Who: Kitty Pryde and Mike Chang
What: They need to talk.
When: After Mike's arrival and testing to be sure he's human.
Where: Secluded area around the back of camp.
Warnings: None yet?

There was way too much happening all at once. Kitty wasn't sure how this was all happening, all she knew was that people were back and they were really themselves. Mike was back, Elliot was back, and that was just scratching the surface. Mike was the big one that the diminutive mutant was focused on. It had been hard to deal with everything when he had died; Kitty had been really upset, but she had picked herself up and she had moved on. Now he was back, though. Mike was back, but this was a really cruel joke. He didn't remember her. He didn't know who she was. When Kitty had read that...it had hurt her. She hadn't been prepared to hear that. Just seeing that he'd posted on the communication board had caused her to feel all of her emotions from losing him hit her at once, but there'd been hope too.

If it weren't for Hardison Kitty might have taken off, but he was right. She needed to stay here and face this, she had to deal with it. It could be a new chance. She was still the same person and he had to be the person that he was.Maybe they could start over, but Kitty was trying not to get her hopes up. She didn't want to be let down completely. He'd mentioned Tina, which had to mean that she was still a part of his mind at the moment. As upsetting as it might be, Mike and Kitty might not get the chance to start over either. Either way they had to talk.

She wasn't going to back out, even though half of her wanted to. She showed up to the little secluded spot that she had told him she'd be at. She showed up early, even. Being early was not a great idea, though. It left her time to pace. Kitty couldn't seem to stand still. She hadn't been one for dancing in some time, but she did work out some and keep herself from forgetting anything. No one ever knew when they might need to defend themselves anymore. It was only through sheer will that she kept herself from fidgeting with her blue hoodie or anything else. Kitty finally managed to stop in one place and look around, waiting to see that familiar figure that had come back.

After the uncomfortable tests that the camp leaders had put him through, reminding him very much of the tests he took about a week ago for when he first arrived at the apartment complex - and wow, this really was some Terminator time logic - Mike had been given a quick little tour of the camp. It had consisted mainly of buildings being pointed out to him ("That's the main building, that's the communication centre, and this is where you'll sleep.") and a pat on the back ("Welcome back to life."), that left him feeling more like a fish out of water than ever before.

As if finding himself in middle of a zombie apocalypse that was nothing like Shaun of the Dead and much more like the Dawn of the Dead wasn't bad enough, he remembered he had an awkward conversation to look forward to. The thing was that he didn't even think that Kitty had been lying because Quinn had confirmed it for him. He had just hoped that she was lying because if she wasn't, he had some things to fix because his other self had died.

It wasn't hard to confuse Mike, so it was no surprise that his head hurt by the time he found the meeting place that Kitty had asked him to meet her at. Her back was to him when he entered the area and he considered, for a very brief moment, bolting from there and just avoiding her forever.

But Mike wasn't the kind of guy to do that, so he rubbed the back of his neck and called out.

"Uh. Hey?"

There was one thing that Kitty would probably notice immediately when she first saw him. It was that he looked young. Younger than when he had died because he wasn't the same guy, as if not having memories of the other him wasn't enough. There was baby fat that still clung to his cheeks that clearly painted him as a teenager and that hadn't been present on him when he had been shredded apart by the Croats last month.

Stuffing her hands into her pockets, Kitty stood there. She didn't know what to expect. Was he going to be the same person? Was he the same guy that she'd known? What if he was vastly different? Despite her worries, her feet were planted firmly in place. Kitty Pryde didn't run away, not unless she had to. This wasn't a situation where she had to, unfortunately.

Biting her bottom lip, Kitty was surprised when she heard a familiar voice from behind her. Automatically, the small woman spun around. What she saw was familiar and different at the same time. It wasn't the same mike that had died just last month. He was a younger Mike. It was more than a little bit of a shock. In fact, Kitty's jaw fell open from the surprise. ".....Hey." Her voice was quiet.

What the hell had happened? Kitty could barely believe her eyes. He was so young, it was strange to see. It was almost too hard for her to wrap her mind around, but she found herself moving closer to him. "Wow." Evidently Kitty couldn't form more than that for the moment. Lifting her hands, she rubbed her face a little bit before dropping them.

"You're younger." Kitty paused a moment before she continued, "I'm glad you made it here safe." Best to go with honesty for the moment. It was just so good to see him right now.

For some reason, it hadn't occurred to him that he was younger than the Mike Chang that these people. Until then, he hadn't really thought about what the Mike Chang of this world had been like before his death. Did he look the same? Did he have any battle scars? Was he capable of kicking zombie ass?

The tiny little fact that he had been five years older to these people had escaped him, until Kitty pointed it out.

"Yeah, I guess I would be," Mike said, giving her a half-grin as he pushed his hands into the pocket of the hoodie that had been loaned to him upon his arrival. Until then, he had been running around in pajama bottoms, a Superman t-shirt, and no shoes. Thankfully, he had shoes on now, as he kicked the ground and huffed out a laugh as he looked at her. "Sorry, this is just really weird." And the understatement of the century goes to...you, you idiot! His mind cheerfully informed him.

Shaking his head a little, he gestured to a wooden log. "Can we sit? If you don't mind, I have questions and I guess it might take awhile to sort it all out."

Honestly, Kitty had assumed he would look the same. She had never even deigned to think that he wouldn't look like the same Mike that she had been with. She never would have assumed he'd be younger. He was still Mike, though. He wasn't the Mike that died, though. He didn't have the same baggage that he carried around with him. He didn't have the same experiences that her Mike had. Kitty could remember how she and Mike had given dance lessons and how the two of them had worked together when they danced themselves.

Remembering didn't help anything right now. He wasn't her Mike.

His grin was just slightly infectious and drew the corners of Kitty's mouth up. Part of Kitty wished that she didn't feel like she knew this version of Mike, but she still felt like she did. Nodding a little bit, Kitty snorted. "Definitely weird. Even though you're obviously not--," Kitty cut herself off before she said her Mike, she even had to lick her lips before she continued, "Even though you're obviously not the same Mike exactly."

Looking at the wooden log, Kitty nodded. "Absolutely. You can ask me any question you want. And I've definitely got time." Kitty automatically moved to take a seat on the wooden log, watching Mike.

Mike didn't have the same memories or experiences that had shaped the other Mike into the guy that Kitty had known, but at his core, there were a few things about Mike Chang that would never change: he was loyal, he was honest, and he genuinely cared about people. He could have easily dismissed this situation as some sad affair that wasn't really his problem, but he hadn't.

It was neither of their faults that he wasn't the guy she might have wished he was, but he wasn't going to just let her suffer without talking it out.

"I might not be the same Mike, but I got the same killer smile, right?" He winked at the older girl, smiling widely to show off his perfectly straight teeth. This was what Mike did. He attempted to ease tense situations with jokes and that usually worked.

Killing the wattage on his smile, he started somewhat hesitantly, a turn from the confidence he had shown with his joke. "You mentioned we gave dance lessons together, right? Maybe you could start with how we met?" He shook his head as he sat down. "Or how you met the other me, I mean. Sorry, this is still a little confusing."

It was difficult to look at the younger version of her deceased boyfriend. Well, technically he wasn't deceased anymore, he was here, sort of. Underneath the fact that he was younger he was still that same person at his core. Kitty was still the same person that she had been for the most part. Some things about her had changed, but she was still the same Kitty that had been taken from her college and dropped in the middle of the apocalypse.

It was slightly disappointing that he wasn't the Mike she remembered, but it was great to see him again.

Laughing lightly, Kitty nodded, grinning wide. "Oh, definitely. You look the same in a lot of ways, there are just subtle differences." She informed him with a little nod, looking down at her feet a moment. He was somewhat similar to her Mike.

Running her tongue over her bottom lip, Kitty nodded at his first question to show that she was listening and that it was true. She waited for him to finish speaking before finally smiling a little. "It's okay, I get that it's confusing." Pausing, the short girl sucked in a breath of air before releasing it. "Honestly a lot of how we met had to do with dance. You were classically trained and I was too. " Kitty paused a smile pulling at her face. "We both were offering dance lessons because of our training and we ended up working together, kind of by fate, I guess. It just kind of happened. When we started working together...we hit it off, I suppose. We'd sort of talked before that but it was never anything all that in-depth, so it wasn't like we were complete strangers." Kitty shrugged, looking at Mike. "Next question?

"I told you about being trained?" He asked, eyebrows raised in surprise as he scratched his cheek and nodded to himself. "Huh. Guess that makes sense when you're dancing with someone. You wanna know what they are and are not capable of." Especially if you were the only thing stopping a person from getting a broken neck. Even if it logically made sense, it just surprised him that he had told her. Taking ballet as a child was something the guys at his school would have made fun of, but he realized that this was not Lima and no one was going to make fun of him for it.

Maybe Puck, but that was just Puck.

Thinking carefully over his next question because he didn't want to offend or upset her by asking, he finally came out with, "Were we dating for long before I died?" He wanted to believe that he had waited a long time before he let the thought of Tina go, but he had no way of knowing. Had it counted as cheating, if he never broke up with her? Was he guilty of cheatig, even though he had himself had done nothing with this girl besides him?

Mike wondered if amnesia patients ever felt like this.

Giving a light nod, Kitty grinned. "You told me about being trained. I was trained too, though. I was actually impressed that you were a trained dancer." Kitty told him, being honest. A grin pulled at her lips as he tacked on his own thoughts for the situation. "That's exactly it." Kitty was picky about dance partners. She could trust other people, but she was definitely the girl that didn't want to end up dropped on her head or her face. It was impressive to her when a guy could take dance, or even admit to it.

It wasn't going as badly as she had thought it would go, which was a good fact. Kitty had been afraid that it wouldn't be this easy to just sit and talk to Mike. Lucky her she was wrong.

Thinking about Mike's death was hard for her, though. Kitty had to pause a moment before she could answer his question. "You just died last month...it felt like longer than it was with everything going on. Almost a year, I think." It was a little bit difficult for Kitty to remember exactly how long it had been. So much happened all the time that time just felt differently anymore. Kitty didn't know why he wanted to know this, but she'd answer any question he had as best she could. "I really cared about you. You were a great person." Kitty tacked on, realizing that she was using the past tense.

She could only wonder what else he wanted to know.

"I'm sorry for your loss," he offered, deciding it was high time to steer the conversation away from the personal relationships of the other him. "I was just curious, I guess." Looking away with a cough, he asked, "So, how did the demons win? And why are there zombies? Someone mentioned a virus, but I thought this kind of thing only happened in the movies."

Back when he lived in Lima, before Matt moved away, he would joke around with his best friend about how he would be such a badass zombie kicking machine if World War Z happened, but he didn't think he would be able to do that. He was just a kid and contrary to the stereotypes, he didn't know any super secret ancient kung fu and didn't have any super powers.

It was blowing his mind that it was really happening. And not only that, he was stepping into a life that the future him had vacated only a month ago. It was a trip and he would ask who drugged him, if only he didn't already know he was not hallucinating.

Kitty nodded lightly at Mike's words, wetting her lips. "Thanks...." The word was mostly empty, and she wasn't sure that she really meant it at all. It was cruel, in Kitty's mind, to bring people back that were gone and not give them memories. It was cruel to bring people back younger. It was awful to know this was Mike, but not the one that she had known. "If you ever have any other questions....you can ask them." She let him know, clearing her throat, essentially clearing away all of her emotions. "There's a lot that goes into that. Long story short is that Sam said yes to Lucifer, yes that he'd be his vessel. Ever since then...it's gotten worse and worse." Kitty stretched her legs out and looked at him.

"As for the zombies...technically they're not zombies, but...close enough. The Croatoan virus was released. We're really all fighting to survive and everything. Lucifer definitely doesn't like us, though." Kitty shrugged, not wanting to ramble too much on the doom and gloom.

Nodding and feeling as uncomfortable as he did when he had first sat down, Mike gave a tight little nod and forced a smile. "I will." As hard as it was for him, he figured this was about a million times harder for Kitty. He might have just lost the only home he had when he had been brought to Kansas a week ago and then lost all hopes of beating the apocalypse over the course of the last day or so, but this girl had lost even more and his presence was just making it worse for her.

He felt responsible for it, somehow, but he had no idea how to make it up to her.

Nodding as she explained what had happened, even though it made less sense than he wished it had, he said, "Thanks, you know, for meeting with me and telling me all this. I know it must be hard and I'm really sorry about that."

It was hard for Kitty to think about all of this, she was willing to do it, though. She was willing to talk to Mike about whatever, mostly because she couldn't say no to him right now. Nodding lightly, Kitty honestly didn't know what to say. Part of her wanted to give him a hug, part of her wanted to tell him everything bothering her, part of her wanted to take off running, and part of her was sad. She was doing her best to not freak him out, though.

It wasn't his fault that all of this was happening. She didn't need to unleash everything pumping through her at him.

"You're welcome. And like I said, any questions I'll answer them if you want. It's not your fault, so you shouldn't worry about it." IT wasn't his fault and Kitty didn't want him to feel bad about any of this. It was hard, but she was stronger than she looked.

He had no intention of underestimating anyone in this new world because he had seen enough apocalyptic movies to know that everyone turns into a badass at the end, but he couldn't help but think Kitty looked fragile. It had everything to do with her small stature and his knowledge of who she was to the other, deader, him.

"If you need to, you know, talk about him or whatever, I can listen. If that's not super weird for you," he offered, fiddling with the strings of his hoodie as he avoided looking at her. He hadn't been all the great at talking to girls in Ohio and a week of this insanity hadn't changed that.

Kitty had always been stronger than she had looked. She had always been tiny, but within her small form there was not only a fighter, but a brain as well. When push came to shove, Kitty was someone that you could count on. She had been a superhero in her own world before she had been brought here. Of course she'd been part of a team, but she had always been dependable. It had only grown over time.

Blinking at his words, Kitty gave him a small smile. "That's sweet, it really is, Mike." Kitty couldn't help it. She, impulsively, turned toward him a little and gave him a half hug. It only took her a second to realize what she'd done and pull back, her cheeks getting a little pink. "Sorry."

He hadn't expected the hug. Mike could never be confused for a guy that could see this coming because he was as far from being fluent in girlspeak or actions. Maybe he should have, but he didn't so it wasn't a surprise when he tensed up at the unexpected hug.

Just as he was about to return the hug awkwardly, she pulled away and left his arm hanging mid-move. Aborting the move with a cough, he smiled and shrugged. "Don't worry about it. I didn't mind."

Kitty didn't want to make things too complicated for Mike. She didn't want to make it difficult for him to figure things out. She wasn't going to force him to be the person that she remembered. That didn't mean they couldn't be friends, though. She still shouldn't have hugged him.

Smiling a little bit, Kitty nodded. "Thanks for coming to talk to me. I do appreciate it. I'm not going to be talking to you about your....alternate self, though. I'm here if you need a friend or anything." She meant it, it was hard, but she meant it. That was the thing about her and Mike, they had become friends first. Kitty was always a good friend. Swallowing, Kitty stretched her legs out some, wishing that this weren't hard. Anything worth doing could sometimes be hard, though. "Did you get the grand tour of the camp already? Do you need anything"

"I'd like that. Friends is cool with me," he said, nodding and smiling a little more genuinely. He felt a huge pressure lift off his shoulders, as if her words had released him from the physical manifestation of his worries. For a crazy second there, he thought that maybe this girl would want more from him. He was gladly proven wrong.

Scratching his chin, he said, "No, I'm good. The gave me the tour before I came here. I know where I sleep and I know where I get food. I should be good." Until he finally acclimated and wanted to learn how to fight zombies. But he'd probably go find Puck to learn that. Standing, he offered her a hand up. "It was nice meeting you, Kitty."

Kitty just had to remind herself that friends was better than nothing. "Good. Because I'd rather have you as my friend than not around at all." The diminutive mutant was always an honest person like that, even after all of this time. She didn't want to force him into something that he wasn't open to. The future him had been over Tina, the person sitting next to her, hadn't been stuck in the apocalypse long. At least he was alive.

"Good, that means you're pretty much set." Kitty didn't figure that Mike would want to acclimate himself to fighting. She didn't fight unless she had to, but she knew how. Kitty took Mike's hand when he offered it, pulling herself up. "Thanks." Letting go of his hand, Kitty found herself looking up at Mike. "It was nice seeing you." She forced a light smile, even though it was hard she knew she had to be doing the right thing.

He felt bad for her, he really did, but his heart and mind still belonged to Tina Cohen-Chang. It didn't matter that it was likely that he would never see her again because he had yet to accept that and move on. Maybe, one day in the future, he could do it, but a week ago he was holding her and convinced that he was in love with her. You didn't move on from that instantly, no matter what.

Mike was just thankful that Kitty seemed to understand that. It didn't make him feel any less bad for her, but it was something.

Hesitating only a second, he gave her a small smile and clapped her shoulder. "Maybe we could start offering dance lessons together, yeah? Since it was obviously a winning combination." He had no real idea if that was true, but he hated seeing people sad and he would need something to do in this world. He was by no means trying to take over the other Mike Chang's role in this community, but if something worked, it was worth a shot.

Kitty would be okay eventually. Time was supposed to heal all, wasn't it? Besides, Kitty had good friends that were there for her. She also had plenty of things to keep her busy. She'd find ways to keep her from dwelling on this. It wasn't like anything had changed. Her Mike was dead, this was a different and younger Mike that didn't know her. She just had to remember that much, though Kitty wasn't sure that would make it any easier.

It wasn't hard for Kitty to understand Mike was in over his head with things here. It didn't help things, but she was aware. Sometimes logic and the brain...they didn't really help when it came to emotions or the heart.

Kitty gave a light smile and looked at him, feeling his hand on her shoulder. Sucking in a breath Kitty nodded, "I'd actually like that. Dancing can be therapeutic and helpful in a time like this. Definitely be good for me." Kitty joked a little bit, nodding. "I have to warn you, though. I'm pretty damn good." It was easier to try and make things light.

"Don't worry, I've been told I'm not half bad either," he joked, smiling down at her before tucking his hands into his hoodie. Scuffing the ground with his new (old) sneakers, he said, "Maybe we can start working together tomorrow? And see how it goes from there?"

He was actually looking forward to having something to keep his mind off what was going on here. Just because he had been told about the zombies and being on the losing side of the apocalypse and looked okay, didn't mean he wasn't freaking out over everything he was seeing and hearing.

It was all that he could do to not go hide under a bed and hope to wake up from this nightmare.

Dancing would be good, not just for Kitty, but for Mike as well.
