Since the battle, anti-mutant sentiment has never been stronger. Project: Wideawake was deemed extremely important to the American public, immediately initialized in full force less than 6 months after the devastation. They created thousands of 20 foot tall robotic sentinels to apprehend mutants when they found it fitting. Many humans are against the mutants and quickly becoming unruly, prompting the Xavier Institute to take on more students than they honestly have the allotted space for. The world, let alone Bayville, knows their secret, and they make their disapproval known by protesting outside the gates of the manor. A disturbance to their lifestyle, but tolerable at best. Many in Bayville would rather see them leave their quiet city, and that is probably the most well aware fact in the city. Although mutants haven't been segregated from the schools, Xavier now offers to teach them within his home.

Principal Kelly is now the Mayor of Bayville, and has been for the past year or so. Next November, Kelly plans to run for governor, and seeks strict mutant laws in the state of Massachusetts. The Brotherhood are still alive and kicking, taking in many under their cause for mutant supremacy. They're the only thing that stands in the way of sentinels, risking their lives for their personal ambitions, trying to avoid slipping into mainstream human society as they want to be respected.

But things are different this time around, the government has issued mutants which they have under their control, planning to fight fire with fire when the time comes. These are the Prowlers, mutant enforcers of the MRD.

These are the darkest of times. Sentinels run amok the streets at night, the brotherhood taunts the masses with a faux "iron fist". Even the city they sought to call home doesn't want them. It is increasingly more difficult for a young mutant to have a normal life, and you could say they're just now realizing it. Troubles lie ahead, but there's nothing they can't do together.
