside it felt like his mind simply wanted to tear itself apart from anger, every single warning bell was going off. But he knew Connor wouldn't have wanted that. It literally took every ounce of focus he had to keep himself together then. Finally he seemed able to hug her back and he just grit his teeth.

"Probably. He's weird like that.." Kon trailed off as he didn't even fight the embrace. "Gotta go back to Moscow soon. But I don't wanna leave."

"I'm sure the others can handle Moscow until you see him awake and joking with your own eyes and ears." Maybe that would mean a little more work for the others, but having Kon go back before he knew Connor was truly okay would most likely only have the teenager distracted. The last thing anyone needed to deal with was a distracted super in a disaster zone.

Lois didn't let go of him, if anything she held onto him just a little tighter. She wasn't sure what else to say though and let the silence stretch about between them. Part of her knew that sometimes the quiet was a good thing, but she absolutely hated it, needed it filled up or she felt like she was going insane. The words were still taking their time to come and she sighed, wondering just how much worse everything was going to become in the next few days, weeks...however long it was until the end.

"Want to talk about it?"

He was tired anyway, most of his time had been spent helping the victims of the storms that had been spreading. Keeping an eye on volcanos, and keeping up with Clark. But he wasn't Clark. He couldn't go on as long as he could, and that part frustrated him. The break was probably a good idea, but he didn't like the break being because Connor was injured. Connor had stayed beside him through all his batshit moments and he wanted to do the same, but his mind was torn in a million different directions.

Clinging to Lois seemed to be one of the few things keeping him grounded there. "About what?" The fact that he'd failed? No thanks. Or the fact that he wasn't even sure they could save everyone in Moscow? Or that anyone would even survive Lucifer for it to matter? He only clung to her a little more with a bit of a sulky expression-much like a kid who'd been scolded and chewed at his lower lip idly.

"Getting you wet." He commented off handedly and watched Krypto prance about the waiting room. Even the dog seemed on edge. "Theirs nothing to talk about, nothing I can do to fix this. I wasn't here and he got injured." Some friend he was.

Lois kept up the soothing motion against his back, remembering when her mother had done it to her all those years ago before she had died. It had helped calm her down and she hoped it helped Kon as well. She noted his expression and the lip chewing, the sulking was so typical of a teenager that she was at least grateful to see that much in him.

"I'll dry later." She took in the rest of what he said, not surprised he was blaming himself for Connor's situation. "You're fast, Kon, but no one expects you to be everywhere at once. Not even Clark can be." The scar on her shoulder where she'd been shot was proof enough that. "You do the best you can do with the time that you have. That's it. You got Connor back here before he could bleed out. Maybe you didn't stop the wound from happening, but you saved his life."

She glanced over at Krypto, not surprised at his behavior. Animals were good at picking up on tension, and considering he was a super dog that probably meant he was better at it than most. "Stop beating yourself up."

He was still struggling to find a balance between Kryptonian and human. Clark always said he was both and there was no shame in it, but being human scared him. Being human meant he had more room to fail. When he focused on being a clone, everything was easier. There were not nearly so many emotions clogging his brain making it nearly impossible to think as there were now. There were not nearly so many questions. He simply reacted however he saw fit. This time was different though. There were so many conflicting thoughts swirling in his head it was enough to make him feel temporarily dazed as he moved to rub his eyes free of it.

"I guess.." He said distantly and then backed away from her to look down at his hands. "If I'd seen it sooner I could have stopped him. Gone myself." But he'd been half way across the country where the wifi was unstable at best. Still he felt guilt. "Yeah.." That seemed to have lifted his spirits a little at least, but he still worried. Reaching over to a desk near by to finally grab some tissues he whipped his hands clean. Even that little act seemed to lighten his face all the more.

"Clark said he does it too sometimes." He gave her a faint smile even, he was trying to hold onto reality. He really was. "Hilary and Abby should be down here soon." He snickered some at the name, Hilary. He was never going to be able to look at gun loving Becker the same way again, and he refused to call him Becker anymore for his own amusement.
