Who: Needy and Cal
What: Going out for chili cheese fries.
When: Evening, September 28th
Where: From the apartment lobby to a random restaurant.
Warnings: Uh. Probably language. I don't know what else there would be.

Needy hated to be the one to have to break it to Cal that he was apparently in some books, but he should probably know. Plus, was probably for the best if he heard it from her and not some random person that could show up at any point, having already read them before arriving there. She knew it sucked to have your life thrown out there for everyone to know when it really wasn't their business in the first place.

And no, she wasn't delusional. Or, well, maybe she was sometimes. But that wasn't anyone's business either. So what if she saw people that weren't there sometimes? She'd learned how to ignore it since it started happening, just like how she ignored the non-existent Colin as she walked down the stairs to meet Cal in the lobby. But she wasn't quite delusional enough to think that a heaping plate of fries was going to make everything all fine and dandy again.

When she saw he wasn't down there just yet she plopped down in one of the chairs to wait patiently.

"Yeah, I guess you've got a point there," Needy said, rolling her eyes a bit.

But it was about then that they rounded another corner and started past the bar they worked at. "Looks like another dead night at the bar," she said simply as she peeked in the windows, lifting one hand in a small wave to the bartender on duty. Yeah, they weren't going to be getting too many tips that night if it kept as dead in there as it was at that moment.

He huffed, shaking his head, "It's a good thing we make a regular salary or we'd all be on the breadline." There was an almost laugh that followed, sweeping a hand through his hair, "Which isn't even called that anymore, if it ever even was. Not that it matters, since we don't exist anyway and wouldn't be collecting unemployment to start with."

He also tossed a half-wave to the bartender, looking just as bored as they always did, "What's that guy's name anyway? Frank? Floyd? Mercutio?"

"Especially me. I don't get tips or anything. I mean, I get winnings from kicking people's asses at arm wrestling, but that isn't exactly part of my job description." Needy smiled.

But it took her a minute to remember the current bartender's name, even though she'd worked with him several times in the past. "Uh... I think it might be Evan? I don't know. I don't really pay him much attention when I work with him."

He nodded, "I'll have to remember to look at the schedule when I'm in next, might help me remember." He shrugged, "Might be good to know if he ever shows up missing or something, I don't know." This wasn't something he was hoping for of course, far from it, but he knew what happened to people around him, and more importantly, what seemed to happen to people around here with enough regularity to be unsettling.

"It would probably help if at least one of us was more social with people that aren't as used to the weird as we both are," Needy smirked a little at that, then shrugged with her free shoulder. "But, that's not really all that likely, is it?"

Yeah, Needy wasn't really the biggest fan of actually getting close to that many people. Sure, Cal was her best friend. And he treated her a hell of a lot better than Jennifer ever did (not that she ever realized just how horribly Jennifer treated her back when she was alive), and she had a couple of other friends here and there. But mostly she didn't want to end up getting really attached to very many people. Those people tended to end up dead around her, and that really sucked. Especially when she ended up witnessing it first hand or doing it herself most of the time.

Cal, for his part, just wasn't used to trusting anyone who wasn't Niko, though Robin was close and George was closer, and Promise... well, he trusted her to do what was best for Niko, so that counted.

He smiled at the statement, shrugging, "Never know, hell might freeze over, and as long as I'm not there to see it? I'm good." He shook his head then, "This is about as social as I get, and don't let anybody tell you otherwise."

"Well that's a shame," Needy started, turning to smirk up at Cal for a moment. "After all, I'm a huge partier. Didn't you realize that by now? And I just can't hang out with anti-social people." And if that wasn't a huge exaggeration, nothing was.

"Either way, at least we get along with each other. That's saying something, I guess." What it said, Needy wasn't sure. Of course, there was a lot that Needy didn't plan to say to him ever again, she wasn't really in control of herself the last time she'd said it, but that was neither here nor there. She really didn't plan on ever being anything more than friends with him.

He nodded at that, "Yeah, you're always in the middle of a party the same way I'm always helping out at the orphanage and the old folks home. Which you know I totally do, every day. Twice a day sometimes." He said this all with an utterly matter-of-fact tone, it wasn't deadpan, not really, it was almost completely earnest, which somehow made it even more funny than if he'd been deadpanning.

And yes, that did make Needy laugh. "Yep. You're just so hard for me to track down, dammit. I mean, I sure as hell never get to see you." Smiling, she pulled him around a corner when they got to it.

"The diner should be right down this road."

He nodded, smiling slowly, "Mmhmm, I can smell it." And he could, one of the few things he'd gotten from his father's side of the family that actually came in handy once in a while, fantastic sense of smell. Granted, it was often as much of a hindrance as it was a benefit, but right now? Totally a boon.

He shook his head a moment later, detaching himself from her side to tug the door open, holding it for her, "After you chief."

She could smell it, too, but Cal was sure to know that about her by then. "What, now I'm not just Lt. of Kicking Ass, I'm also your boss?" Needy teased. She didn't really think of herself as anyone's boss, let alone her best friend's. "Thanks though," she added as she walked through the door.

It didn't take long for her to spot an open booth in the diner, so she lead the way to it before plopping down in the seat facing the door. No, she didn't want anyone slipping in on them if she couldn't see them. Not that she expected anything like that, but it had become sort of habit.

He shrugged, "Somethin' like that, sure." Was all he had to say on the matter. There was a faint smile at where she sat, shrugging it off and settling himself almost across from her and almost beside her, where he could keep an eye on the front door and the door to the kitchen at the same time.

Observational skills were just one of the things he'd learned from Niko.

"Awesome. I have an underling now, I'm totally going to be keeping that in mind for any time want someone to do something for me. But I'm not paying you for shit," she grinned a bit, grabbing a menu from it's little holder. It wasn't so much that she was curious as to what they had, it was pretty damn obvious what it was she was after. It was more that she wanted to know how much chili cheese fries were going to cost her, even though that really didn't matter at all in the long run.

He laughed at that, that quiet, honest laugh that she was probably the only person who'd actually heard it, shaking his head, "Don't have to pay me, just as long as I get dental." A shrug, settling back in his chosen seat, "Otherwise I just might have to go and join the minon's union. They've got one of those, right?"

He also perused the menu, but really just to make sure they had chocolate shakes too. Nothing better for a plate of chili cheese fries than a chocolate shake as big as his head.

Needy was fully aware of how rare a real laugh from Cal was, so it always ended up making her smile in return. "Dental, huh?" she perked a brow, setting the menu aside before turning to look at her best friend. "Yeah, not so sure if I can swing that one. But hey, if you want to try going to a dentist with less than real records, then be my guest. I want to see how that would turn out for you."

And the next thing she knew, there was a waitress standing over their table. With a grin, Needy looked up at her to quickly ask for a vanilla coke and an order of the chili cheese fries.

Dear god, months later and she was finally getting them.

Cal ordered a plate of fries and 'the biggest chocolate shake you're legally allowed to sell me', which made the waitress smile and shake her head, jotting that down as 'bucket of chocolate shake'

Cal shrugged once she'd gone on her way, "Okay, fine, no dental, how about accident insurance?" Not that he was a particularly clumsy individual, but he was amused by the conversation as it was, so he was going to keep it up.

Once the waitress was gone Needy turned to Cal again, a grin on her face. "Please. Like I'd bother giving you any sort of insurance around here. We've got our own doctor, plus one guy that can heal you with a wave of his hand, plus a girl that has already healed you with her blood."

It didn't take long for their drinks to show up, and Needy was happy to slide her soda closer to herself and sip at it. "So, name something aside from insurance. I'll see what I can do."

He shrugged at that, "Okay, that's fair too." A head shake as he slurped at his shake, "And I don't know, what do regular employees usually have besides insurance? Retirement benefits? Pfft, like I need that." Granted, this was because he was figuring he'd be dead before retirement age, but he didn't figure he had to say so out loud, she probably knew it anyway.

Needy shrugged, smiling. "I have no idea. The bar is the first actual job that I've ever had. Babysitting in high school and middle school didn't exactly include benefits or anything." And that was the truth. She had sort of built-in benefits for a while there, when she was locked up, but that wasn't exactly the best thing to reference when it came to something like this.

He shrugged, "Guess I'll have to ask Niko sometime, since he's the one of us with an actual job, or Robin, since he's got employees." Then, remembering that neither of them were around, he fell silent again, shaking his head and gnawing at the straw in his shake, he had nothing else to say about it, really, so he diverted the conversation once more, "So even if the fries suck, the shake's pretty awesome."

It didn't take much for Needy to figure out what had probably made Cal suddenly go quiet. She bit her lip for a moment, shrugging a bit before speaking again. "Hey, you never know," she started, leaning back in her seat. "One of them could show up at any time. Or Promise or Georgie. And hey, you can officially never say that I don't listen when you talk." Otherwise, she wouldn't have remembered those names.

"Is it? Pass it here, let me try." she added with a bit of a grin.

He handed over the glass with, "Damn, going to have to step up my game, I don't remember a word of what you've told me." This was not, in fact, strictly true, it was only marginally close to true, he actually listened, and he even retained some things.

The shake was pretty awesome, actually, obviously quality ingredients.

Needy took a long sip from the glass once Cal slid it over to her. Partly because yeah, it was really good, partly just to be a jackass. Once she was done, however, she actually gave it back instead of keeping it for herself like she considered. "You're right, that is pretty good," she said with a smile.

But at his comment, Needy perked her brow. "Hey, you'd better listen to me when I talk to you. If I remember your shit you'd better at least listen to me when I talk." And with that, she added reaching over to shove him playfully in his shoulder. Obviously, she didn't go as far as to use all her strength, or even most of it, but it should be enough to have gotten her point across.

"Ow." He whined, rubbing his shoulder, mostly though he was trying not to laugh, "Kidding, jeeze." He shook his head then, "Okay, you caught me, I listen." Which was true, did he retain any of the information? Maybe. But that was his problem with everyone, even Niko.

He slid the glass across the tabletop from one hand to the other, "Think I'm finally going to get around to replacing my baby." He added, "Just as soon as I can find a place with something similar."

"Please. That didn't hurt, you big baby. I did not shove you hard enough for that," Needy said, chuckling as she rolled her eyes. "And good. You'd better be kidding about that."

But at the second part, she perked a brow. "And you know, I'm really hope you're talking about replacing your gun. Because if it was an actual baby, I wouldn't be helping you with that one at all. No way am I ever having kids," she smirked a bit, knowing full well that he was, in fact, talking about that gun. "Plus, that would have been a pretty major thing to leave out."
