When: Tuesday, late evening
Where: Unknown (to her), on a sidewalk
Warnings: None.
Status: In Progress

"James, Emma." Oh God, Emma. Snow's heart skipped a beat when she felt the fine mist of the spell dissolve away from them, only instead of strong, comforting arms around her shoulders, she felt bare.

Alone.

Snow stumbled back a step, catching her heel on the curb and fell to the ground only to find herself staring out at an empty unfamiliar street.

"No," she whispered, chest seizing on the word. Her breathing was short and pained as she struggled back to her feet. This wasn't right. This couldn't be right. They had been so close, so close to everything being the way it should "No. No, this isn't fair."

Hadn't they suffered enough? Hadn't they all suffered more than enough for things to get better? Finally? Snow pressed her lips together until they hurt, hugging herself because there was no one else there to do it for her. No one. Snow once thought optimism was its own good luck. If you wanted something and believed in it hard enough, you could have it. Every fairy tale had a happy ending.

Except, apparently, hers.

It was with bitterness that she could acknowledge this time she got to keep her memories intact. But those memories weren't serving her well now. From the looks of things, nothing short of a miracle was going to help her here.

A miracle or a police station. There was only one way she was going to find out where she was, and that was to find someone who could tell her. She had to start small and then work her way up to the big picture. Whatever that big picture turned out to be.

"Excuse me?" That. Okay, fine. She hadn't actually given much thought about what kind of answer she had expected, but that certainly had not been it. Snow caught up to him in a rush, wrapping one arm around his shoulders and pulling him into her side.

"We're getting inside," she said, tone breezy to mask her alarm. "Let's hurry, shall we?"

Henry tried not to laugh at the urgency. Though, she did have a point. Especially if Death was wandering around and he didn't have extra amulet for her to wear just yet. There should be some in the house. "It's not far away now! I bet we could run there and make it in two minutes."

And it wouldn't cause them to look out of place. He usually did the last bit at a run, always excited to head back home to a place that Regina had never been and was full of happy memories. Well...besides Zee's disappearance. Not to mention the faster they got there the sooner they would see Emma and he couldn't wait for that reunion.

"Two minutes?" Snow looked up the street, wondering which house was Henry's. Two minutes wasn't far off, but it still felt unsafe to her. The world didn't appear to be on fire at the moment. Of course, appearances were often deceiving as well.

They might not be in Storybrooke, but some kind of mad, vengeful magic must be at work in this place and the sooner they were off the streets and less of a target, the better. "I bet we could make it there in one."

"Ready, set, GO."

And he was off, running toward the house at the end of the street, confident that she would be following him. It wouldn't surprise him if she was able to catch up and run pass him, not with all he'd read about Snow White in his book. He didn't think anything would be following them, but it never hurt to be a little extra careful right before hitting the gate. Once they were inside they were protected from all sorts of horrors, but even an inch before that and they were fair game to all of this world's evil.

It was all she needed. In fairness, she could have passed Henry at any point, especially once she gave up running in heels and paused only to get them off her feet so she could move faster, but it was safer following him than leading. Snow would always know where he was this way. Always.

The house-Mansion-Her baby and her grandson lived in a mansion. Good. Well, the mansion loomed over them as they ran up to the gate, Snow's hand resting on the metal as she gazed at it in wonder.

"This is it?" she asked, breathing a little rapid as she took it all in. She was doomed to being shocked today. She might as well get used to it.

Henry couldn't help but laugh as he pushed open the gate. "Wait until you see in the inside!" He practically hopped up the steps, flinging the door open. There was no doubt in his mind that Emma would be waiting for him and worried sick. Hopefully Mary Margaret's arrival would temper some of that worry. And who better to help with raising his eventual baby sister than his grandma?!

It was like Christmas had come early.

He held the door open and grinned, dropping his backpack off beside the door.

"Mom! You'll never guess who I found when I was coming home from the library!"
