To say that Cosette was confused would be an understatement. Showing up in the future and in a completely different country were bad enough. Being alone, it was an almost familiar sensation that she couldn't quite place because she was always around her papa when she wasn't in the convent. But people here were helpful. Or well, Lois was. She was really the only person Cosette had met thus far beyond a couple of conversations on the device that allowed her to speak with others. She'd been told to try to just adjust to the fact that she was somewhere new, somewhere far from home and that she could get more answers once she wasn't surrounded by the confusion and had settled in even slightly. But not even six hours in and she was told that there was someone asking for her in the medbay. And for the life of her, Cosette couldn't think of anyone who would be asking for her beyond her father.
The girl, had she gotten a name? No... just that they apparently had known one another when they were younger, in the time where Cosette had no memory of, the time her mind had suppressed because of the pain and fear, the darkness, the reason she heard people mention a sort of melancholy about her even as she smiled brightly and found love in music and reading and nature. Still, the girl who was familiar in a way, she had given her a name, Marius. The only person she could think of who would be known as Marius was the young man from earlier. The one she hadn't gotten to know yet wanted to. To see if what she felt was real. To see if he had felt it, too. Was this her answer? If he was asking for her? Or was it someone else, someone she had yet to meet even if that made no sense.
There had been no time to really adjust, to make sense of things and she still did go down to the medbay. If she could help someone who was injured and asking for her even if she didn't know them, shouldn't she? And perhaps she could get answers from others while there. Upon entering the room, it was obvious to see where he was, and it was her nameless someone. But he was unconscious by that point and all Cosette could do was sit. She didn't know what to say to the brunette, or to the young man who eventually joined them, so Cosette simply sat and waited, fiddling with her skirt, her hair before getting up and asking for a bowl of water. Marius seemed slightly feverish and so with the bowl of water, Cosette worked on trying to bring his temperature down with a rag. It was something to do, it seemed needed and it kept her busy. It gave her focus.
She did that on and off throughout the day, watching the comings and goings of those in the medbay, the changing of shifts, Eponine, that was the name she picked up going to sleep, Enjolras, he looked familiar, she had seen him on the streets whenever she and Valjean went on their walks, not always, but enough. Keep your head down, don't get caught up in it. But she recognized him though didn't really know what to say. Either way, they both came and went in shifts of watching Marius. Sleep. Food. Work. She wasn't sure, but it wasn't as if Cosette had anywhere to really go beyond her room where she was alone and confused so staying in the medbay seemed to make a bit more sense. There would at least be one of them when Marius awoke. That much was certain.
