After missing out on going to the movies the previous night, Allison was especially looking forward to going there tonight. Her, Scott, and popcorn in a dark room was a recipe for success. Even if you took away the popcorn and the movie it still sounded appealing. She’d tried to find excuses to be in his company for a while, now, but now that they were officially a couple once more it was easy to simply declare something ‘date night’ and just go with it. As they walked she turned her head to smile at him, linking her hand in his.

“Last night was nice,” She sighed quietly. “You were right. You’re absolutely great for chasing bad thoughts away.” Allison gave his hand a gentle squeeze. She wasn’t lying. In spite of still being haunted by nearly losing her life to Peter when he was a vampire, being near Scott always seemed to leave her feeling safer. She thought that he was wonderful in that way.

“Still, I could really use a funny movie.” She nodded with a smile. Movies were second to Scott when it came to the chasing away of bad thoughts, but they still worked for a short time. It was nice, she thought, to sit and watch a screen, effectively removing herself from her own world and placing her in another, and not in the creepy way that the Seal did. For a while, she’d be laughing and smiling and not thinking about the things that went bump in the night. She liked the idea of that.

She cleared her throat and swallowed, trying to get rid of the lump in her throat and better enable her to speak. Allison knew she couldn’t constantly rely on Scott to relay messages to Peter. Besides, if they really wanted to reassure Peter that she didn’t blame him or hold him responsible she would have to be the one conveying the message.

“It’s true.” She said in a slightly louder voice than the one she’d used to greet him. Allison focused on not touching her bandage or bringing it to any further attention. “I don’t blame you at all. I blame Jerry for obvious reasons. I blame myself for staying out after dark when there were vampires all around. You weren’t yourself.” She sighed a little. “Now you are, though. How are you adjusting?”

Allison seemed much braver, but kept her hand in Scott’s. He was her anchor, right then. He was keeping her from losing her bravery. She felt like she had to hold his hand or she’d turn into a trembling mess and she’d already embarrassed herself with meek behavior.

Even as Scott stepped closer, Peter was still inching back. He couldn't help it, wanting the distance as much for himself as out of respect for Allison. And he heard what they were saying, he did, but it didn't make him feel any better. If anything it brought on another little wave of guilt. Before Allison could even finish speaking he was shaking his head emphatically. "Don't," he whispered, far too quiet for human ears - though with Scott's abilities, no doubt he'd caught it at least. But there were some things he needed to say, despite how inadequate they were. Eyes still lowered, he tried to pick his voice up a little - his words were mainly for Allison.

"Don't do that. Blame yourself. Not your fault." He sighed, closing his eyes. His thoughts were such a mess anymore, conflicting and shifting and giving him just a constant headache. He remembered hurting her, remembered loving it then, and he hated it now. It was so fucking hard to reconcile the memories from that time with his human self. He tried to shove it back; he could wait until he'd retreated to his hiding place at Piffy's complex to fall apart again.

"I'm sorry," he said, miserable and quiet. "I didn't mean to..." he trailed off, the words hanging in the air. He couldn't say it. Awkwardly, he switched gears mid-apology. "Didn't mean to run into you two. I was just out for a walk." The words were feeble and it was pretty obvious that wasn't what he'd intended to say, though they were no less true.

Scott kept his hand in Allison's own. He wouldn't let go unless she did. He was okay with being her anchor. She was usually so strong on her own, but this was different. She needed him and he would be there for her.

He watched as Peter continued to inch back away from them. He wasn't quite sure why. Was he afraid Scott would do something? The thought caused him to frown slightly, but he didn't bother commenting on it. He was mostly just listening to the exchange between the other two.

"He's right, you know," Scott said, his attention turning to Allison for a moment, "You shouldn't blame yourself, but--" and he was look at Peter again. "you shouldn't either. It's...you never would have done anything like that if you were really yourself." The words he spoke were, in his eyes, true, but still sort of hard to say. The separation of the event and who Peter was then versus who he was now was sort of hard to keep in mind. But Scott was nothing less than the epitome of the good guy of a thousand second chances.

Allison simply nodded at the two insisting that she shouldn’t blame herself. She wasn’t going to disagree in a situation like this even if she did still blame herself for being reckless that night she was attacked. She was just glad that she didn’t have any blood relatives around to scold her for her mistakes. Allison could practically hear Kate, her father, Gerard, even her mother in her mind all reminding her of the stupid mistake that had almost cost her her life. At least Scott was around to try and convince her that she had nothing to blame herself for.

“It’s not the biggest city in the world,” Allison smiled faintly at Peter. “It won’t be the last time we run into each other.” She looked at her feet for just a moment before looking back up to Peter. Honestly, she didn’t really know what to say. She wanted to keep insisting that it wasn’t his fault, but imagined that the message would get old fast especially considering that he didn’t seem like he was about to believe it.

Objectively, Peter knew Scott was right. He would never have willingly hurt anyone like that. Memory was a tricky, bitchy mistress though, trying to sort out what was him and what was just the monster. And either way... it was still his own fault that he'd been turned.

He still hardly dared look at them, even though it was pretty clear at this point that neither of them were feeling at all aggressive towards him. He still couldn't fathom it. He'd seen some of the things people had talked about before, when he was still the monster. The anger and the hurt he'd caused wouldn't just go away. But no one had challenged or threatened him at all since. At least, not where he could see. But that didn't make interaction any easier.

He had to relearn how to do this though, because Allison was right; he would run into them again. All of the survivors, the people who'd been affected by what he'd become... there was no way he wouldn't run into them at some point or another, unless the Seal took them or him back. He knew there was no making things right again, no making it up to them. The least he could do was try to face them. He wasn't ready for it yet though. Many of them might not be either. "Still," he said softly, "I'm sorry. I... I don't want to make things any worse for you." He swayed a bit, uncertain if he should get out of their way or what.

Scott bit the inside of his cheek. This was just getting more and more awkward with every minute that ticked by. None of them really seemed to know what to say or do, here, and one of them needed to take control of the situation before they ended up standing on some side street forever. He wouldn't expect Allison to, and it was pretty obvious Peter wasn't in the right mind to do it either, so that responsibility was going to fall to him. Now, to figure out how to do that, exactly.

"She's right, and I mean, I don't think you're really making anything worse, you know?" He looked at Allison, as if to double-check that he was right in that thought. "It's not like you were seeking us out or something, and...you, you gotta face it, you know? Both of you." he looked between them, before looking at Peter again. "I mean, don't rush it, that'd just make it worse in the end, right? But...nobody can hide forever."

Scott was right and Allison knew it. Nobody could hide forever. While she was pretty collected and believed herself to be handling herself well, she was still a little shaky on the inside. She had to confront her fears stemming from that night. That didn’t mean confronting Peter. He wasn’t the monster he had been that night, but his human self. It would be meaningless and only stir up trouble. She had a feeling that the man couldn’t take much more guilt before he snapped from the weight of all of it. Instead, Allison knew she had to focus on smoothing out the troubles. Gently, not in a confrontational way.

“I have a feeling things are getting better from here on out.” She smiled tentatively, still not exactly a ray of sunshine. A brush with death was a brush with death. It would have taken a lot out of anyone. She sometimes had to remind herself that she was doing well to combat the feelings of shame and weakness, but generally she knew that she was doing better. It was apparent that Scott was doing better. Peter... Well, she could only hope the same for him.
